Dumbo's Last Day

Guess they changed thier plans at some point. I still don't understand why they closed the existing Dumbo early. Disney has already said that Dumbo would re-open with only one spinner initially, and since the expected opening date is Feb 17th, why not just keep the current one running until then?

My guess: Site prep. They probably want to get the spinner out of the way so they can really get going on the castle wall.

So, any word from the front? Did folks show up this morning with construction walls around the entire ride? Is it truly closed down? Work going on?

I thought the intent was to always keep one Dumbo open...

So, they'd open the new one and then take the old one down and relocate it. It makes sense to open it all at once though.

I disagree....from my memory, the plan was to take down the old Dumbo spinner sometime prior to the launch of Storybook Circus, transport it to the new spinner location, alongside a new Dumbo spinner...and launch both spinners in the new location when the area goes live.

I may be wrong, and someone correct me if I am...but my memory is rather strong on this and I don't think there was ever an intention of launching the double Dumbos in the new location, half-cocked.

This recent press release from Disney indicated that they would not open together:

"Guests will board Dumbo the Flying Elephant from the lovable critter’s left side — like mounting a horse … and unlike the way guests hop aboard for a whirl at Disney parks on three continents. It is scheduled to begin happening in early 2012 when select experiences in the Storybook Circus neighborhood of New Fantasyland debut just northeast of Mad Tea Party.

Also early 2012, the existing Dumbo attraction near Prince Charming Regal Carrousel will close, be refurbished and be moved to a location in Storybook Circus next to the new Dumbo attraction. The result when completed later in 2012: double Dumbos, one going this-a-way, one going that-a-way … a real circus act, if you will."

Quick question. I know that the old Dumbo area is not very large, but there would be enough space for something to go in. Has there been any mention as to what will be going on in that location now? I vote for another Dole Whip dispensary :p or a High end Coffee shop.

The new castle wall that will separate Fantasyland Forest from the existing area will go through there. Where Dumbo is now will essentially become the main entrance to Fantasyland Forest.

Fantasyland = ConstructionWall-Land

It's sad to see Dumbo leave its original spot behind the castle, but I can't wait to see the finished Dueling Dumbo's!

I wonder how many kids are going to be disappointed to see that Dumbo is closed on their vacation

My 4-year-old is going to be heartbroken. Every single night since we started planning this trip, she wants to talk about Disney World and every single night the only thing she tells me she wants to ride is Dumbo. :( I know she's gonna be upset, but I hope I can distract her with something else pretty quickly!

This "We can't close any attraction because it might upset someone" mentality is one of if not THE major reason why the resort is it such bad shape right now.

No
Yeah, and so is Space Mtn, BTM, Spash, the Castle, Pirates, Mansion, Peter Pan, etc etc etc

Things have to close for refurbishment. If it causes a "meltdown" pack up the brat on the next flight home.

Yea that's going to happen.. I just paid 3000 dollars for this vacation like hell I'm going to pack up and go home. Time to drag some kids.
