I ask because I am thinking of grabbing one for EE at Animal Kingdom, but I heard it has some great themeing in the line...does getting the Fastpass mean missing all that great themeing?

Yes, you do miss a lot of the theming, especially in the newer rides it seems. However, sometimes it's a good thing to be able to get on the ride earlier. Or at least I think so. :)

You will miss quite a bit on Expedition Everest like all the backstory and artifacts from previous climbs, various pieces of local art related to the myth, the exterior gardens, signs, gear etc....

For your first ride on Everest you should certainly go with the standby line. Then for subsequent rides, deploy the fastpass if you wish. :)

You could technically take your time in the Fastpass queue and take it all in, and just let anyone coming go past you. Typically the Fastpass queue takes the same or similar path as the Standby queue at most Fastpass attractions, but you're just zipping past everything.

Unfortunately not on EE. As Steve says - Take the stand by line for your first ride and enjoy the theming, after that its up to you

Without question you will miss a good bit of the theeming in the fast pass line of E:E. The standby line of E:E is almost an attraction in itself.

I would have to say excluding the Fantasy Land standy lines, you should go through the regular que on every ride at least once. It will just enhance the story line that the attraction has.

We like to do the double dip. Get your FastPass, then return to the attraction early enough to wait in the regular queue, timing it so when you are finished, your FastPass is redeemable (often this means getting your pass and immediately entering the standby queue). Then you just FastPass back in for a second ride. Some queues are so incredibly rich with theming that new things will be enjoyed on each visit. This works really well with Toy Story Mania or any of the coasters.

This is exactly what my parents had me do! They said that I couldn't miss the themeing in the regular queue. Se we waited the 30min (park had just opened) and boy was it worth it.

Disney just does their queue RIGHT!

You do miss some of the quirks of a queue by utilizing fastpasses. Honestly though, it's not bothersome unless you enjoy the details and the 'little things' at WDW. Some people prefer the kamikaze style of hitting as many rides as possible or aren't interested in paying attention to the story telling that happens in many queues. It all depend on your WDW style if you'll think you've missed out on something by skipping the standby queue.

I found this out on my recent DL trip. I did fast pass for the Roger Rabbit ride. I decided to ride it again and just wait and was very happy i did becuase it had some cool theme to it.
