Doors Fail to Open on Monorail Yellow

In the last few months....
Disney has had doors fall off, doors that stayed open through the trip, and doors that refused to open.
It's past time for either new monorails or the deconstruction of the monorail lines.

Think about it, it's all door related.

The door refusing to open off sets the door that remain opened during the trip

Jk but honestly the door falling off was due to an ecv ramming it. And yellow tonight I suspect is more human error then mechanical. I do want new trains badly but these two incidents are not reasons to me.

They do. This isn’t it. Many people clearly failed to do their job properly tonight including the front desk cast member.

Was there last night a few hours before and the lines for the monorail were insane. At the Poly I noticed the front car closed. I thought it was weird, but perhaps to save room for Grand and MK? Perhaps someone forgot to/didn't open the doors becuase they thought that last car was to be closed as to leave room for ML and Contemporary?

I am officially embarrassed for the Walt Disney company.

Absolutely the wrong response from a CM. But I'm wondering if he thought it would just be covered up if filed as a private complaint, but felt it needed more exposure.

The incident was reported to (XXX), a Cast Member at the Front Desk of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. When asked whom should be contacted to report the safety concern, (XXX) said to post it on Instagram, instead of indicating a contact from Transportation or Public Safety. (XXX) said that Disney monitors social media.

This is the type of service that one can expect from the “flagship resort of Walt Disney World.” I can’t tell if the Cast Member was being cynical (realistic) or just didn’t know better. I’d lean toward the cynical. This is the result of either poor training or poor morale.

The lines at the resorts have been truly insane. It doesn't help that the way they are staging guests is completely inept. They have such little space past the metal detectors, before the gate, that at some point they stop checking guests until the monorail comes. This keeps the monorail there way too long while they keep screening guests.

They really need to redo the boarding area for the monorails more like Magic Kingdom, where guests can spread out along the length of the station after they clear security, while waiting for the monorail to come. This way they can load much quicker by continuously checking people so it doesn't get backed up.

Yeah definitely seems like there's more to this. Especially it being a group of teens makes me wonder if they did something stupid and the CM was messing with them.

I’m guessing human error. They can intentionally lock the doors closed of a single vehicle for maintenance, custodial, or operational concerns. I have also seen them lock doors closed at certain stations to ensure that there is capacity for a station down line. For example it used to be common to not load the last car on resort at the MK at night so that there would be capacity for guests boarding at contemporary. I’m guessing this was human error and misunderstanding by cast at other stations. The biggest issue is the uselessness of the emergency phone.

Usually to lock the doors requires accessing the panel in the car and the same process for unlocking them. That doesn't seem to be the case here. It seems as though the doors specifically weren't opened by the driver. The driver can open all doors or open individual doors so they would've known that those doors weren't opening since they would've had to open the other cars individually. At the end of the video it appears the CM simply walks over and presses the button to open the doors indicating the the doors were indeed working correctly.

I was on monorail green (cab 4) last night on the resort loop, at around the same time and when we stopped at the Poly the door on the cabin I was in wouldn't close properly. One door of the pair was fine but the other would get about halfway and bounce back. After multiple tries we realized that for some reason, that portion of the car was apparently riding a little low, or leaning toward the station a little. It resulted in the metal bar that pivots with the door as it closes was rubbing against the yellow and black "mind the gap" stripe that's right at the edge of the platform. Once it was clear what was happening, they took a few people out and the door opened and close just fine. They then put everyone back in and it seems the shuffling of people in the cab adjusted the weight enough that they were able to open and close it normally multiple times before they sent us on our way. The trains were absolutely packed to the max at the time.

I have to admit I've never seen this happen before but I just wrote it off as a fluke because things worked exactly like they were supposed to once it was understood what was happening. The door opened and closed properly at the Grand Flo station so it seems for some reason the train was riding just a tiny bit low at that location causing the door to rub on the rubber strip.

They are all laughing and being silly which is why no one took them seriously. If they had a more serious demeanour it probably wouldn’t have taken so long. Why a CM didn’t notice that their doors hadn’t opened when every other door had opened is a problem.
