But for people staying on the grounds, with magical buses taking you to and from the airport, they don't have access to downtown Orlando.

Bongos is a restaurant, not a dance club.
House of Blues is a concert venue.
RR is irish music...uh, yea lets party!
Splitsville is a bowling alley, not a dance club.
Jellyrolls is good for hanging out, but you can't go dancing.

Does Rix Lounge at the Coronado Springs have dancing, or is it just lounge? Again, extremely difficult to get to unless you are staying at the Coronado. The TTS does not stay open late for people to get back to their other resorts.

Atlantic Dance Hall is the only option for dancing/drinks and that is a pain to get to and from other resorts.

I know Disney doesn't want another teen-scene with fights like a late-night mall that happened at PI, but there is nothing wrong with offering the 21-40 crowd that is staying on site a selection of nightlife offerings. There is a way to make DTD or the Boardwalk work, they just need to figure it out. Better late night busing to the Boardwalk and DTD would help.

That I highlighted in red already exists at DTD. From Bongos to HoB to RR to the soon to open Splitsville. I am all for more of these venues on a small scale. All sorts of such experiences can be tucked in here and there and each can appeal to different tastes in music and atmosphere. What DTD does not need is a repeat of is the traditional club scene. Disney should stay with what they know. And let downtown Orlando thrive by not competing directly with it.

And while there at it they should reopen the Adv. Club.

IMO.

JT, I guess I have to agree with you.....to a point. As another poster mentioned I also dont think these examples quite fit the need. I think DTD would have little or no impact on downtown Orlando, If Disney only stuck with what they knew I dont think they would offer other entertainment that isnt a theme park,,,,ie golf, an entire sports complex etc. Disney/ESPN has operated resturant clubs for years. As others have mentioned they still operate lounges and other drinking establishments on property. I also think that if they did build a small nightclub area that it would be exclusive to WDW guest. A perk so to speak. I think that would curtail some of the problems that PI had LATER in its exsistence. As far as adv. club is concerned I am one of its biggest proponents but unfotunately I dont see it in the cards. I will always hold hope for its return. BTW the fact that it has basically been stripped dosnt automatically dismiss a possible return. Stranger things have happened at WDW....just sayin'

DTD circa early 00s = win
TDO circa early 00s - "get 3rd parties to pay"
TDO mid 00s + remove entry control = bad news
TDO mid late 00s - PI is too rough. We need to close it.
PI late 00s - closed
= TDO oops...

Idiots.

DTD was actually a place unique to Disney. We actually have better and cheaper places now in the UK, let alone elsewhere in Orlando and Florida.

We do not disagree. I just am of the opinion a dance club is a bad fit for DTD. BTW Bongos has dancing.

I like the idea a lot of a dance club exclusive to WDW guests. However locating it at DTD is not the ideal IMO. Perhaps if they add a hotel down the line where it could be located away from the mixed use areas it might work. Or at the boardwalk.

They they need to redo disney quest something similar to flynns arcade with old eighties games along with newer contemporary games all with daft punk music playing.

Its a classic, "lets see if we can stonewall this thing long enough here until it becomes someone elses problem". They love to rotate bald tires within TDO management. Except Phil. Hes intent on staying until he can become 999.

Yeah, I always wonder why that is (seriously). Every other park VP gets rotated around every couple years (or less) but Phil has been around, gradually destroying the MK for 10+ years. Wonder why.

DTD has no parking to begin with... now taking away more. (If this plan was to pass.)

Anyway I think DTD needs something done and I hope for sure they do it.
Off Topic: Anyone know the next DVC after Grand Floridian. - Roll Eyes-

There is plenty of parking at DTD. They just never use it.

You know, everyone talks about bringing back Pleasure Island, but fail to realize that towards the end it was empty. They stopped charging to try and drum up business, but that did nothing.

Personally I think the word "expansion" here is being used loosely. One can expand more than size. I'm thinking they are expanding their vision of what it could be or maybe expanding the attraction/appeal of the area etc. That said however, much as I know lots of folks are hoping for some more clubs/bars/lounges/etc., I think the fact that they shut down and totally gutted all of the more "adult" locations looks more toward a future for the area that isn't in that vain. I think we're probably going to see more "family friendly" versions of places like that... things like Splitsville where the lines are maybe a little more blurred.

You would think with the success of the DCA combination of evening entertainment, booze, dance club, and Disney 'excess' all over the place = hand over fist money making... they would look at PI and go 'hrm, why can't we do that??'

Bring back the evening entertainment... bring back the club mix in... bring in some attractive theme.. and let adults have some fun. They don't even need to run it 7 nights a week. Run it 3-4 nights. Bring back the evening fireworks.. bring in the water show... bring in an overlay (like electronica, Mad T, etc)... and make DTD a evening destination. Dinner, entertainment, dancing and drinking. It would work as a 6pm-1am dinner -> drunk cycle.

Agreed, it seems like such a simple recipe for success. For all they've done out in DCA with the T-Party/ElecTronica/Glowfest you would think they could put something like this together at DtD in Florida.

It really would take minimal investment to even just try it out temporarily if they were afraid of investing (which they are).

Approaching the 4 year anniversary of the clubs closing. And we have some extraordinarily vague news about internal talk referring to DTD "expansion". Sweet. A team of poorly trained Orangutans would have accomplished this faster.

I don't think the Orangutans would require any training to outperform Disney on this one. They fling poo by instinct.

It is clear that DTD could be improved in some ways but even in it's current state it seems to be doing very well. I was there last week and went to DTD on a few different nights and the place was packed with people. While it is far from perfect, they are doing something right to be as busy as they are every night.

I would love to see a new theater built at DTD where they could perform the Disney musicals that currently are not on Broadway, such as Aida, Tarzan or Little Mermaid. Also a theater where you can actually see vintage Disney movies. Seeing them in my own home on tv is one thing, but on a big screen would be spectacular. Also, a really nice 1930's or 1940's jazz club, themed around Jessica Rabbit. And last a family oriented dinner/stage show of the Mickey Mouse Club. And maybe a TRON dance club, for those younger than myself, lol.

You are aware there are three distinct areas to DTD right? Westside, Pleasure Island, and Marketplace.
