Trip Report *DONE!* Take a dash of Food & Wine, a 30th birthday, some crayons, a 10 mile run and what do ya get?

.. A Tower of Terror 10 miler trip report of course!!! :)

Aloha boys and girls and welcome to my fall 2012 trip report!! I’ve decided to stop the trend of losing my vacation pictures starting with this TR. If you read my last 2 trip reports (well, one and a half since my May TR still isn’t finished… oops!!) you know that my sister accidentally deleted the last day of pictures after our November 2011 trip which included our Crystal Palace character breakfast, meet and greets with Aladdin, Jasmine, Davy Crockett Donald as well as a couple others.. Then while in the process of writing my May 2012 TR I lost my memory card and only the first 2 days worth of photos were saved :( Obviously, I don’t have good luck with vacation photos. HOWEVER - When I got home this time, I immediately saved them to my sister’s external hard drive and put the memory card in a safe place. We also ordered the Photopass CD and I took over 1300 pictures so needless to say this will be a picture infused trip report for sure!

If you’d like to read my PTR, you can find it here:
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...-crazy-a-tower-of-terror-10-miler-ptr.848349/

At first it was just going to be a long weekend trip to run our first Disney race: The Tower of Terror 10 Miler. Yes, you read that right. 10 miles! And I’m not a runner by any means but my sister and I signed up for the race in February. Clearly we are just crazy. Or we were just cold up here in snowy, frigid Maine and the thought of getting out of Maine for any reason seemed appealing at the time, even if it meant running (or fast walking) 10 miles. Training didn’t go as well as we had hoped and there were times we thought of dropping out cause let’s be real here, 10 miles is no short distance. The longest run I put in before the race was 5 miles. My hip acted up here and there and it hurt me to run sometimes. But we decided to give it a shot. The worst that could happen? We get swept but at least we could say we tried it. Besides, my gal pals Jess, Courtney and Shelley (@PartOfYourWorld @enchanted_belle and @Fashionista007 respectively) were going to be running as well. So I had some motivational support right there. I’m sure by now you’re probably wondering… Did I finish the race? You’ll have to read all about it to find out!! So who’s with me? Alright then… let’s get this thing rolling!!

Monday September 24 – Arrival day and our trial of Fast Pass Plus!
My alarm went off bright and early on Monday morning. Actually, it was more like dark and early since it was 3:20am. Mom and my grandmother would be there at 4am sharp to pick me up for our 1 mile commute to the airport. Our flight was at 5:40am and after researching the outgoing flights that morning and finding that 6 flights were leaving within 30 minutes of each other at our small little jetport, I decided we should be there by 4:15. That would give us a solid hour and a half before our flight to check our bag, get through security and maybe grab some breakfast. A little before 4, I let my pup Luca out and gave him lots of kisses as I would miss dearly while I was gone. I mean who wouldn’t miss this face?!

luca-1.jpg

Mom and Grams showed up and we loaded my stuff into the car and we were on our way (I should mention here that Ashley would not be flying in until Wednesday evening due to her not being able to get as much time off from work) I had already checked us in for our flight with AirTran so all we had to do was check our one bag, print our boarding pass and get through the security line…. Only there were no lines. No line to check the bag and maybe 3 people ahead of us at security. And here I thought the line would be huge with so many people traveling early. Oh well. Better safe than sorry. We had an hour and 15 minutes to kill so I grabbed a magazine and read.

It was still dark out when we took off and we made it to Baltimore without issues. We landed in BWI at 7:10 so we had about an hour or so before the next leg of the trip so I went and got us some Jamba Juice. Mmm….. yummy!!

When we went to board the plane to Orlando, the ticket lady scanned my ticket and then she told me that our seats had been changed. She handed me and my Mom new boarding passes and told us “Here sit in these 2 seats. They’re in business class” A free upgrade to business class? Heck yes!! The extra leg room was nice and we got some Milano cookies as opposed to mini pretzels. You didn’t get anything additional other than a little extra leg room and priority boarding. The extra leg room was DEFINITELY nice but the fact it was about $300 more each way than what we paid, it just didn’t seem worth it. The only thing separating business class and coach was a curtain behind the seats so it wasn’t like you were really secluded. Sorry but the additional $600 that business class cost could be better spent elsewhere… like a stay at the Polynesian :) It was nice though to try once, especially since it was free. Since we were close to the front of the plane, we were first to disembark when we landed in sunny Florida 14 minutes ahead of schedule. No waiting at the back of the plane. That was nice…

We headed straight for DME and there wasn’t really a long line. We hopped on the bus headed for the All Star Resort and at promptly 10:38am we were bound for the happiest place on earth!!!

Getting closer……
DSC_0006-1.jpg

We’re here!!!!!
DSC_0007-1.jpg

We stopped at Coronado Springs first and then All Star Sports. We were finally there and I was super excited. We walked right up to the online check in and checked in with a CM name Sena. At this point I realized I did not have my ID on me and it must have fallen off my lap on the bus. FAIL! Good thing I brought my old ID with me. At first the CM seemed ok. We had requested the football section, ground floor and our requests were met. But when I asked her about our 2 day base ticket that we had to purchase in order to get free dining, she started talking to me like I was a moron. Sorry lady, but I don’t understand how it all works. I DON’T WORK HERE! YOU DO! Which Is why I’m asking you. Basically I asked her if our tickets were on our Key to The World card and if I could get them taken off that and put on a separate ticket, like when you just buy your park pass from guest services. She told me “No, the tickets are on there. It’s a package!” with a very snarky attitude. I told her I figured that would be the case but told her we have annual passes. This was where she rudely interrupted me and said “Then just don’t use the room key to get into the parks!!” Ummmm, ok, but how would I use the tickets in the future? Just bring that same room key when I wanted to put it towards my annual pass next year? “You would save it! Just like you would any other ticket!” At that point I was sick of her attitude and I sharply said “OK! Thanks!” took my packet and walked away. She did NOT have the friendly attitude I would expect from a Disney employee. There was no need to talk to me like she did. I’ve never booked a package so I don’t know how it works. I understand you get asked the same questions every day probably but this is the first time I am asking it. No need to be nasty with me. I think they need to sprinkle her with some pixie dust or something, make her a little more friendly.

So after a not so nice first encounter, we took stopped in the food court to pick up our refillable mugs. We have 4 mugs already at our house and if they weren’t free with the dining plan, we probably wouldn’t have gotten them. Honestly, we probably would have brought our ones from May and used those. Don’t hate. I know you’re not supposed to use them past your stay but we just got them 4 months ago. And we don’t use them that often. At least we’re not using the old ones from like 5 years ago or even older ones back when they had resort specific mugs (both of which I saw being done.) We then took our stuff to the room.

football-1.jpg

We were room 121, a corner room. We were super close to the main building so that was awesome. I don’t think if we had booked a preferred room that we would have been much closer. We actually could have even been further away so I’m glad we saved our money, switched to a regular room and just requested the football section so thanks John @blackthidot for suggesting that. I’ll review our room and the resort in full at the end of the TR.

Of course I took a picture of the room. Just one. Because what trip report would be complete without at least one room picture! :)

After a quick change and a phone call from a CM at the front desk letting me know our DME driver had found my ID, we headed to the bus stop for our first park: Magic Kingdom! We had some Fast Pass Plus cards to trial!!

After dinner, we headed back over to The Land to use our Soarin FPs. Apparently I decided not to take any pphotos tonight except for Illuminations! After Soarin, we headed over to Mexico and we sat down to wait for Illuminations. Somewhere in between Via Napoli and there I realized I did not have my sunglasses. RATS! All these trips and i had yet to lose a pair and now, I had. Bummer.

Illuminations was great. I got a few pictures. Not the best, but they're ok.

There were EMH that night so we headed over to the Character Spot to meet the Fab 5. There was a less than 5 minutes wait. SCORE!

The big cheese himself!

Pretty with Minnie

Pluto love!!

Awwwww Donald!!

Love me some Goofy!!

Every trip I pick out a new frame and print a picture for the frame. This picture below is the one I chose from this trip. It's hanging in our living room!

I like this picture, Not bad at all.

I started reading your TR because I'll be doing the 10 miler myself this year and wanted to know how your race went. However, I'm not sure if your TR will be done by the time I do my 10 miler in another 2 months, lol.

:)

haha, gee thanks!!! Well, I'm on Friday and the race is Saturday so it's not too much longer and I'll be writing that part! I've given myself 38 days. Because in 38 days I go on ANOTHER trip so I want to be done this by then!

Friday 9/28

We woke up bright an early at 7am, got ready and headed down to the food court for breakfast. It was another nice, sunny day at the world!!

I got my favorite, waffles and strawberries.

I can't remember what Mom and Ashley got. But I'm sure it was delicious! Breakfast foods are so yummy!! After we were done eating, we headed out to the bus stop.

A for Ashley!

We made it to our first park of the day right before rope drop... Can you guess which park? I'll give you a hint.....

If you guessed MGM (or Hollywood Studios as it's now called) then you're CORRECT!!

Mom offered to do the TSMM FP scramble and Ashley and I stopped into Mickey's of Hollywood to get me some sunglasses since I lost mine the day before. I settled on a pair of bright pink shades with Mickey heads on them. Stylish! $20 later, we headed down Sunset to 2 of our favorite attractions!

Here's one of them, but it woould have to wait....

We had an Aerosmith concert to get to first!!

RNRC was amazing as always! It was pretty much a walk on when we got on but afterwards the wait had climbed to 20 mins! We headed back to the BAH to meet Mom and also some characters!

First up, everyone's favorite duck couple! Daisy and Donald! Daisy has been my absolute most favorite character since I was little. Back then though, there were NO Daisy M&Gs in the park. Finally in 2002, when they had the character bus go around WS at Epcot did I finally meet my girl! I'm so glad she's out for regular M&Gs now!

Next I have written down that we met Piglet....yet I have no pictures of this. Weird. Anywho, it was onto the next character.... STITCH!! There was only one group in front of us but they took FOREVER!! I don't want to sound mean, so don't take it this way anyone, but, it seems like the people from Asia seem SO excited to meet these characters. And they take SO MANY pictures with them. It was 2 girls and they first both had to go up and hug Stitch an high five him and hug him some more... Then they got their pic taken together with him. Then one got her picture.... then the other.... then both of them again. Peace signs are also big with this culture I've noticed, too. Then they both wouldn't stop hugging him and high five-ing him and poking him. It was kind of annoying, especially since there was a line building. I'm all for good character interaction but we try to be as quick as we can, while having a little bit of fun, and then moving along so the next family can have a turn. To me, that's common courtesy but maybe I'm the only one.

So, finally, it was our turn!!

We decided to satisfy our sweet tooth with a stop at Starring Rolls. I had to get the oh-so-delicious red velvet cheese cake cupcake. Yes, this would be my second red velvet cupcake of the trip. Well, one and a half I had since I split the previous one with Mom. Hey, I'm in Disney! I'll indulge if I want to! I have no pictures of what Mom and Ashley got, sorry!

After our snack, we headed over to see the mouse himself!

Pooh had a short line so we popped over to see him too!

After some character meet and greets, it was time to use our FP to TSM!! Hip hip hooray!!

Gotta have a 3D glasses pic!

I got 180,00 or so. Not sure what Mom and Ashley got but my score was the highest (naturally.) I'm quite the competitor! haha. After TSM, we wandered down by the Backlot Tour and look who we ran into!!

Sully!! Awwwww. Gotta love Sully!!

We headed over to watch a show with some Muppets!

I think Ashley is trying to do her best Beaker impression here but I'm not sure....

We had an ADR to get to over at Epcot so we made our way to the front of the park.

The boat was at the dock so we hopped aboard. Onward to Epcot!!

This one is for you, @PartOfYourWorld :)

We had some time to kill before our ADR so we decided to grab a beverage from one of the Food and Wine kiosks. We tried to get the slush again at France but again, they did not have it. Boooooo!! So it was onto Morocco for a Mimosa Royale!!

It was delicious! I could drink mimosa's all day long! *hiccup!!* Yummy!!! :)

We headed towards our dining destination so we could check in for lunch. We were dining at my favorite restaurant on property. Any guesses? Here's a hint....

Did you get it? Ok, here's another hint....

One more, just in case you are still stumped...

For those who haven't guessed it yet, here it is!!!

LE CELLIER!!! This has been my favorite meal in the whole world (real world included!) since dining here in 2002. The filet is phenominal. I know LC gets a bad rap with some people and people call it overrated but to each his own. We love it! We checked in and we had to wait a little bit but soon enough, we were seated just after 2:05pm, our ADR time.

I started off with my favorite, the raspberry chocolate shake!

In all our trips there, we had never tried the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup. That had to change today, so we ordered a bowl of that. OH MY GOSH! It was delicious! Super awesome for dipping the bread into. Mmmmm mmmm!!

We polished off the soup and bread rather quickly. For our entrees, we all ordered the filet. Ashley substituted the risotto for cream cheese mashed potatoes. I just LOVE the risotto though!

For dessert Mom went with the creme brulee. She said it was very tasty. Ashley and I opted for the chocolate Moose! He was so cute, I didn't want to eat him! But I did. And boy was he yummy!!

Le Cellier was great as always. We didn't visit this past trip in May nor do we have ADRs for next month or November. With both lunch and dinner being on the expensive side, we've chosen some other options instead. We will return soon, LC, don't you worry!!

After lunch, Mom wanted to stop over in Mexico so we headed that way. I texted @PartOfYourWorld and she was over at the Hawaii booth with her mother so we stopped by to say hi. This was the first time Ashley and Jess got to meet! YAY!!

There were some crazy rain clouds moving in so we hopped over to Mexico real quick. Not sure if we bought anything there or not. We started to head to the front of the park when the skies opened up. It was coming down in sheets. We ducked into the store right across from Duffy to wait it out. We were in there maybe 10-15 minutes. I passed the time by browsing at what they had in the shop, Mom decided too buy some ponchos for us. When the rain let up a bit, we threw them on and trekked down to the art store. Ashley wanted to stop in and look at some shadow boxes so we did. The rain started coming down harder while we were in there. We didn't really feel like walking in the rain so we sat outside under the ledge and just watched the rain. And just like that, it stopped. We got up and headed for the exit.

We decided rather than walk all the way back to the International Gateway and risk the chance of the boats stopping if it started to rain again, we would take the bus back to MGM. So we waited.... and we waited... and waited some more. I think we waited about 20-25 minutes. Finally a bus showed up and we got back to MGM around 4pm I think. When we went through the gates and headed up Hollywood Blvd, I turned around and saw this pretty sight!

We decided too head down Sunset and check out the single rider wait for RNRC. The line was open so Ashley and I rode that.

Somewhere, we managed to get another FP for TSM (and actually as I write this, I remember when we used our first FP, they still had some left, so we grabbed another.) I won again with another high score! booo yeah!!!

We had another FP that was ripe for using for ToT so we headed that way.

Ashley and I again then hopped in single rider for RNRC. After that, we had ANOTHER FP for Tower, only this one was a milestone trip to the Hollywood Tower Hotel. This would be Mom's FIRST trip on Tower since I was in 6th grade. We're talking 18 years since she's been on it. We made her promise she would go on it at least once this trip so she kept her word.

The picture from the ride is priceless!!! hahaha.

After Tower Mom needed some time to settle her tummy down so we walked around not really going anywhere before we finally decided to go sit for Fantasmic! It was awesome. I cried. The usual. After that, the park was closed.

We decided too head back to the resort. After all we had a 10 mile race to run the next night!! Eeeeekkkk!!

TOMORROW: Finally.... the race!! Did we finish it all? You'll have to wait and see!!

Saturday 9/29 - RACE DAY!!!

I woke up at 7am on Saturday morning. The first thing I remembered was that we had a race to run that day. I immediately got nervous. This feeling stuck with me for the whole day! UGH!!

We got up, got ready and headed down to the food court for breakfast. Apparently I decided not to take pictures of our breakfast. Weird. Anywho, we headed out to the bus stop and waited for a bus to Animal Kingdom! It was EMH and we got there around 8:15. It was so peaceful in the park since the crowds were minimal at this time.

It was a little hazy and Everest looked so majestic looming in the distance...

Good morning, Harambe!

We decided to grab FPs for the safari and head over to EE.

Ashley decided to serenade people in the park with her drumming skills. Haha.

The oh so beautiful Tree of Life!

See what I mean about being peaceful and quiet? There was NO ONE around. It was surreal because this area is usually bustling with people going from Asia to Africa. But this morning it was just Mom, Ashley and me. It was nice.

Oh hello, Everest! Nice to see you this morning! :)

Unfortunately, Everest was down. Boooooo!! So, we kept heading forward over towards Dinoland USA!
