When Dumbo re-opens, we will now have a different over the wall view of construction....I mean we will get super close shots from the new dumbo of storybook circus & the mine train....I'm actually more excited about new shots from different angles....

That'd be funny if the ride broke down just so you could say, "He only had ONE more day until retirement!" And then proceed to weep uncontrollably over the immobile elephant.

LOL....that reminded me of one of my favorite Quotes by Jack Handy:
“One thing kids like is to be tricked. For instance, I was going to take my little nephew to Disneyland, but instead I drove him to an old burned-out warehouse. "Oh, no," I said. "Disneyland burned down." He cried and cried, but I think that deep down, he thought it was a pretty good joke. I started to drive over to the real Disneyland, but it was getting pretty late.”

My 4-year-old is going to be heartbroken. Every single night since we started planning this trip, she wants to talk about Disney World and every single night the only thing she tells me she wants to ride is Dumbo. :( I know she's gonna be upset, but I hope I can distract her with something else pretty quickly!

No need to worry too much, SbC should be open in mid to late Feb. So if you go in March, your daughter should be able to ride new dumbo!

This recent press release from Disney indicated that they would not open together:

"Guests will board Dumbo the Flying Elephant from the lovable critter’s left side — like mounting a horse … and unlike the way guests hop aboard for a whirl at Disney parks on three continents. It is scheduled to begin happening in early 2012 when select experiences in the Storybook Circus neighborhood of New Fantasyland debut just northeast of Mad Tea Party.

Also early 2012, the existing Dumbo attraction near Prince Charming Regal Carrousel will close, be refurbished and be moved to a location in Storybook Circus next to the new Dumbo attraction. The result when completed later in 2012: double Dumbos, one going this-a-way, one going that-a-way … a real circus act, if you will."

What you say may very well be the current condition/plan...

However, when the particulars about FLE were first being raised here, this was discussed...and all indicators supported the plan that double dumbos would launch together and that the original dumbo would go down first, be moved to the new location and launch with the rest of storybook circus.

Regardless, the fact that Dumbo went down today, as scheduled, supports the idea that they are going to try to move it into the new location prior to storybook circus opening up....

In the winter issue of Disney Files magazine they said that the new Dumbo would open "before" the original one closes, but personally it seems like a good sign to me that they closed today, because not only will it speed up the opening of the Story Book Circus area, but the sooner they move the original Dumbo, the sooner they can get that castle wall finished, which is the main entrance to the "Beauty and the Beast" and "Little Mermaid" attractions. So while it might be sad to have no Dumbo for a few months it should speed up the rest of the project.

I have been lurking on this board forever, but have never felt the need to actually post.
This quote by Jack Handy, however, is probably the funniest thing I have EVER read.
Thank you WorldKey for instigating my first post on this board.

The Winter 2011 Mickey Monitor also confirms them opening separately. As much as I would like to see them open together, and it could still happen, I think everything is pointing to them opening separately.

Welcome to the boards! Jack Handy is good stuff. Don't be shy, talking magic with strangers is my favorite escape in my day. It's good to be chatting with people who you know "get it". I half lurk and half post, nothing but good times here.

To remain on topic, yay Dumbo! I can't wait to check out the Storybook Circus in August!! But it's gotta be quite sad for those that are there for their first trip and have Dumbo down.

In tribute to the closing of the original Dumbo attraction location, I offer these two old pictures of the original Dumbo mechanism. The skyway is also featured in each of these shots.

Note the original roof on Pinocchio's Village Haus in both pictures. Also note the planter in the second picture.

Ohhh, I hope so!! Poor thing; I told them last night that I thought the Dumbo ride was gonna be down while we were there and my little one had a minor melt down. :(
