Does Epcot Need Saving?

The interactive video and the ability to send a momento of your ride in the post show area is not enough? You can't be more involved than choosing the ending of your ride.

Ironically, it was the same thing as Horizon, but because they dare make you laugh at it, it's the worst thing in the world.

I also wanted to flag this as a perfect can't see the forest through the trees (no offense). Has it ever been consider that the dark ride portion of The Seas is to actually portray you going into the sea? Just because one small facet of the pavilion is not educational does not mean the rest of the pavilion does not have merit. Have you read the information in the bays? Why does this pavilion not count as education?

Point taken. As for SSE it's not the rider involvemnt that bothers me...I think it's the sillyness of the animation.THere's no way the future will have that look.It kind of alienates you when you think about it.If it were more realistic, and more futuristic than cartoony,I think it would be accepted better. But,you are right about the physical involvement. Thanks for showing that to me.

As for Nemo...Sure,a under the sea adventure is great. But how is it futuristic? It IS Future World,is it not?

And let's stop the teenager bashing please...Not all of us are idiots.

Q: Does EPCOT need saving?

A: No.

It is the second most visited theme park in the world, if I'm not mistaken. Certainly without question a top 5.

Certainly that number is inflated by the number of people who merely go there to dine.

My biggest gripe about EPCOT (and AK and HS) is the lack of rides. Let's face it, the reason that Test Track and Soarin' have long waits (breakdowns notwithstanding) are that they are fun rides. SE? Not so much fun. It's not popular because it is a fun ride, it is popular because everyone has heard of it and feels no Disney trip is complete without a ride on it (in the same vein as IASW). While I applaud Disney for wanting to educate its guests, I can go to a museum for much cheaper AND learn MORE information. I go to a theme park (and coat it any wau you like: Disney IS a theme park) to have fun. Taking a "tour" around a greenhouse is not that exciting. If you were to actually do a comparison of rides to admission ratio, Disney is way overpriced (not counting stage shows or 3D movies...only rides where there is a moving vehicle). While simply sticking in rides wouldn't work (i.e., rides with no themeing), they do need more of them. Particularly HS, which has only 6 actual rides. That's over $12 per ride. With what Disney charges for each park (I believe they are all the sdame admission price, correct), there is absolutely no reason to not add more rides. I've seen other posts where people refer to AK and HS as "half-day" parks. They shouldn't be. If you are paying in excess of $70, I should be able to do a lot more than 6 rides and three shows. Considering Six Flags (on average) has over 50 rides in each of its park and is at least $20 cheaper, I should be able to get more than just great themeing at Disney.

I haven't ridden SSE since the new "enhancements" as well call them...but I can only guess the flash animation thing was added for FUN!!!! Guess what? We're in a theme park...a place that's supposed to be fun. Sure, they taught you some stuff in the first half of the ride...but now...it's time to have some fun. Is it maybe not the best way to accomplish it...that's a matter of personal opinion and one I"m still reserving for whenever I can get back down there to visit SSE. (So don't bash me too hard on this...I haven't even seen video of this...I still want to keep an open-ish mind on the whole thing.)

Once again, it falls into the whole purist attitude...just b/c they changed it a tiny bit doesn't make it edutaining....evening if the end isn't as inspirational as it once was.

I'd bet though that most of your average guests are having fun with the enhancements, no matter how silly and Jetsony they may be.

I haven't ridden yet either so a add me to the open mind mentality too...I'm just saying...Inspiration is needed for a place like Epcot.Otherwise you have Tomorrowland II

And what's so bad about being a purist?
I used to be undecided but now Im not so sure.

I'm pretty sure I'll tell you my tentative decision tomorrow....Or not.

What on Earth is so futuristic about the Land? I can go to a food court at a mall and buy a suspended garden for my kitchen. I can go hang-gliding wherever there are mountains if I'm willing to pay for it.

You said that the Land is the type of pavillion that all of them should mimic... but it is just as futuristic as Rock'n Roller Coaster (ie - not at all).

EDIT - I'll reserve my opinions of teenagers for you then.

Honestly Nibbs, I think you would get a kick out of the new ending. The humor is very you.

I think too much credience is put on the whole FUTURE World portion...to me...it's just a name. I don't think about it too hard...I just enjoy what there is to offer.

The Greenhouse scene in LWTL...Soarin' to some exent.

I heard a rumor that Future World should be re-branded as Discovery World.

Good/Bad?...I *would* say that it is too different and weird for Epcot but that would bring a ton of purist accusations so I guess I won't.
Careful, Nibs... don't ya know that you're supposed to think about it or it doesn't make sense why you're there. It surely can't be because you want to have fun! :zipit:

:ROFLOL:

There is such a thing a fun with a purpose...Example: Disney!

You want un-themed and disorganized fun?Orlando has other theme parks too.I don't see why you have to be rude about this.

Oh that's right...

Fun is not something I should be having at a THEME PARK...:lookaroun I should be thinking about things expressly and whether they fit perfectly in the land that they were put in...b/c if it doesn't fit 100% perfectly, then it's wrong, wrong, wrong. :zipit:

I enjoyed it.

But what do I know... I think the Imagination Institute was a great overlay.

Well, then I look forward to it...and maybe I'll be nicely surprised.

And I also don't think the Imagination Institue is SO awful. I wish they'd get rid of the skunk smell though! :hurl:

See...now why is renaming it to Discovery World too different and weird? I just don't understand...to me...it fits tons better. It's like the change to DHS...it's a little weird to get used to, but it fits just as well.

First... how are they futuristic? A hang-glider is not futuristic. You can teleport miles at a time while traveling through clouds... that's the most futuristic aspect of it. LWTL isn't futuristic, either. I can build a greenhouse in my backyard and do the same things they are doing. You can buy air gardens for your kitchen.

So HOW is the Land futuristic?

That rumor has floated around for years and was associated with Project Gemini. Most people don't seem to care about incongruency of the term "Future World," so why bother?

As far as "unthemed and disorganized," I don't think you have been to any other Orlando parks. If you have, you have gone in with the Disney-tinted glasses that say, "Anything not Disney is crap" Lost Continent and Jurassic Park at IoA, the Marketplace at Seaworld and Jungala at Busch Gardens are highly themed environments that are comparible to Disney.

 Did I really just say that something was as good as Disney? Yeah... you know why? Because Disney is a corporation that does it's job well. But they aren't the only ones.

You say not all teenagers are idiots, but the inconsistancies in your argument aren't helping you much.

Meh...I guess I could get used to it.And it would fit better. But PLEASE,PLEASE get rid of the skunk smell..and I actually do like the new(er)JIYI...It just needs to be a bit longer.Yes,like the old one...I know.*Purist*
