Does Disney "card" children?

I wanted to take my oldest son (8 years old) horseback riding next summer at Fort Wilderness. Disney says guests must be 9 years old and at least 48 inches tall. He's over 48 inches, but will be 3 months from his 9th birthday.

Will they ask for his birth certificate?

I know it's against the rules, but he really wants to go and I don't think a couple of months will do any harm. It's horseback riding, not drinking.

yeah i just don't see what experience or competence the child is going to gain in 3 months.

Its a "slippery slope" Ok so you say 3 months is not a big difference. So someone 3 months under the limit gets on. Now somone says, well my kid is 3.5 months under, whats the difference of 2 weeks? Now comes the 4 month under, with the some logic, etc etc etc.

Thats why many times when there is an age or height cut off its a hard fast rule. You have to set a bright line and then stick by it, or else it looses any sort of creendence at all.

The OP knows it - he's just asking other "do you think it would be ok to cheat"

What's the difference between a "rule" a "law" or a "guideline" - they're all there for a reason.

No offense Cap'n but you seem like you are taking this way to seriously. To me I would not want to deprive a child of something that would be fun be it 3-4 months. Now if he was gaining monetarily then yes that might be a big thing but he wants to spend money not save it.If his father feels this in no way will hurt his child then I say go for it. The idea to say someone is cheating just so their child has fun a few months earlier is just crazy.Like what Maggiegrace said "Why worry about what doesnt affect you?
The OP has no intention but good intentions and that is to see his child have a fun time he will always remember.

To the OP I bet you would have never thought you would feel like the dirtiest player in the game like Ric Flair.

Hey- if you were from China then your child would already be considered 9 as they count the first year as being one year old. Just a thought.

i love this one...very funny.....how is taking your son horseback riding 3 months before his 9th birthday cheating disney? so in 3 months he will go from not being able to ride a horse to being a freakin jockey at the Preakness? come give the guy a break. he was just asking a question. & why do people always have to bring up the "Sue" disney thing. not everyone is out to make a buck off of someone by suing them.

Like what Maggiegrace said "Why worry about what doesnt affect you?

Because it affects us all - but you obviously can't see that.

Someone who cheats the system gains an advantage at the expense of somebody else - somebody who is 9 or over is prevented from riding and so misses out or defers, if they defer then someone else misses out (and so on)

Why can't people stick to the rules, laws, guidelines (or whatever else you want to call them) and say "sorry, you're too young, but there will be another chance when you're old enough"

I went horseback riding last December one morning at Fort Wilderness. I was the only person there that morning. I don't think anyone's would "lose their chance".

yeah i can understand what you're saying dave, but in my opinion, setting an age requirement in the first place gives parents the feeling that just because their child is 9 he/she will be just fine riding a horse.
i'm sure there are some 8 year olds that can ride better than some 9 year olds so in my opinion the decision, ultimately, should be left up to the parents. they know their child best, not disney.

so if my kid who is a week over 3 years old gets into the park for free, how exactly does this affect you? or if i bring my refillable mug with me back in dec, are you not going to get enough soda when you're there in dec? there are rules, fine, but why would you worry more about people breaking them than disney does?

Suddenly I'm the villain for standing the moral high ground

I'm not the one cheating Disney - go bark at someone else

I am not doing anything illegal..I am not doing it to get on Space Mountain before everyone else..or whatever...I am doing it because I want to.:wave:and have been for a long time..and do not feel bad for it at all..:shrug:and I am not hurting anyone or cheating Disney out of anything at all..

Umm actually what you are doing IS illegal. By not following Disney's policy's regarding parking, you are technically tresspassing. And you are cheating Disney out of money by not paying for parking, so you are "stealig services." Disney can legally ban you from the property if they find out.

Pretty sure she's staying on site, so no cheating of parking revenue.
