Ds?

I'm still having trouble figuring out why we don't just refer to them as "my husband", "my wife", "my 12 year old son" (if more than one son, or simply "my 12 year old") or "my son" (if the only son), etc. :animwink::p

I have no idea where the whole "dear" thing came from, but I've seen it on every online forum I've ever been on, not that I've been on that many.

Okay, when I saw MILF on here, I about died! Thanks for explaining that it is in reference to Monsters Inc and not "Stacy's Mom."

Personally, it is a pet peeve of mine, but that's just me. By typing out "DS" instead of "my son", you're saving a whopping 3 characters...4 if you count the space. Especially annoying is when they include the child's age...as in DD14 to refer to a 14 year old daughter, or DS5, to refer to a 5 year old son. It makes it look like you're talking about a droid from Star Wars or something.

It's not just you. :)

I have two daughters (and an ex-wife). I have never called them "DD" (or DD6 and DD9) in any post anywhere on any forum. Just a pet peeve of mine as well. Also DD are MY initials :)

And another thought: why do we refer to them as 'dear' hubby or sons or whatever. They aren't always so dear, ya know? I'd like to see BHH for butt-head hubby or something. LOL!

Ok, that's the first time in a long time that I've busted out laughing while reading a thread!:ROFLOL:So what can you come up with for my kids...

20QS - 20 Questions Son (he asks way too many questions!)
ASD - Always Screaming Daughter (if she doesn't get her way she screams, her brother makes her scream, if she's excited she screams, etc...)

Usually, it is an abbreviation that people use to refer to their son's when they are too lazy to type out "my son". Instead, they just refer to him as "DS". Or "DD" for daugher, DW for wife, etc. The other "D" refers to either "Dear" or "Disney".

I knew it! I knew it! I knew it wasn't just me! It drives me nuts too, especially text messaging abbreviations. I guess it bugs me so much because I view it as just one more way that the English language is being dumbed down. Pretty soon we're gonna have a generation that can't spell worth a flip but DANG...they sure will be efficient! Sorry Monty, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Oh and Steve, by the way...((HUGS)) :lookaroun

Haha I text message CONSTANTLY but I always spell out complete words/sentences. I hate using abbreviations unless necessary.
My only real pet peeve on here though is when people say "SM." That could be Space OR Splash Mountain. Just say Space or Splash, it's much easier. =)
