Usually, it is an abbreviation that people use to refer to their son's when they are too lazy to type out "my son". Instead, they just refer to him as "DS". Or "DD" for daugher, DW for wife, etc. The other "D" refers to either "Dear" or "Disney".

Personally, it is a pet peeve of mine, but that's just me. By typing out "DS" instead of "my son", you're saving a whopping 3 characters...4 if you count the space. Especially annoying is when they include the child's age...as in DD14 to refer to a 14 year old daughter, or DS5, to refer to a 5 year old son. It makes it look like you're talking about a droid from Star Wars or something.

Most abbreviations used about Disney or generally on the forums can be found here:

http://www.wdwmagic.com/acronyms.htm

I have it bookmarked as a reference, though I rarely need it anymore.

sbkline, it may be a pet peeve of yours, but it's a reality of the internet, certainly not limited to these forums. People who choose to employ abbreviations are not "lazy", they're efficient. :p

I put ages with DS if I want to differentiate 1 from the other or if I'm referring to something that would make more sense if you understood the age of kid I'm referring to.

The only way I would know what the heck the other DS is is because both my boys have them and refer to them as their "DS". :)

I will admit, I still can't quite figure out what the abbreviation MILF is used for on a Disney board. What comes to mind is very un-Disney-like ((think of the movie 'American Pie')). Whenever I see it I have to stop myself from laughing. It's not in the list of abbreviations. I dunno. But it's funny to me...

And another thought: why do we refer to them as 'dear' hubby or sons or whatever. They aren't always so dear, ya know? I'd like to see BHH for butt-head hubby or something. LOL!

It refers to Monsters Inc Laugh Floor...at least I'm pretty sure that's what it is. It took me a while to figure out, but that's the only thing at WDW that I can think of that matches those initials.

And I'd better not tell my wife about all these hot women around here giving me hugs. Hubba Hubba baby! :D

I'm still having trouble figuring out why we don't just refer to them as "my husband", "my wife", "my 12 year old son" (if more than one son, or simply "my 12 year old") or "my son" (if the only son), etc. :animwink::p
