Wouldn't it be wild if they brought back splash with a completely replaced and wider flume so that they can run the two-seats per row logs? One can dream.

Nooooo! Don’t those go way slower throughout the ride including the drop? The pace is part of why I like DLs Splash Mountain so much.

I don't find the drops to be any less thrilling in FL's (gravity is gravity!) -- just the speed during the ride which only serves to better follow along with the show scenes (which are already more substantial than ours) and make the ride a little bit longer. No matter how you slice it, I feel like it's hard to argue against WDW having the better version!

I think anywhere in Seats 3-5 and you are pretty safe... from getting drenched at least. I had seen people complain about getting soaked on Splash but never could relate. Then finally I sat in the front on a day where it appeared the flume was much more full than usual (literally all the way to the top of the flume) and I got absolutely drenched. I think it had more to do with the flume being full because I’ve sat in front plenty of times and never got that drenched.

That's part of the beauty of Splash. The group you're riding with, and the current water level really influences how wet you get.

If someone doesn't want to get completely soaked and is in the front, I recommend lifting your feet up on all of the drops, and trying to keep them out of where the water goes. Has helped make it more bearable in the past.

Hahah. Well when I was a kid and I was going with a group that included a girl I liked I would really look forward to the Matterhorn.
That's one reason to like the news sleds.
You have to be careful with that kind of fun.

Way long ago I was on a group Disneyland trip and ran into a girl I'd known in college. We went for a few go-rounds on the Matterhorn for old time's sake. Of course, I had to hold onto her very tightly to make sure she was safe. (Technically, she started it by pushing back against me and locking her legs.) Anyway, we were riding the Tomorrowland side and we went through the part where the bobsled drops suddenly to go under the bridge. Her head flew backwards and clocked me on the chin. Hard. I saw stars for the rest of the ride down. I tried to shake off the glug-glugs before the ride was finished. "Oh, there's no problem. I'm fine. How's your head?" At least she didn't knock me out.

I can't help but note there are two very different opinions on the old Matterhorn seating arrangement: most dating age people think it was lots of fun, most married people seem less than thrilled with it.

This from MiceChat update regarding the World Of Disney kinda makes me nervous:

"It is said that the new store, when complete, will feel much more open and will not have the suspended character sculptures. The new window logos likely reflect the new vibe."

I'm picturing that bland mall store with no color or character.
I hope they're not doing to the World of Disney what they've been doing to Disney resort rooms over at WDW! Blech. But yeah, that makes me worry.

I'm willing to hold off judgment until we actually see what we're getting.
The fact that they (MC) can make huge assumptions that the "logos reflect the vibe" seems more like their attempt at sensationalizing.

I mean, I walk through the store and only find a small handful of things I'd be interested in buying, but it's still fun and a tradition on every trip nonetheless.

Same here. But part of the reason I like walking through is the fun decor, including all those 3D character sculptures. :(
Personally, I've always found it to be too chaotic to walk through the shop without a clear purpose of buying something.

It's like their crowd-level is permanently set at "one hour before closing on Christmas Eve".

Maybe they can save the craftsman character sculptures and repurpose them in a hippie grizzly peak store down the line. I'm not too sad about world of disney being a more neutral space. I think the resort went overboard with the california theme instead of the disney theme when they built it and it blurred the lines between the free downtown disney and the expensively ticketed dca. A more neutral downtown disney will also make for a more clear beginning of when the story/theme park worlds begin and really make bvs and main street pop.

Can't happen at Disneyland, unfortunately, unless the supports are completely rebuilt for the entire length of the track. The flume would not be able to support the extra weight of a double-wide log. You'd also have to re-figure things like turning radii for the curves, descent angles for the drops (especially the roller coaster drop before the Laughing Place), etc. It'd basically have to be an entirely new Splash Mountain to accommodate the bigger logs.

Fair point, but I guess I just don't understand what they're drawing as "vibe" from the look of the logo design.
The problem is the vague, milquetoast use of the word "vibe." It's a good word, sometimes. I think it's really effective in its most informal colloquial uses. In (shoddy) journalism, it's usually a lazy filler word that offers no information whatsoever.

Does anyone have an idea when the Main Street project is supposed to be complete? I'm visiting next week for March Break and it would be nice if some more of these walls were down.....

Those boring empty white stores were from when Children's Place owned Disney Store. When Disney bought the chain back, they quickly moved away from that bland design. The newer stores are honestly pretty cool, so hopefully this follows the design philosophy of those.
