Do I Have a Virus?!

Everytime I get onto AOL, my computer goes extremely slow. I press "alt-ctrl-del" to find my CPU usage at 100%. I tried restarting numerous times with no avail. I tried "system restore" and it said it was "unable to restore my computer." Anyone know of a virus like this???? My McAfee Virus control didn't find any, but I figured it might be a new virus or something. Any sort of help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Could Be spyware slowing your system John, or just could be an .exe file that should not be running... or both...

Do you have ad-aware John?

That kills the spyware and extra crap running in the background caused by spyware.

I just ran spyware and adaware and restarted. It seems to have made it run a little faster, but my CPU usage is still at 100% when I'm on AOL. HA! Maybe it's AOL

Trend Micro has free scanning software that is very current with the latest viruses: Trend Micro HouseCall. You may want to give this a shot. I have Trend Micro's PCCillin product, and it seems to be pretty good.

I think I read something in one of my latest PC World magazines about how AOL didn't use it's own memory cache or something like that and instead used the computers.

I think there is a patch for it somewhere on AOL's site.

Ok... problem solved. I used the site that you gave me, Generation X, and it found a few viruses that were easily deleted (thank you!). Now when I start up my computer, though, I get an error response that says that windows can not find "System32.exe." :veryconfu

Ah... just looked it up....

Why do I receive an error on startup that says the system can't find system32.exe in my system32 folder?

A. More than likely, your machine was infected by the system32.exe virus, which your antivirus software removed without removing the startup entry in the registry.

I thought it was our outdated phone lines in Louisiana? AOL is extremely slow especially with this website; especially since the pictures on the bottom have been included. If I try to post or type before everything on the page is loaded; AOL locks up.
