Downtown Disney rumor

It was hard to find third party vendors and that was one of the reasons Hyperion Wharf was killed right? So if this is real, let us say, has Disney learned anything...

Also the name sounds like the name Disney would give to a retirement home...

There are quite a few shops that Disney could run themselves, that I would expect to be able to find in WDW somewhere (more likely DHS for most of them, but they would work in DTD).

DVD Shop - Disney Films/Disney TV/ABC TV/The Great Movie Ride Films
CD Shop - Disney Parks/Disney Channel/Hollywood Records/Soundtracks/American Idol
Videogame Shop - a demo for each console, and eventually a section for Disney Infinity
Muppet Whatnot Workshop
ABC - ABCs website sells various products online - why not have them available in a physical store?
Comic Book Store - Marvel/Disney/Castle

Now, they could either be separate stores, combined (CD/DVD/ABC could work like Summer Sands/Team Mickey used to do), or be a separate section in current shops (move the videogames from Once Upon A Toy to DisneyQuest, move Muppet Whatnot Workshop into Once Upon A Toy)

Now, are these big, bold, new ideas? No.
Does it sell specialised/not available everywhere else in WDW Disney Merchandise? Yes!

No. Hyperion Wharf was aborted because they decided that they could go much bigger and deliver a better DTD.

What is considered much bigger? More retail? More clubs? Shows of some kind? I'm really wondering, since I didn't think the Springs rumor was much bigger, but I may have missed something. Or is just supposed to be the opening salvo in a multi-tiered expansion that will be spread out over several phases? If so, I'm not holding my breath for the "next phase". Out of curiosity, do the powers that be consider the closing of PI a good move?

Hyperion Wharf was concentrated in the area of Pleasure Island, and nowhere else. The new DTD development changes roads, parking, expands the space into the former parking lots, adds space in the Marketplace, and re-themes West Side and Marketplace. So the new project is MUCH bigger in scope.

I see the thinking now. Yes, in area it is much bigger. I am excited about the additional parking and the proposed road changes. I wonder if the expansion/changes to West Side and Marketplace could've been done and then HW....HW seemed like a good idea....this is also a good idea, but doesn't seem quite as cool. Regardless, we've driven down a few times and they have to make some infrastructure changes. I've decided that if the family wants to drive over to DTD, I'm going to fake "stomach flu".

Muppet Whatnot should be at Studios near Muppets.

Yeah, as I said, most of the shops that I listed should be at DHS (possibly all of them except the videogame shop would fit), but it doesn't look like Disney are planning on doing any of that (even though I thought that Muppet Whatnot Workshop was announced for DHS years ago), and if they would have empty stores, they could fill them with these even temporarily to see how well they did, before moving them/expanding them where they should be.

I'm still completely at a lack of understanding as to how The Adventurer's Club couldn't work as restaurant/bar. With the rumored plans, it seems like it would be a perfect fit. And wow, what a draw it would be! Rainforest and T-Rex would be in for some serious competition (if it were done right).
It would fit perfectly, if only Disney wanted to do it. Which, apparently, they don't.

The building (contrary to what has been said here by certain individuals) will remain, though somewhat altered, and be occupied by an "operating partner."

Not sure why it needs a train locomotive sticking through a wall, though...

Don't give up on nightlife within the new DTD.
Agreed.

This info is very much accurate.. In fact, this is what I've seen that I expected to be public some time ago.. First off, keep in mind that this is phase I, of a grander overhaul including the end of the property towards Cirque.. and that it will take 'some time' to complete..

but..well....there it is.

Interesting plans and certainly much more ambitious than just a retheme of Pleasure Island. The success depends on what will be occupying all this new space, so I look forward to hearing about that in the months ahead.

The one thing I'd still like to see is a theater for either a permanent Broadway style show or for traveling Broadway shows. I think it would be great for both locals and visitors alike.

There's a reason why the Virgin Megastore closed....CD's and DVD's are not a good investment since everything is now digital, or soon to be...

I love the idea of disney changing. Springs name would give Saratoga springs a problem.
1. Need a bridge from Saratoga near present golf bridge. We use this to run in the mornings when we stay at Saratoga or old key
2 put a different transportation from old key and Saratoga ie. a train or trolley car like cal adventure
3 parking garage is great. I never drive car to downtown if I can ovoid
4 need new different restaurants
5 open up pleasure island again but include more places for family
6 give free tickets again for ticket add ons to clubs
7 make a new disney quest and place in there
