If I get lazy, I fall into a southern accent. I had friends from Tennesee and West Virginia that I worked with in Florida, and whenever Cal would call, he would know I was working with one of them.....or Megan would answer the phone, and he knew I had my accent full on...LOL!
Working in Radio, and being a DJ/ Announcer for years in clubs, and at Boardwalk and Baseball, I can overcome the accent...but I do have to work at it, its more my "announcer" voice.... I bet Jer understands!
You know what I found funny??? In the movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, ________ Van has no english accent, while everyone else does....

As stated above, I have an upstate NY accent. I knew a guy who once told me I must have lived up here too long b/c I had lost my city accent. I was in a store in Florida once and had to ask the guy stocking shelves where something was and he said "You aren't from here are you? I cant really understand your accent, your going to have to talk slower." We were at a pool where my grandparents live in Florida, and the one lady told me "I just love your accent" after she left I had to ask my mom "I have an accent?"

Any pointers for my mastering the accent for my stage role?

Listen to Jeff Foxworthy. He'll teach ya all ya need to know. lol As for my suggestions go, just draw your words out, add "w's" in words like "Dog - dawg" Oh, and don't forget to combine words (that's where Jeff Foxworthy comes in). Say y'all alot and use phrases like "What all are y'all going to go do?" (That phrase gets Brian/Freak each time I use it  )

I'm originally from Lima, Ohio. (Lie-muh) lol. I think the weird accent actually got picked up in Toledo the year we lived there. It's so odd... what should be a short "a" comes out "ay". *shrugs* It's very prominent at Cedar Point, that's the first time I remember hearing it. Why do these dumb things stick in my head? LOL!

I don't think I have an accent other than "American". But my friends have told me I have what they describe as "F'd up accent" meaning they can't place it. They told me my wife's accent is southern though -- and I would agree.

If anything it is a blurred accent from growing up in Hawaii, living in the south around New Orleans (where the accent is weird anyway) and travelling around so much.

Barnum...if you want to hear some strong Boston accents...

rent "Good Will Hunting" (Matt Damon and Ben are both from Southie...and...yeah...very strong)

As for Boston accents though...I live in Boston and haven't heard it myself :lookaroun

Now, on the other hand...everyone else that doesn't live in Boston has a weird accent...they use the letter "R" when they talk!

"Wikkit"? The Wicket is the wooden assemblage a batsman defends in cricket. Why would a Bostonian talk about that? I’ve never met one who knows anything about the sport!

Although we live in upstate New York now, my husband and I are both originally from the general New York city area (Long Island for me, Rockland county for him). Visiting my parents on Long Island is a riot for me - no one can understand me at all until I pick that Long Island accent back up - and it only takes about 20 minutes!

My wife picks up her family's Mississippi accent when she visits or talks to them on the phone... and the weird thing is she's never even lived there!

I always tease her about that ;)
