Does it bother you, not arriving at the TTC?

Doesn't bother me at all. I'd rather just take the boat/monorail if staying at the GF or taking a taxi to Contemporary and walking the rest of the way

Arriving at the TTC is your penance for not staying onsite.

No, sorry can't say I do. The least amount of time I have to be at TTC the better. Our first trip back in the 80s we stayed off property and parked and took the tram in. So glad I never had to do that again after that!

The TTC just feels like an old run down bus stop to me, don't miss not seeing it, and try to avoid it at all times if possible

These quotes sum up my thoughts exactly. In the mid/late 70's when I was a kid, we stayed off-site and did not know anything other than using the TTC. But in the early 80's they started the big-time Florida Resident discounts at the resorts, so we "graduated" to the Poly for every single trip thereafter. The TTC was ONLY used to transfer to Epcot. Now, I would not be able to stand having to go anywhere near that place.

The shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line.....

I like the direct route. Take me to the entrance, please. I remember as a kid my dad parking in the lot at the front of Disneyland and just walking to the entrance from our car.

I do love the ferry ride over, but I rarely consider taking it anymore because of the convience of the bus system to the front gates. I think I would really only consider taking a first timer on it at this point so they could get the experience.

Disney also learned their lesson with the way the MK and TTC are laid out, no other park has such a grand entrance that is just a huge bottle neck to people coming and going, you can't easily walk to the parking lot from the MK which is just a huge slow down the operation type of thing.

I stayed off property for the first time last year and realized how annoying the setup is

This is directed mostly to resort guests. I was wondering if anyone else feels like I do. For me one of the few drawbacks of staying on property is arriving by Disney transportation at the gate to the Magic Kingdom, instead of the TTC. Part of the magic for me has always been riding the tram to the ticket center and then the monorail to the main gate. It's just such a special way to arrive. Seeing the castle across the lake. And slowly making your way towards it. *sigh* I really miss that.

The TRAM Ride is the best part!!! I must admit when they first changed it to Heroes and Villians I missed parking the car :-) My biggest memory of WDW when I was little was the Tram Ride!!

The grand entrance of MK is different for everyone. I like to get there as soon as possible, whether it be by bus, boat, or monorail. Staying at a deluxe resort makes that really easy. Staying at a moderate or value, straight bus, but if one wants the TTC or monorail, use the bus to DTD and grab a bus to a deluxe resort and hop the monorail to get to the TTC. There are ways to get what you want, one just has to go through the troubles to get it. Disney transportation has many viable ways, it is up to the individual to make it happen. We do this from POR, go to EPCOT, then grab a monorail to MK. Why? Because we want to. Anyone can do it.

I went to Magic Kingdom last night. I live a hour from WDW so I drove and parked at the TTC. It took me about 25-30 minutes just to get from the parking lot to the park. I'm not a huge fan of it.

It really turns into one of those nostalgia vs I want to get there and spend all my day in the park and not another hour of time getting to and from the park at the end and beginning of the day

I am in the minority here because I experience the parks differently being a pass holder for my 11th straight year. That being said, I would be thrilled if I never had to go to the TTC again. Knowing that I am going to waste a considerable amount of time getting to the park from the TTC or leaving the park to be dropped off at the TTC actually limits my trips to MK compared to the other parks that are more easily accessible. When I do go to MK I never stay for the fireworks because I have to beat the rush of people heading to the monorails. It is especially hell when you get caught in one of those rare occasions while try to leave during a severe storm or even worse when the monorail is down completely. I know it is not feasible, and I certainly don't expect this, but I wish there was a pass holder parking lot near the park gates. I would certainly visit MK much more if there was.
In short, it totally depends on how one defines wasting time. I don't consider it a waste of time if I get to ride the Monorail or the Ferry across the lagoon. I consider it to be part of the overall experience and that both of those are attractions in my mind. I also consider the tram to be entertaining and battery charging albeit to a lesser degree. Where I really like it is when I leave. Tired and anxiously looking forward to a shower and relaxing, I can be in my car and to my room, either off or onsite, and be there before some of the rest of you non-time wasters are still waiting for a bus to arrive. :)

Yup... no time would be wasted with that approach. Just about an hour each way would be my estimate. All that would do is save the parking fee (for now). Nothing other than the fee is gained and a lot of valuable time, especially at the end of the day, is lost.

Go to MK from your resort. Leave the kids and wife for an hour in park. Take the monorail to the Poly. Have a beer at the pool bar. Get 3 Mai Tai to go. Walk from the Poly to the MK parking lot. Hop on a tram with last remaining Mai tai. Arrive at TTC. Before entering. Walk the walkway back to Poly, get 3 more Mai tais. walk the path back to TTC. Pour last remaining Mai tai in Disney cup. Hop on monorail or ferry your choice. Everyone is happy. :)

Ehh.. I get all that. But outside of maybe your first visit, or nostalgia, its such a pain to park and know you still won't be at the gate for another 20 minutes or so.
Sure, but to me, Seven Seas Lagoon area IS the park I'm visiting. I'm already in my own magic kingdom. :geek:

The ride with the ferryboat is only marginally less exciting to me than the ride on the Rivers of America aboard the Liberty Belle, the monorail loop only slightly less relaxing than the PeopleMover. I no more need to rush to the MK than I need to rush through Main Street to get to the attractions - MS is the attraction for me.

The TTC is a gorgeous building hidden under a layer of 90s gaudiness.

To me the TTC and the Contemporary and Tomorrowland form one architectural ensemble. But I must admit I have a nostalgic eye. I look at WDW as an (amateur!) archeologist, in my mind peeling away later layer after layer to see a place that once was. Currently, TL, CM and TTC are but a disconnected architectural junkyard consisting of a toon spaceport, Daytona Beach Resort Towers and a cheap 90s amusement park entrance. None of whom bear any relationship to a monorail, either in concept or looks.

Whereas previous it all felt more connected. Tram, TTC, Contemporary, monorail - it is one big Tomorrowland:

I've tried to see the TTC in this light, but I just can't help but see it as ugly and outdated 1970's design... made even worse by slapping outdated cheap 1990's design on top of it.

I agree with all but the highlighted. The ferry ride is far more interesting to me then the RoA.

I usually fly to Orlando and take the Magical Express. So a lot of the times, I am without a car. I would prefer it if the buses from the resorts went to the TTC so I could take the monorail over to MK. To me, taking the monorail is part of the experience, not just a method of transpertation. I've spoken to others about this and they feel the same way.

I don't. I think that would be an inefficient use of the bus service. You wait at your resort for a bus, then wait again at TTC. I understand the nostalgia of riding the monorail, I love it, but the transportation system in my opinion works decently right now. I think adding a route from each resort just to the TTC would just muck it up.
