Downtown Disney Water Show?

I was just looking around on screamscape and found an intresting rumor. I know the whole screamscape deal, but I thought it was worth bringing here.

Screamscape:

Downtown Disney News - (2/27/10) Screamscape was sent an interesting rumor about a possible new attraction under consideration for Downtown Disney. From the sounds of things these plans are a long ways off from being given the green light, but Disney is apparently looking into the possibility of putting on some kind of show at night on the water behind West Side and Pleasure Island. Depending on where they put it, the view of the water here may be a limited, unless they opt to demolish a few of the waterside structures in Pleasure Island. I’ve also got to think that the huge Characters in Flight Balloon may very well cause a visual problem as well. As for the show itself… look for the usual suspects of water screens, fire, lights and more, in sync with music.

Maybe something like Fountains of Bellagio?

Or maybe this is where the WDW version of World of Color will go?

They'd likely wait until they see the audience reaction to World of Color at Disneyland Resort in a few months, but if the response is good and the show is a success, that DTD lagoon is a logical spot for World of Color at WDW.

This would be a VERY welcomed addition to DTD!!!! :sohappy: Hope this is the case too!

No way. The amount of water traffic - and tourists - would preculude any expensive infrastructure being placed underwater.

I echo what Martin said, plus that would be a huge draw that Disney would want to make some money from, meaning putting it at the currently free to get into Downtown Disney doesn't make sense. A night time water show would be cool, but it won't be WoC.

Yep. One of the reasons Noahs Ark was scrapped in Crescent Lake. A small fountain show would be feasilbe - especially with PIs north side being flattened - but nothing that you wouldn`t pay for somewhere else.

That would be a terriffic addition! As for the concern with water traffic and the fountains, perhaps the fountains could be on barges that are moved out every night sort of like ROE? I think TDS' BraviSEAmo show does this...

I don't see this being anything spectacular if it does happen.

Disney isn't going to make something amazing if people can see it for free.

I joked a long time ago that WoC should go there...

Only way I could see this happening if it was attached to a price.

I think there is a way to have it pay for itself without any sort of seperate ticket pricing etc. I think this is a real way Disney can plus DTD with something new and bold without causing problems with traffic, crowds or competing with the park's entertainment. Disney would have lot of variables and competing interests that would have to be considered. But it is possible.

I like this rumor. :)

I'll believe it when I see it. :)

This has been a rumor that has been floating around for years. I honestly can't see anything becoming of it. World of Color or anything that size would never be shown to a non paying audience.

Exactly, I'm certain nothing on that scale is being considered. Too many problems with cost, crowd control, and competing with third party interests to name three.

Idunno, I pretty much boycott downtown disney since PI closed...I used to go there to shop for a little before going to the clubs, and now that they're closed, I don't bother wasting a day (or even part of one) to go over there just to shop.
If they had a show there that was a high enough quality for me to feel like I couldn't see it elsewhere, I'd probably put effort into going to the area to see it, and then shopping while I'm there.
The balloon ride got me there...once...but it's not an experience I need to repeat any time soon. A free show probably would be.

It wouldn't need to be as elaborate as WoC, but it would need to be something better than a free stage show to make me feel like it was worth my time.

So, my point is...Disney could get my shopping dollars back if they gave me a reason to go there, and especially since I'm an AP holder, that's probably way more valuable to them than a park fee. They have to do something to give people a reason to go to the PI/West sections of DtD; it's looked like a ghost town most of the times I've been there over the past year.

It doesn't make any sense for TDO to put WoC- a massive show costing a lot of money- into a public place for basically anyone to see for free. Even on the off-chance it may bring more people to DtD to shop, the ends just don't justify the means.

I would believe a Bellagio type smaller show would come here. or perhaps even a Pixie Hollow type light/water show. Just nothing to big/radical for free.

In theory, at least, something even on the scale of World of Color could be done in or around Downtown Disney as a ticketed, extra-charge event. Neither Cirque nor Disneyquest (or the Balloon) are free - all require paid admission. Indeed, Pleasure Island once required admission onto the island, and offered (outdoors) nightly entertainment.

I am certainly not saying that Disney would do anything like this - I would regard anything more than a small scale "fountain" show (or something similar) as more than highly unlikely. I'm just saying a large scale ticketed show (like World of Color) would be an interesting concept for Downtown Disney.
