We still call it MGM out of habit. I even found a piece of signage on my visit (two weeks ago) that said "Disney-MGM Studios" right next to Disney Hollywood Studios! I took a picture of it as proof. :)

wowy ou would think after 3 years they would have irradicated anything with MGM on it wouldn't you? lol.

i much prefer the name MGM Studios, and as i've always known it as MGM, it will always be MGM to me. it's a shame that Disney and MGM couldn't reach some sort of contracual agreement to keep the name though. it's always confusing when they start changing park names, especially to those who aren't in the know. i would have thought it would be better and easier for both parties to agree, but as always, money probably made the decision for them. shame, a real shame.

I MUCH prefer the current name. I never cared for the "MGM" name, especially when people would just refer to it as "MGM", because it always made it sound to me like it wasn't a Disney park. I always preferred to refer to it as "Disney Studios" or "the Studios" when MGM was in the name. The real name was "Disney/MGM Studios" but when people just call it "MGM" it downplays the DISNEY contribution and makes it sound like the MGM Studio built a park on Disney property or something.

When in actuality, the only attraction that used MGM properties was Great Movie Ride. (in some, but not all, scenes)

Star Tours, Indy, Muppets, Twilight Zone, and Aerosmith are NOT MGM properties, and neither are the ton of attractions featuring Disney and Pixar properties - Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Playhouse Disney, Disney Animation, Walt Disney: One Man's Dream, Fantasmic!, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and Toy Story Midway Mania.

Throw in the fact that the park was built and designed by DISNEY Imagineers and NOT MGM, and the MGM name seemed so out of place to me, as again, nothing in the park has ANYTHING to do with MGM except for a few scenes in the Great Movie Ride.

I am not always big on changes, especially those that involve closing beloved attractions, but this is one change that makes sense to me that I can support 100 percent!

Now, THIS I can totally agree with. :)

I used to call it "MGM", but, since the change, I've taken to calling it "Hollywood". Nostalgia notwithstanding, I think DHS is a better name anyway because MGM is only represented in the Great Movie Ride.

DHS reminds me of Department of Human Services, so I don't use that acronym.

If I'm talking to a Disney fan, I will say "Hollywood Studios Park," but if I'm talking to someone in the general public, I will say the MGM Studios park, because it does take people a long time to adapt to such change, especially the casual observer.

I grew up calling it MGM, and thought that would never change. But I tried to call it Hollywood Studios, and then I'd call it MGM, before you knew it, I was calling it by both names. I've actually confused certain tourists, makin' 'em think there are actually two different parks. :ROFLOL:

I grew up calling it MGM, but now it's nothing like MGM Studios besides the fact that it's the same park and features a few of the same attractions. I always thought the Hollywood Studios name sounded better, so that's what I call it.
