Do the forums ever ruin your Disney experience

You mean besides your condescending comments and derisive tone?

Nope, other then that you said nothing insulting.

I wasn't derisive or condescending I was plain honest OK? There was no irony or sarcasm in my comment and definitely nothing that would excuse your openly rude, annoying attitude and behaviour.

But let me correct my own comment

"Thanks to the internet and sites like WDWmagic, I know everything that is going on there and can stay in touch with wonderful people (and obviously also some far less wonderful but perhaps inescapable ones) that share my love for the magic of the World."

I can see what you are saying. Take Splash Mountain for example. Would a once every 2 years, type traveler really notice all those broken effects. Probably not. So I can see the ignorance is bliss argument.

I however, want these problems being noticed and called out. If we continue to let Disney slide on these kind of things, because we would rather just close our eyes and enjoy the ride, then we will continue down a slope to mediocrity. And is mediocrity really where we want to be?

Why not, it would be quite fitting to the intellectual level of a lot of guests.
QED.

It it wasn't for WDWmagic I would still be walking past Aloha Isle on every trip. Because of this one reason, I am forever indebted to the likes of MasterYoda and Foreverbelle!

I am one of those every-two-year kind of visitors, and a relatively recent Disney nerd, so I truly enjoy reading the various posts and living vicariously through others' experiences that are posted on the site. I've realized that the learning curve is steep if you want to truly participate in an intelligent discussion. There will always be a contingent of cup-half-empty (no more hyphenations, I promise!) participants in any endeavor; you just have to take the bad with the good. I think it's also important to realize that at least some of the time, those detractors make valid points and can provide constructive criticism. Nothing wrong with wanting to improve things.

I've learned a ton from these forums as well, a lot about the little things which are definitely a plus when you see something you never noticed before and read about for the first time on here. What makes it even more special is that I get so caught up in actually being down there when I go that I most of the time forget about what I read until I see something or run into something and think, "oh cool, that's what so and so mentioned in a post."

I also get a kick out of certain things down there that are so heavily criticized, I can't help but laugh when I do see what people are complaining about. Everyone has their own opinions about things but some just really make me laugh when I finally see what it is that bothers them so much.

I try to forget about the internet when I'm in the parks.

I myself am quite critical over some of Disney;s decisions in recent years. However, I will only let that interfere with my decision to either go or not to go. Then if I do go, I switch it all off and I will only see the magic.

On a more positive note, the internet has also opened up entirely new ways to stay connected with Disney at home. There's so much to read and watch and listen to.
You're cleverness knows no bounds.

Besides, your example is not relevant to anything myself or the OP said.
I think you may have misunderstood Spike. He was agreeing with you, elaborating on your thought that the internet has given the fanbase a direct voice.

The forums have made me start paying attention to small details at Disney, picture wise. Looking at the threads with other people's pictures is my favorite. I've learned about foods to try I never would have and small details I never would have looked for.

A lot of complaints on ther forums I have not encountered, thank goodness.

You are absolutely right. Perhaps some people here are just too distrustful and want to see malice even when there was only approval.

I used to think my passion for all things Disney (as a 52 year-old man-child) made me extremely odd. These forums make me realize that I'm not so odd. Now I need to convince my wife of this.

I think the only thing that might be negative, and this is for all forums not just this one, is that you read about someone getting super service, and the best room and the best table ..yadda yadda, and when you go on your trip get good service, an ok room and a table by the service door, well it makes you feel like your missing something.

But I should say that for the most part once on the trip, i take some advice but live what i am doing and have a great time. I read all the advice here but I am still pretty spontaneous

Nope!

On one hand, my wife and I will laugh at some of the things folks complain about here once we get to the parks and actually see it. Our favorite line is, "According to the boards we are supposed to hate this."

On the other, and much more important, the amount of information and insight we've gathered over the years has really helped us enjoy our vacation more.

Absolutely!!

I never let other people's opinions here affect how I look at each attraction or show. But as Monty said, I've learned more here in the 2 yrs I've been on the board than I could have learned after numerous trips.

The forems provide great insight into things I probably wouldn't know about. I love the tips regarding the attractions like scoring on Buzz and Toy Story, best places to sit for certain shows, pictures of meals from the restaurants, etc. I love getting my daily 'fix' and it gives me something more to look forward too on my next trip.

Only enhances my Disney experience, adds to my Disney knowledge, increases my desire to experience more things Disney. When I view obnoxious responses or people arguing, I hit the mouse and glide over them. There's too much enjoyment to find here that I don't need to waste my time on petty people who look to make trouble.

These boards are source of Entertainment for me, when people get into a 3 month long war over the Enchanted Tiki Room coming back its more entertaining than 4chan.

i think it's important to be mindful that each individual person, couple or family experience disney world in completely different ways. these boards are awesome for rumors, camaraderie and picking up a helpful tip along the way. i think you just have to remember to take everything with a grain of salt. ultimately, your trip is YOUR experience. you shouldn't let anything ruin that.
