Do you like musicals?

Yeah, I am so so glad Disney teamed up with MTI.

All of our lighting is rented, we cant afford most of what we rent. I am so happy that i can now use more then just Source 4's.

Oh ok, yeah I have been meaning to see Susical, ill have to order a copy of the script to Lucky Stiff to read it. What is it a comedy, drama, musical?

I also want to do "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", it sounds like a fun show. The music sounds like it would be like a "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown"

lol, yeah, i always like that kind of show.

You're a Good Man is one of the greats in my opinion. I have always wanted to be in it and play Charlie Brown.

Les Mis is also a good one to do, if you have money to do it right that is. A local high school did it and it was supurb! I wish i could get my high school to do it, but our director hates it.

LOL, yeah that happened to me before with a few shows. And I was at Disney World when a local theater company did Charlie Brown and I am sure i could have beaten out the guy that got it. Oh well.... Disney World was more fun and less work.

But try to talk them into Singin' in the Rain. Its a great show to do. Its a fun set to build and making it rain on stage leaves the audience in awe.

I'm always up for a good musical. I know Phantom has a lot of support, but I don't like it that much. my favorite is Sweeney Todd.

We had the rain effect made up of a hose with little holes in it every inch. Then the hose was capped on one end and then we zip tied the hose to the fly bar haging above our city scene.

The city scene was a moving "wagon" that had a real working street lamp, bench and gutter that poured water on the actor when he stood under it and the rain was collected by the set and dumped into a tank on the back of the set.

It was my fav. show that i worked grips and flys for.

LOL, id give my right arm to have an ETC console.

Nah, thats a Lehigh Legacy Console. Its not bad for normal stage dimming but not good enough for what i need for footloose. For footloose I will be using a Flying Pig Systems Hog 500 console. With that I will be able to control the normal line up of multipar strip lights, Source 4's, and fresnels along with the two High End Systems Trackspots I will be renting.

We are also renting the Hog 500 becuase our Legacy Console is broken, the time faders and the grand master and cross faders are somehow crossed so it is doing wierd things, otherwise I would have just rented a Lightwave Trackspot controler insted of a full board.

Also, thats not me in the picture, lol, i took it. Thats Corry, the other lighting guy. I told him to sit there to make the photo more interesting. I know there is one of me somewhere (its hard to find ones of me because usually i am the one taking photos).

You sound like you know lighting boards... do you work them yourself?

Blizz, have you tried an ETC Express 250? ETC built it for high schools and colleges to use. It's software is based on the Expression IIX and 3 and is configured to run moving lights. It's a solid, inexpensive, and dependable console.

I dont know if you know of the company Starlite, but thats who i use to rent from. They suggested I go with the Hog 500 because it has the library of basic movements for High End Systems fixtures. I wanted an ETC Express 250, that was my first idea, but they steared me away from it.

Actually if I could have anyboard i would take the ETC Expression with Emphsis but they dont rent the whole system.

We actually cant afford a new board right now, I have tried to get grants and find sponsers but no one is willing to help us out. I am dying to buy an ETC console of anykind, but i only have about $300 to $500 to play with as far as the console goes.

The Hog is a good board for moving lites, but can be clunky for conventionals.
Have you looked on Ebay for used consoles? Also, www.usedlighting.com has stuff for sale. You could try to contact ETC at www.etcconect.com. They're good about working within your budget.
The Emphasis is a slick system, but has tough competition in the WholeHog III.

Yeah I check usedlighting.com like once a week and I saw an ETC board on e-bay once but it was still too much for us. I have also talked to ETC like you said, well their Northeast sales dept. atleast, maybe I will try their corp. offices. I am dying to get an ETC board by next year. I am even thinking of calling some b-way theaters to see if they have some stuff they are replacing that they would donate.

Yeah I saw the Hog III, nice set-up. I really like Emphasis though, i like how you can use WYSIWYG to create your design and then through ETCnet transfer all your data instantly to your console.

Oh what i'd do for a better console....

So do you work in the lighting field? Or just have an interest in it?

I won’t bore you with a list of shows I have seen – a shed load and ones I have been in – another shed load. I have been in everything from Snoopy The Musical, as Charlie Brown in a 100 seat venue to the lead role in Barnum at a 2000 seat theatre. Safe to say that I do enjoy them as an entertainment form

A touring production of Singing in the Rain visited The Bristol Hippodrome several years ago. Word has it that the director / star was an arrogant swine. The crew took their revenge by using the rain tank instead of the toilets. It was literally ing down on his head during the show!
