Dreamfinder Returning??

Interesting rumor from Screamscape yesterday: rumor has it that Dreamfinder may return to a few of the show scenes in the current incarnation of JIYI as part of Epcot's 25th anniversary. Although it's not the return of the original version of the ride and pavillion, it would be a welcomed development.

The link is here: http://www.screamscape.com/html/wdw_-_epcot.htm

I know, it's only a rumor, and only Screamscape, but it does provide an obvious topic for fodder.

Yeah, but Screamscape says something about a 35th :hammer: anniversary celebration and Tapestry 3 too. Someone needs to either brush up on their math or park history.

Yes. Not corroborating anything. Who knows what may be coming (but a major IMAG update would be WONDERFUL). however, the dates are not necessarily wrong as HMGhost13 points out. I think the statement means an ANNOUNCEMENT for the 35th.

I hate rumors like this. 99.9% is telling me this is bogus, but the other.1% is wishing so much for Dreamfinder to come back, that it almost over powers the rest.

Yea, but I wouldn't expect this to happen.

2007=25th anniversary for epcot.

Oh, pardon me, I just assumed they meant Epcot, since it was in the Epcot Rumors section on Screamscape. If there is going to be a 35 year celebration of WDW, I think they should hurry and announce it soon.

Um, well I know the webmaster from Screamscape and he does have a whole bunch of sources. Some aren't always on spot but most of the time they are pretty reputable. I don't agree with this last rumor in ONE major way.

It doesn't make sense for Disney just to reinsert the Dreamfinder into a ride that no longer has room for him. My prediction is that he will return in the form of a meet and greet (the one that will replace the recently closed Figment's Place). If all goes well, then maybe in a couple of years we will see a major rehab of Imagination for a final redo to bring the Dreamfinder and Figment together again, and hopefully leave Eric Idle out of the equation...

Heading for the great escape.
DreamFinder and Figment mean very little to most park guests. If there are changes it willbe more to do with merchandising than any thing else.

I'd like to see Dreamfinder return in any fashion, whether it be in the ride (please get rid of Eric Idle) or in a meet and greet.

I really dont care about a meet and greet, I just really want him in the ride! Thanks for the rumor and the small speck of hope:sohappy:

Dreamfinder returning would be awesome. Why they changed the original ride is beyond me. They couldn't have left well enough alone?

From what I remember reading, wasn't it in the contract with Kodak that by 1999 or whatever year it was ruined that it had to be updated?

You are correct. Eisner- in an attempt to keep the sponsorship of Kodak alive and well, agreed to let Kodak pay for a new version of the pavilion. The ironic part about this is that after redoing the ride to keep the fans and Kodak... Kodak has slowly stepped out of the picture and left Disney to make the real choices when it comes to rides.

Of course, we all never really know what is going on til someone snaps a sneak picture of it, or gets an audio interview on a podcast or something similar.

However, I honestly think there is going to be quite an interesting debate over this whole thing. What about the people who have visited the park since 2001 and have found the attraction to be great as it is. What about the kids who may not have even been old enough to know Dream Finder? They will grow up, like we did, and will love the attraction just as we love the old version. However, Disney does seem to forget about us. The generation that grew up in the 80s and 90's.

Inserting characters now could potentially ruin what is there. The silliness of the new version has grown on me, and I always encourage newbies to go check that attraction out. I later tell them about the old version. I wish I had a DVD quality video that could present the old attraction to compare it. However, younger generations may even see the old version as outdated.

A solution we could all probably live with could be professional video ride throughs published by Disney on collector edition releases. I love what the Extinct Attractions Club has done with many of their presentations. However, I'm willing to bet that some seriously amazing footage does exist for every attraction. With binaural sound and work lighting, some great footage can be made possible. Isn't it a shame they don't just release these videos? Production, what is there to do really? They could make quite the margin off of a good series of this type.

If anything, they should consider a film showcase at the parks with a historical ride through of old attractions as a way of honoring an anniversary. Wouldn't a few theatre quality ride throughs do it for ya? Then the newer generations don't have their fun cut short early, and when it becomes time to update again, they will all feel our pain.

Figment has clearly been traumatized by Dreamfinder's capture at the hands of Eisner's dark minions. It's been almost 8 years, I say let Figment be reunited with his father again. And for that matter, give us Dreamseekers and the Sage of Time dammit!

I have always dreamed of the idea that Disney could honor its past by using archived footage and artifacts to create a museum on Disney property offering video ride-thru's and memorabilia to commemorate the past and to show that Disney cares for the future, but that is just me. I think that you are right when you say that Disney has forgotten us. The Figment campaign only brought back Figment, and I believe it was because Disney was getting negative attention for the whole issue. With the idea of the return of the Dreamfinder, very few are fighting for that. Which is why the ones who do fight have come together on our campaign to try to open their eyes. But I am going to be contacting Judy Estrin to find out more about many things going on at the parks, because she listened and was very helpful the last time we spoke. :)
