Does Disney "card" children?

I wanted to take my oldest son (8 years old) horseback riding next summer at Fort Wilderness. Disney says guests must be 9 years old and at least 48 inches tall. He's over 48 inches, but will be 3 months from his 9th birthday.

Will they ask for his birth certificate?

I know it's against the rules, but he really wants to go and I don't think a couple of months will do any harm. It's horseback riding, not drinking.

Um, no.....I'm asking because I want to take my son horseback riding.

If my son was 6 or 7, I wouldn't think of "cheating" Disney. It just so happens that our trip will fall 3 months before his 9th birthday.

You are a bad person who is now in the same league as those who use Fast Passes inappropriately, lie about the ages of our children to get them in for free, pool hop, attend extra magic hours even if we aren't staying on property, and some other stuff that is so heinous thay I can't even mention it on these boards. How DARE you want to take your son horseback riding. Don't you know it's against the rules and Disney knows best? For shame.

ask disney, thats the easist thing to do.if you go to magic kingdom and say its your birthday in 2 months you can get the birthday badge!,
ive done the horseriding at wdw and its the most boring thing i think ive every done at disney, stuck on a horse thats tied to another thats tied to another etc, no interaction with the horse whatso ever, you may has well have been on a plastic horse on a track.boring.
but any way good luck with it, perhaps if they cant do it, go riding before the holiday/ or spend the time on the crazy golf fantasia course great fun together as a family!

The age limit may have something to do with the insurance coverage.
I have never seen WDW ask for proof of age for kids, but that doesn't mean they don't ask for it at certain times- like this, tours and water rentals though, we've never done those.

Isn't Disney self insured?

Actually, if he were a Chinese gymnast he would be 11.:lookaroun

Now that's funny!!:ROFLOL:

you're obviously worried about if you can get away with "wanting to take your son horseback riding" so you're asking to see you can get away with "'cheating' Disney".

There are age restrictions for safety reasons that probably has nothing to do with your child's competance or skill level. Horseback riding in central FL is not exciting anyway. I'm just saying...

Something to think about...

If the kid loses control of the horse and someone else gets hurt. Who is liable, and who would be sued(Disney or the parents? Or Disney suing the parents?)?? Most likely everyone's gonna get suead, but I wouldn't want to take that chance and find out!

My opinion..take him horseback riding....
I doubt they will ask for ID..it is not like he is 5 and you are passing him off as 9...

I also do not consider this cheating Disney..Others may disagree but whatever...

I park at the Poly every time we go and take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom and stay all day because I refuse to park at the TTC or take a bus..

I also say I have breakfast reservations so I can get in MK early and walk down Main Street and take pictures while it is basically empty...:)

I know..I am a rebel...;)

I think it will all be okay...

Have a great trip and remember to take pictures of your little villian on the horse..:)

I feel pretty sure that my husband would shoot me if I made us go any earlier than I already do! Oh but the lure of the almost peopleless picture is really getting me:lookaroun

Why should anyone be sued?

The parent should make sure that they are properly insured before attempting anything that might have the potential for harm.

Those are so beautiful! We managed to find a few totally empty spots smack in the middle of the day but the thought of going early for them... quiet and magic! What a combination!

I didn't say I thought cheating Disney was great. I'm just asking a question. As his father, I'll take the responsibility. Kids start much more serious horseback riding younger than 8 years old.

My now 9 y/o was taking show riding lessons at 7. She could not understand why she could ride at the stables at home, but not in WDW.

I never tried to get her in early, as her younger sister wants to go to, so we are waiting for her to hit 9
