Downtown Disney Reopens July 9th - Tracking The Changes & Closures

With things so dire in the Resort area , you would think the non-Disney owned hotels would be dropping their prices to try to attract potential travelers like moi.
I'm still interested in coming back to Anaheim for more adventures, apocolypse or not, this Autumn if things pan out.

I've been browsing on and off for the last couple of months and everything is still the typical rates.
And I'm looking at off-season too...but nothing has changed price wise.

I think that's due to their sloppy algorithms. There isn't a single hotel in the Resort District that is currently open. There was a brief hope that Disneyland would reopen on July 17th and the summer would be saved, but that didn't happen.

The major hotels are just bumping along with booking software and algorithms that can't keep up with the current situation. For instance, it's possible to go on the Bonvoy.com site tonight and book a long stay in mid July at the brand new JW Marriott. Except that hotel has not actually opened yet, has no known opening date, and even after Disneyland announces a reopening date in August there won't be enough demand to reopen swanky new 4 Star hotels like the JW Marriott for months to come.

But the Marriott software can't deal with all those bizarre variables, so it will let you book a room for $350 a night pre-paid for a a week from now. 🤣

I’m actually new to the area, so I’d love to hear your recommendations!

If you go just further afield, downtown Orange has some great places to eat and drink, especially if you are in the younger age brackets...

The Haven
Watson's (for weekend brunch and their eggs benedict)
Brewery 1886 (grand opening delayed due to Covid, but I met the owner and it's going to be great!)

Thank you! I actually moved for work—during this mess—at the end of March, so I have a world of exploring to do as things open up. Thankful to have purchased my AP about a month before they discontinued sales.

I was/am a WDW gal, as those were our family vacation spots and my sister is a CM there. But I’m trying to slowly transition my fandom here 😂

Most of the hotels in the resort area have shut their doors completely so they don't have to provide free rooms to homeless. So that is why you are seeing typical rates at the few that are still open.

I don't think you'll have a hard time being won over to Disneyland. I visited twice in the last year and would have been back this fall if it wasn't for this dreaded pandemic.

Have you got takeout from Strongwater Anaheim yet? They seem like lovely people and the drinks and food look great! We made some of the cocktails they shared recipes for on instagram. All were delicious!

And what's the name of the GREAT Mexican place in the Orange Circle? Ate there once and it was terrific!
