Downtown Disney rumor

This is about 90% accurate. The plans are now finalised so we should be getting an official announcements within the next month or so.

I understand that this time they have a full roster of vendors taking up all this dining and retail space. There were apparently not a shortage of applicants and DIsney were able to pick and choose the best.

Sounds good, at least it's something.

What would stop me from parking at DTD, running in and buying a drink (thereby getting my parking ticket validated) then jumping on the bus to the Magic Kingdom?
Restrictions and limitations. Validation could only be offered with certain purchases or purchases over a certain dollar amount. They could also only take off several hours worth of parking if there is a scale of fees.

At Orlando's CityWalk, everyone has to pay to park there during the day since it's the same parking garage used for the theme parks.

From 6pm-10pm, Florida residents park for free while non-residents are charged $4 per car.

After 10pm, everyone parks for free.
And that could be another potential model for Disney to follow.

Sadly that is very, very true. Truly a terrible marketing strategy that shows management does not understand their product. Not to mention is makes me look bad personally and makes people think I'm a man-child.

Either way, if they were to bring back the adult edge to the PI area then this expansion would be perfect for it. The more plentiful and closer parking would be available to people going to PI. The expansion would also be able to divert families with kids from the market place to the West Side around PI and keep the kids from seeing adult sights.

Disney did a nice job creating adult-only sections on the new Dream and Fantasy. It shows that someone there gets it. The only downside (if you can call it that) would be that the only path from the adult only areas to the transportation would go through the other areas.

As for the buses, I don't think it will take long for the room key RFID's to be required to ride transportation from DTD.

And the guy just placed in charge of DTD was the head of Disney Cruise Lines. He does get it.
As for getting to and from an adult section, keep in mind that most adults headed out for a night on the town would be going there around 10 PM which is when most shoppers are headed home. And adults headed home after that night on the town would be concluding their evenings between midnight and 2 AM when the shoppers are long gone. So there is very little mixing between the two groups.

Well that would suck... I love hoping around resorts by taking the bus

Not really. I don't know why, but people (including tourists) in Orlando have a strong aversion to parking garages. .....

In order to force parking at Westside, and to alleviate future parking problems at Marketplace, the garage should be built in the Marketplace parking lot. People that want to visit Marketplace will then have to make a choice, park in a lot and walk from Westside or use the new, themed, spacious, audio-enhanced, closer, parking garage at Marketplace. Capacity may eventually force a garage at Westside, but it is illogical to start there, particularly when nobody likes parking there in the first place. Now, with the garage construction, and even after, the competition for parking spaces in Marketplace will be dangerously insane.

While on the subject of DTD rehabs, why don't they offer a mini-WOC or similar watershow, besides them cheaping out on offering entertainment?

Many guests get free parking as part of their AP or Resort package. They could continue to park for free. This would cut down on people who park for free at DTD and then bus to the parks.

Because the parks are where things like that go. if any money at WDW is being spent on nighttime shows it needs to be done where it counts - and that would be upgrading RoE and/or Fant.
That was part of an earlier plan, a WoC type show in a new body of water in the current parking lot.
Cut, I believe, when the plan changed...again.

Looks interesting. Not too fond of the name "Disney Springs;" I actually quite like the Downtown Disney name, but I'm sure this is an effort to tie it into the hotel next door. I'm a little skeptical as to how Disney intends to accomplish this, as I don't see how parking lots can be built over with new tenants when they seem to have trouble filling the sites they have. It also seems suspiciously ambitious for what we've seen WDW capable of recently, but here's hoping regardless.

With this layout, they could potentially turn "The Landing" back into an adults-only area.

One of the first thoughts I had when I saw this was that if the "Town Center" concept had been created back when West Side was added, Pleasure Island would probably still be around. Let's hope they have some nightlife planned somewhere.

They charge for parking at Downtown Disney in Anaheim and both CityWalks. The parking could be on a time scale and free for a few hours and/or there could validation provided with purchases. A benefit of charged parking, which at its max would match the parks, is the return of direct transportation to the theme parks.

I'd like to see this as well. Perhaps have a model where the first two hours are free, and it becomes $15 for the day after that. Receipts from that day's visit can be deducted from your fee at the exit (and so if someone bought a $5 drink before leaving, it would only bring it down to $10, to prevent scenarios like Unkadug's above). Anything to allow transport directly from the parks, which is currently a horrible inconvenience for car-less guests.

I hope the 10% that is not accurate pertains to the names. The Downtown Disney name was brilliant, immediately telling you what it was. Disney Springs wouldn't be a bad name for a new resort but for a major shopping area, it's boring. And where the name Pleasure Island brought inspiration of a fun time to come, The Landing does nothing of the sort.

My impression is that they didn't seem to find one large scale cohesive theme so they broke it up into smaller, maybe for them, more managable parts.

Does PH know it is on the way out? lol!
