Does the MK hub need more trees (again)?

Tom

Beta Return
The lack of trees is sickening.

Everytime someone justifies how they've slaughtered so many to 'improve views' i want to scream. People wake up, it's a PARK. And one in Central Florida where shade is valued!

To see how barren and concrete-filled MK has become is just sad. And for what? So you can see some lousy small-scale projections on the castle IF you happen to be right in the Hub?

All I can hear is Walt talking about DL in the 50th Anniversary film about how the park will look more beautiful every year because ''even the trees will grow'' ... compared to DL, DLP and, even the almost new, HKDL, MK has become quite lacking in trees.

First, they cut them down in Town Square and replaced the mature trees with strip center seedlings and wood chips from Home Depot. Then, came the Hub and Hub Waterways. And finally we've had Fantasyland lose some mature trees and planters (not to mention around the now gone 20K lagoon).

Fireworks are largely in the sky. And a few projections on the castle and a few pyro shots from it are NOT in any way, shape or form justification for what has been done.

Just more Walmarting WDW!

They could probably stand some trees in other areas of the park, but I would much rather see the train station and the castle than some trees in Town Square or the Hub.

Trees create a park-like setting. They also reduce noise and provide much-needed shade. The Hub was an oasis in 95-degree weather and beautiful with all the twinking lights at night (in trees that no longer exist).

It wasn't until Wishes came to MK that it was so important to stand right dead center of the castle to see pyro. You could view the show in Liberty Square or Tomorrowland and essentially get the same experience.

But not with Wishes (like any of Steve Davison's shows, my only criticism of them) where people feel they lose something if they aren't in front of the Castle.

That meant operationally opening things up, so the Castle appears massive. But those better views for more people came at a large cost.

And frankly, the show is already tiresome ... moppets singing like nails on a chalkboard!

Well pictures infront of the castle are much better now because halp of it is not burried behind trees.

they take away trees at the MK, but let them run wild at EC :lookaroun
Another problem. EPCOT needs to do some shaving.

Spirit! You do know that all these things are your opinion, right?

As for the bolded...I think that's always held true. That's the end of every "Disney Day". That's the synthesis of your Magic Kingdom Experience. Cinderella Castle, MSUSA, and Fireworks. I don't remember anytime when it's NOT been pushed like that. Wishes only facilitated that, seeing that it was the first of Disney's "New" shows in this age that likes to market what you call "moppets singing like nails on a chalkboard!"...In that it calls for more sightlines and a better show experience, for what I like to think of as a stellar show. The ends justify the means, here. Machiavellian Disney World. :)

I agree... I'm tired of this whole "we must cater to the tourists in WDW" crap... I being a local wish for WDW to be a bit more considerate of the locals... Honestly I mean, it's so aggravating and frustrating thinking about how the Magic Kingdom has been slowly downsizing and instead of having a sense of upkeep, they let attractions slowly and painfully degrade... My goodness, if you look at our Peter Pan, you will understand what I am talking about. The moon looks almost like a dusty mass in the middle of the show building, heck, you could see the wire or better yet, string that's holding the thing! You could sooo tell it's styrofoam! In TDL, the Monsters Ride and Go Seek attraction, which just opened a few months ago is already down for refurbishment! While our Peter Pan, Snow White, Pooh is stuck decades behind(with the exception of Pooh of course)

Another issue with WDW these days is the lack of uniqueness in the stores. I'm not saying that the parks aren't unique btw. If you go to Pirates of the Caribbean and enter the gift shop at the end, you will find some merchandise from HSM. What is HSM merchandise doing in the middle of a Pirates store, better yet, in the middle of Adventureland!? I understand we get tourists and we need to keep them coming, but the very thing that made tourists want to actually come here in the beginning was the thrill of having something new, something unique that they won't see in their hometown, but it's slowly losing its uniqueness. For example, back then they had shops that withheld items that were pretty unique to WDW, not something you would find in your typical shop.

I hope I am making my point clear. Again I love WDW, and I live right next door and I grew up with it, but it's not all about the tourists. Hopefully the FYL Expansion we are getting will be a step in the right direction and kind of lead the way for the rest of the property towards more prosperity.

Yes - We need more shade.
Yes - You can see the Contemporary and BLT from the Hub!

No - They're out of scale with the castle.
No - You cant see wishes.
No - They'll interfere with the parade floats.

All depends on you're personal POV.

I think the "No's" outweigh the "Yes's" here, and by far. Interference with Show is bad.

MORE TREES. Seriously, Kingdom is a'sparse. WDW has been cutting back landscaping pretty ruthlessly. Everytime I notice somewhere looks dry, arid, and empty, I immediately notice it's somewhere landscaping has been cut back. Kingdom's hub, one or two spots in Epcot and Studios, and most recently they cleared out the front of Tree of Life for easier photo ops...Don't like it a bit!

It's hardly a crisis though, inna'final analysis.

For another rebuttal, see Teagan & Sara's "Our Trees", track 2, "Under Feet Like Ours" album.

They might have BEEN doing that, but I found several areas VERY lush in Aug. Hoping to see more of it in Two Weeks. :D

...And don't forget the Tree of SM Refurb Doom and Friends in TL. :D

EPCOT needs help, too....but they need to cut LOTS of stuff back. Way too much overgrowth in EC. Save that for DAK.

That doesn't count...That's like saying Animal Kingdom has a ton of other trees so that makes up for this one dry spot.

And seriously, if Epcot is "overgrown" I don't know what is. Epcot looks great with you know...a small amount of plant life. Where are you talking about?

True.

EPCOT is VERY overgrown. I know that you'll disagree, but The Land's entrance plaza is gross, Innoventions Plaza has those very odd planters next to the CCore Buildings that have HUGE leafy bushes that block and hide both windows and the structure, FW East is VERY overgrown near UoE and WoL, and the Entrance Plaza/LaL trees that frame SSE are too much branch, not enough leaf.

EPCOT's FW should be manicured, clean cut, and sculpted. It fits the theme. It's WS, on the other hand, that needs to have nature as depicted as it is in the country you are visiting.

How is it what "EPCOT is"?

EPCOT is about the Future, EPCOT is about technology, EPCOT is about where we are going, and where we have been, as a people.

In that, I think that Man dominating and shaping his surroundings, i.e, nature, in this case, is a perfect representation of that. In FW, everything is "perfect" in that sense. Nothing is left to chance or fallen to whimsy. It's manicured, clean cut, and serves a purpose.

I think clean cut plants is perfect for that. :D

EPCOT is about all that but what is wrong with sprucing it up a bit and making it look nice? I for one find the EPCOT look of today just fine. I was there after it first opened and while I hate the whirly-gig things,The topiary they have added was done to upgrade it and makes it look just fine. I think stuff like the plants and trees to me look just fine.
