Downtown Disney rumor

I'd love to see a grand arched wooden bridge on the west side of the lake from the SSR to near Cirque. That would be nice and provide infrastructure for expansion west of HoB.

FYI, there is a bridge to get you from West Side to SSR, but it doesn't go to Congress Park. There's a path at the north end of the West Side parking lot up to the bridge that brings you over to the back of the front desk/restaurant complex.

Looking for something that creates an architectural statement while joining and defining the SSR/DTD complex. Also, by doing so they would make SSR a much more marketable resort. The timeshares would sell themselves.

Thanks for the info though.

Haven't been on here much because most of the posts on here are negative. DTD is still being rehashed but I have no clue when it will "spring" to life. ;)

Do you think it's possible that George and Keith could announce this master plan at the "Around the World" presentation media event in March/April?

See I like CIty Walk. Obviously Universal Orlando is a much different beast than Disney World, considering it's a much more urban themepark with centralized parking, two parks within walking distance, and a retail area between.

Now the case could be made that Downtown Disney (land) is a copy of City Walk ;).

Both of them however aren't quite big enough, and get a little too crowded to make it a fully enjoyable experience.

Here's what I like about Citywalk though that I hope DIsney Springs (ugh, let's just keep Downtown Disney!):
  • A place for grownups to let loose. I'm sure Walt himself enjoyed some whisky after a long day. Places like the Adventurers club are awesome. Citywalk has a great system for it, the upper level is 21+ at night, and separate from the rest of the district.
  • Massive Parking Garages. We all know downtown disney parking is awful..especially the closer to Marketplace you get. This alone is going to be awesome.
  • Great restaurants. DD currently has some good dinning, but nothing that really stands out at me. Rainforest Cafe is something I was good doing....once.
Personally, if I was an imagineer (ah, one day maybe.. ), I think "The Landing" area (PI waterfront) would be an awesome place for a Paradise Pier / Old Fashion Amusement Park. Wooden Coasters, carnival games, indoor skydiving, dave & busters, something similar to The Great Wheel going up on I-Drive, and some more putt-putt. Make a true entertainment district. As I'm sure you all know, I-Drive is under going a MAJOR upgrade, with a new entertainment venue opening by point Orlando, fun spot expansion, upgraded landscaping to remove "ghetto" I-Drive between Universal Blvd and the Outlets, oh and Festival Bay is getting leveled and redone. I think Disney has a great opportunity with this redevelopment to capture the "Adventure" crowd that may spend one day away from the parks.

Anyways, should be interesting to see how this plays out! I guess the existing surface parking lots left behind are rooms for future expansion?

I'm with you, I really like CityWalk- we always have a great time there. Great food and MUSIC at Bob Marley's, Pat O'Brien's, Rising Star, Margaritaville . . . always a good time.
There is nothing for me at DTD anymore, except maybe House of Blues, and I'm not seeing anything in these "new" plans to bring me back either.
