Do you read the news?

I check out the top headlines at Tomorrowland.

Unfortunately, they've been on a Stitch-kick for the past 9 years...

You'd think that Disney would incorporate some of the interactive elements to this guy. Like maybe have a simulated "Printing" view, where the newspaper would be printed with new headlines right in front of you. (akin to the ghostly poet from the Haunted Mansion queue)

Nope. Shut out the outside world. My DH will peek at the Sports page of the free newspaper here and there in 'the reading room.'

Once we followed news reports because the hurricane was coming and we thought that was enough to break the golden rule 'cause that portion of the outside World was come'n right at us.

As much as I love iPhones I now have to say I'd like to step on my kids iPhones from time to time. Going to need to pay for surgery for carpel thumbs someday.

My family never checks the news. We just don't care when we are at Disney. The outside world can be put on HOLD until we are finished. The news can wait. Unless it is a major ordeal that will impact our family, we have other friends and family to tell us. If there was a Tornado (Kansas is not even really in Tornado Alley :cautious:) that came by a took away our house, we have people to warn us not a broadcasting channel or news we page. Just why take your thoughts away from something happy to something less cheerful?

The only news I hear while at Disney is when a disgruntled sports fan walks by, which can be a bit of a drag if it proves my fantasy football isn't going so well.

We watch TV at night when we get back. Our kiddos are definitely early to bed, early to rise. So, we're back in the room no later than 10, except for when we're at MK watching wishes. It's interesting because I'm from Nebraska, so I'm used to the prime time shows being over by 10 and the news coming on. But, on the east coast there's this whole "extra hour of wonder and excitement!" :p Once, we came back to our room and actually were able to watch Modern Family and some other sitcoms. The funny thing was when I turned on the TV I was almost surprised to see those shows because in WDW I feel like I'm in a different world, and so my instinct was like "Wow! They have Modern Family here?" But, then I came back to reality and realized we were only in Florida- not Mars...(except for a few minutes at Epcot, then we really are on Mars...)

I dont check the news whilst in the parks but drive my DW nuts when we get back to the room because the first thing i do is turn on the TV and put on the news to see what has been happening during the day around thevworld.
Technically that is not "reading" the news.

I did specify reading at the top, because I was thinking of my own time reading the news on my phone standing in line for the Haunted Mansion at WDW or Roger Rabbit at DL, and I was curious if other people pass the time the same way while actually in the parks. (I'm getting the sense, which I pretty much expected, that even among news-watchers, my degree of sickness places me in a pretty empty room on this.) :bookworm:

The discussion has turned into a wider referendum on keeping up with the news in all forms throughout the whole vacation, and that's cool.

I'll check the news on my phone while on the bus or when we get into the room and have to check out ESPN nightly. I'll also check fb and twitter daily just to stay up on things.

I will always have my phone with me not only for MDE but we sometimes let our kids go other places in the same park and there has to be communication available.

I alway bought a USA Today at the resort bus stop, and read on the way to the park. We have not been to WDW since 2007, so I was wondering, do the still have newspaper boxes at the resort stops? :bookworm:

Yes, I do. Not as often as I would while I was at home, but yes, I like to keep up on the current events of the day....wait, does SportsCenter count cause that is my first place for news...
Twitter is often looked at while I am away...much news on there.

Generally, no, unless I happen to be flipping radio stations in the rental car and hear some news. However, the first park day of our last trip was the day of the Sandy Hook tragedy. I was sitting on that ledge across the street from RnRC waiting for my family to come off a ride, and a woman next to me was looking at her smartphone and started to get very upset. I asked if everything was ok, and she told me what had happened. I was horrified. When I had a quiet moment with my husband, I told him what I'd heard, and we decided to make a point of not turning on the news during the trip so as not to upset our children. There would be enough time for them to be scared about it when we got home. As it was, they heard about it on the TV on Jet Blue flying home. But at least we were able to keep our time in Disney 100% magical for them, if not for us.

I don't read the news or watch news on TV or check out the news on my phone. I don't read it or watch it at home so not going to do it on vacation. I have my head in the sand when it comes to bad news. I will watch ESPN and the Golf channel while at WDW so if it isn't sports news I'm clueless.

I don't think I've ever turned on the news while I'm there...I check the weather forecast and that's about it...I don't want to be bothered by the real world!
