does UoE need to be more relevant?

forget about the ride...Jamie Lee Curtis needs to be updated from the Jeopardy segment...but seriously, the ride seems dated, not from the ride part, but the Ellen segment. I never found that part funny and I wish they would bring back a more scientific aspect...there is nothing funny about what is going on in the petroleum world today. Maybe something that would open up our eyes to a future without petroleum might be a better tact.

That's all well and good, and could be fine. IMO, I think the hardest part is to make is the "Spoonful of Sugar" so that most people actually aren't bored to death during they're vacation. It's possible, but difficult.
And sorry, but if 95% of your customers want Product A, and 5% want Product B... who are they going to go with? It's common sense.

It's a shame people aren't interested in topics like these.*ducks*

But,it is possible to make the attraction like the last one.Informative but fun.Almost like SSE(did I just say that?!?)

The first time I rode SSE 2007, I hated it with a passion! :fork:

But after I rode it several times I don't think it's all that bad. The AA's are WAY better, and it is much more popular and many more people actually like it. So overall, it was a good change, I suppose. The '94 version was just more archaic and nostalgic.

Heh...

Counted. Point: Legacy.

What?!?

:D
Like I said in another "EPCOT angst" thread.I don't hate the current Epcot.I just wish and KNOW it could be better(IMO) for both the purists and the regular guests.

And yeah, that's why I loved SSE 94 too...It was so pretty and mysterious in the way it was presented.

Ahhhhh, EPCOT Explorer, you state it well! :)

With regards to UoE, yes, it needs to be refreshed, refurbished, re"energized" (heh, heh, couldn't resist :D), and overall, completely redone. Point is, its been the same for, what, 13 years now? And with energy being such a hot topic in today's society, this pavilion is desperately outdated and behind the times.

It's wierd.Yeah,John Hench did it but to me it just looks silly.

So does the sign thing in the front. That spire looks so strange in front of this huge wedge of a building. The old sign was pretty cool.Simplicity at it's best.

Bill Nye will always be relevant.

And if it is changed, the subject matter should definitely stay on the lighter side. It is a theme park, after all, where people go to have fun. There's enough worries outside of the theme park regarding petroleum and gas prices. I definitely don't want to have that featured in an attraction. As was pointed out by others, there are definitely other alternative fuel and energy sources than are covered in the current presentation.

To me, UoE has always been a pavilion that could have a really cool post show, which is something that has always been lacking there.

Bill Nye's show hasn't been on the air in years...I think.

Yeah, keep it light hearted(you don't want peeps having panic attacks over the cost of their vacation AND gas:lol:) but relevant. The "going green" theme works here.

And UoE USED to have a post show and a slot in CommuniCore....back in the good old days.:lookaroun

Think about how amazing it would be if Epcot tied into the "green" thing. They could do a whole media campaign. First, they should build a Solar Tower (like they have in Seville, Spain) which can power up to 60,000 homes. They should use that to power all of Future World, and if possible, all of Epcot. Now, obviously, a refurb of UoE would fit in with this. So, they need to go all out, IMO.

First, they should replace the solar panels with more efficient ones. Then, they should add these vertical axis wind turbines around the pavilion where they can display whatever they want, AND conserve energy. Now, obviously, they need to refurb the actual ride. I say, get rid of the big celebrity draw and just have and just have a narrator (I like a previous poster's idea of Morgan Freeman). Then, change the pre-show back to an updated version of the original, complete with the return of the Radok Screens. Then, Theater 1 would be the same idea as it has always been, and so would the dinosaurs (with revamped AAs of course:animwink:). In my opinion, Theater 2 currently needs the most help, and so I would do a complete overhaul of the theme. Instead of alternative energy (which most people don't-or feel like they don't-have any control over), it could instead talk about ways that the average person can help. Maybe show what exactly COULD happen if every person in the country switched only one bulb to CFL. I think that people respond better to that sort of thing because it lets them feel like they have the power instead of a "now write a letter to your local representative" type of thing. The finale back in Theater 1 could be sort of a slideshow thing like the one at GMR, going back from the beginning and recapping, and then leaving it up to you.

Now, for the post-show. The problem now is, there isn't one. I feel like this ride could have an AMAZING interactive post-show. These are my ideas so far:
-Touchscreen computers where you can calculate the difference your household has already made. Then, you can say what sort of things you would be willing to do in the future, and it could show you how much more of a difference that would make. It could also email you the list, so you get to take it home and actually do those things.

-Dioramas on how energy efficient devices work (CFLs, solar panels, etc)

-A more kid-friendly area where kids could make a promise to do something like turn off the lights when they leave a room, and get a certificate.

-An area where they explain the solar tower they would have just put in

Now, these are all just my ideas. I do want to hear feedback, but please remember that I know it is all just a fantasy. While it could happen, I doubt Disney is willing to spend that much money on the refurb or the solar tower (but think of all the money it would save in the long-run!)

Also, which I forgot to mention earlier, here is the link to the solar tower:

I just don't think she's funny. Her being nice as nothing to do with it.

:sohappy: I agree!I just wonder if there is the room...Perhaps it's time to dig up the the Energy Exchange in CommuniCore.

Oh,wait.:lookaroun

Love the Solar Tower BTW...If they were to do something like that,it reminds me of the satellite dish they used to have off the side of CommuniCore.Disney would probably make it look VERY cool.

Absolutely - there is no room in Energy for a post show. That`s why Energy Exchange was built right next door in Communicore, with its own entrance next to Energy (the current blacked out glass fire doors) - you exited Energy, turned right at the end of the path, and walked through the doors. Voila!

Innoventions has a lot to answer for....
