does anybody know of anyone getting ill or dying from taking something free from somebody at Disney world doing a nice thing?

or are we just making up scenarios again.
No but we are saying it could happen where someone who wants to do ill to others could. The world has become a scary place where crazies are everywhere and Disney is not immune to crazies possibly committing harm.
Just because something hasn't happened before doesn't mean it never will happen. No one ever poisoned Tylenol before it happened years ago.
No one ever tampered with grocery store in my area until they caught someone putting needles in food packages. Another disgruntled employee was caught tampering with food by putting razor blades in pizza dough.
All we are saying is that it could happen so why chance it by putting your trust in someone you don't know by drinking or eating items that are randomly left in a hallway.

Kind of the same story of why your are seeing coffee makers being removed from rooms.

I was cautioned not to use the coffee makes in hotels because some deranged, stupid people think it's funny to pee in them!!!

fair enough.

could literally put that theory to anything in life.

why do you drive a car? if the odds of dying are much higher than somebody who posts on a disney fan site coughing on an unopened bottle of water that they are offering to other guests

weird

We drive a car because it’s a necessity in life. We have to drive to get to work, get our kids to school or events, to get groceries. We must drive if there is no alternative. Yes it’s a chancy thing that we may be involved in an accident and die but we take that risk. Picking up someone’s discarded food or drink is very different. It is not a necessary thing. On the street you see the homeless and poor taking food items that were thrown out, but that's completely different from what's going on at WDW.
But yes… everything is a risk in life. We all make choices that are risks and must then live with the consequences. Take someone’s discarded stuff if you want. I will not put myself or my family’s life at peril by doing something so blatantly foolish and risky.

So am I correct to assume that everyone who says they wouldn't take food from strangers didn't personally go trick or treating on Halloween, and never let their children go either?

I was going to also mention community-type potluck dinners, but I've had some bad experiences at potluck dinners over the years. Now those can be scary. Among other problems, you often can't tell how long the food has been sitting out before you arrive. Having taken food safety training, I've seen some scary stuff at community potlucks/cookouts when I KNOW how long the food has been left sitting out.

Then again, I've also worked in a number of restaurants, as did a number of my friends. Collectively, we saw all kinds of stuff. That was some time ago, but I don't think much has changed. If anything, rats are a bigger problem nowadays.

Trust is a funny thing sometimes.

I think this recent phenomenon of leaving unused good for others on Property makes me understand what I saw earlier this year when staying at WDW.

I noticed a large tote bag that looked like clothing left outside of someone’s resort hotel room next door to where I was located.
Figured it might be pool used gear, maybe a guest forgot to bring it inside their room as it seemed newish and neatly left in place.
It was late evening so I went inside my room and hit the hay, thinking nothing more about it.

Next morning, I leave and notice the bag still there.
Came back after a full day and night in a Park that late evening and the tote bag was still there….and no one was in the room next to me.
It certainly didn’t look like discarded trash…
Hmmm…

I assumed it would have been gone by now, or that Mousekeeping would have taken it away if it was trash…or even perhaps Security CMs thinking it was a safety hazard.
Nope.
It remained for another two days.
Never saw this before…

Now after reading this thread I am thinking this tote bag full of whatever was a case of folks leaving these items behind for others to take and enjoy.
Would explain some things…..

Eventually it did disappear…hopefully to be used and not just tossed in the trash.
And hopefully some items someone else ended up enjoying and found useful.
