Of course, we all never really know what is going on til someone snaps a sneak picture of it, or gets an audio interview on a podcast or something similar.
However, I honestly think there is going to be quite an interesting debate over this whole thing. What about the people who have visited the park since 2001 and have found the attraction to be great as it is. What about the kids who may not have even been old enough to know Dream Finder? They will grow up, like we did, and will love the attraction just as we love the old version. However, Disney does seem to forget about us. The generation that grew up in the 80s and 90's.
Inserting characters now could potentially ruin what is there. The silliness of the new version has grown on me, and I always encourage newbies to go check that attraction out. I later tell them about the old version. I wish I had a DVD quality video that could present the old attraction to compare it. However, younger generations may even see the old version as outdated.
A solution we could all probably live with could be professional video ride throughs published by Disney on collector edition releases. I love what the Extinct Attractions Club has done with many of their presentations. However, I'm willing to bet that some seriously amazing footage does exist for every attraction. With binaural sound and work lighting, some great footage can be made possible. Isn't it a shame they don't just release these videos? Production, what is there to do really? They could make quite the margin off of a good series of this type.
If anything, they should consider a film showcase at the parks with a historical ride through of old attractions as a way of honoring an anniversary. Wouldn't a few theatre quality ride throughs do it for ya? Then the newer generations don't have their fun cut short early, and when it becomes time to update again, they will all feel our pain.
