Do you find it hard to try new things on the menus?

When I eat at a restaurant at home I like to try something new everytime, in WDW however i find it hard because Im am only there once or twice a year. Like in the California Grill I always get the pork tenderloin with polenta, and in Le Celie I always get the strip steak.

What about you guys?

I think so. If you can only go once a year you don't want to risk ordering something you may dislike, so you go with what worked before.

I'm fairly adventurous in trying different restaurants at WDW, but when I go back to a familiar place I tend to order familiar items.

I love to try new things, but when I have favorites at WDW restaurants, it is very tempting to stick with those favorites, simply because I get to have them so infrequently.

I find that I order the greatest variety of dishes at Le Cellier, oddly enough, because I feel like I can get a good steak almost any time at home. Last time, I had a mushroom ravioli dish at Le Cellier, and it was the best thing I've ever eaten. :slurp:

Come to think of it, I've had quite a few "that was the best thing I've ever eaten" experiences at Le Cellier...and I don't think any of them have been steak!!

My 3 favorite restaurants I always get the same thing, year after year. LeCellier = NY strip, Narcoossee's = surf & turf (twice on 1 trip last year), Yachtsman = Porterhouse. Chefs de France and the Wave I tend to mix it up.

My sister was making fun of me a few days ago when we were discussing whether to eat at the Rainforest Cafe. We've been debating because it's kind of a last minute decision to travel and we're on a budget and that's not part of the free dining BUT it's my neice's birthday trip and we think she'd really like it.

As soon as she mentioned it I said, "I'm getting the planet earth pasta!" She said, "we haven't even decided if we're going!"

But I tell you...if we go I am getting the Planet Earth Pasta!!! :slurp::slurp::slurp:

I tend to mix it up

Whatever strikes my fancy at the moment.

Lately I have been on a bit of a steak frite kick. If I see an Onglet on the menu, I tend to order it. But thats a particular item, not a dish at a single restaruant.

Yes, I always think I'm going to try something new, but the food is so much a part of the experience that I want what I know I love,
LTT- Pot Roast
Kona, Crab Cakes, Prime Rib, Chocolate Cake with the warm chocolate middle
50's fried Chicken
etc, etc

I do make it a point to try a new place on each trip so that I'm branching out a little.

No because I can very rarely remember what I had the last time.

This year I will take photos and notes, for a little something Im working on.

I love trying new things (as well as revisiting old favorites)
The bigger problem is in finding new things, with Disney continuing to dumb down it's menu's, they are looking more and more alike...:(

It seems the only place you can get anything adventurous is at the Signature restaurants. Paradisio 37 looks interesting at the opening! Waves looks to be worth a try.

I have favorites at many restaurants. I find it hard to venture from them to try something new. I'd be disappointed if I tried something other than a fave and it wasn't great. However, we try new restaurants on every trip so that forces me to try new things.

The only place I ever eat the same thing time after time is at Rainforest where I always order the Rasta Pasta :slurp:. Even on my trips to Disneyland Paris I've ordered the Rasta Pasta, just to see if it'sthe same (it's not; a lot more garlic in the french version, ironically)

As with all things I like to try new things, although the menus usually only have a few options that I can eat due to being a Pescatarian (Vegetarian that eats fish) so I rarely have a problem with what I order.

Mama Melrose is the only place I get the same thing now. But I did try other things there that I just didn't like as much. Elsewhere, it can be whatever I am in the mood for at the time.

We have just made our ADR for the California Grill and so of course had to look at the menu!! I am wishing that what I had last time (2007) wasn't on the menu but it is and I know I will be sooooooooo tempted to have it again because it was sooooooooo good last time and will be worried that if I choose something else it won't be as good and then I will be disappointed.:hammer:

I find it harder and hard to justify trying something new unless it's on a buffet. The prices for most entrees are too high to be trying something that I might not like.

In these days of belt-tightening, I'm not sure if they would still do it, but I've experienced WDW waitstaff noticing that I wasn't really enjoying all or even just some portion of my meal and offering to replace it with something I would like.

I remember one specific example, at Le Cellier when I ordered their Signature Dish--the Mushroom Filet, with mushroom risotto. Now, I love mushrooms, and I like rice, but I did not like that risotto, so I just left it and concentrated on the meat and veg. The waiter noticed that I wasn't eating the risotto and offered to bring me some mashed potatoes or something. I turned him down because I was pretty full already, but since then I've never been afraid to try something new and always encourage my picky eater husband to request substitutions, if it gets him to try a new dish (don't like sweet potatoes with the duck in France, ask for mashed--at least he gets to try the duck, and he liked it!!)

I saw it in November just passed at an adjacent table. The person in question got a different meal. They still werent happy, to be honest if it had been me Id have just twatted them the drama they made, it was just a little performance to try and impress.

Also my youngest had been poorly when we went to the calli Grill and didnt really eat her meal, they asked her if she wanted something different. She didnt take it as it wasnt the food she was just off colour, but it was a nice touch.

Always finiding it hard to try new things. If we do try a new menu item, one of us gets a regular item we know is good. This way if one is not so good, we both still enjoy the meal. If you really do not care for the taste and its really bad, just tell the CM. We had this happen at Le Cellier and they gladly replaced it with something else. :)
It never hurts to try new things ever now and then. You will never know what it taste like unless you try it. if price is the factor, order it at lunch when it is cheaper.

:slurp: many times we order the same thing at dinner at Disney, but I figure we're only usually there once a year and we can't get tired of it! on ocassion we do try new things, sometimes we like them and sometimes we don't
