You're right, it is a stretch. But since it was all under "Blue Sky" I didn't take any of it too seriously anyways.
It's just sad. Imagineering literally cant get ideas greenlit without a movie or brand attachment.

Instead they have to shoehorn things in "Theres an animal in Moana, lets make Moana land!"

Then you have the executives on stage talking about how they are trying to tell "great stories" by figuring out which story fits Animal Kingdom. It's insulting to the audience.

Where is everybody getting the idea that Moana fits in Animal Kingdom? It's not about animals. It's focused on humans and it's set in Polynesia. Just because there's a pig, a chicken, and a crab in it as supporting characters doesn't mean it fits in Animal Kingdom. It'd be like shoving a Mary Poppins ride in Animal Kingdom because there's a fox and penguins in it.

I would honestly rather have Moana shoved into the Tiki Room than in Animal Kingdom.

Don't worry. I'm sure they'll eventually turn THAT into a Zootopia land too.
Disney found a way to shoehorn Moana into EPCOT, so lol.

It was indeed a terrible parks panel.

But... those who psyched themselves up for big news and lots of details, we did try to warn you to lower expectations.

There's no law that says that at a fan convention Disney has to announce lots of new projects with timelines and details.

Just because they did that a few years ago at the height of capex investment after a long doldrums, doesn't mean they have to do it every time.

My grandma called me during the very end of the parks presentation today. So I just now realized that Josh ran off stage during the performance of the Wondrous song and never came back out in an effort not get boo’d. LOL.
He was out last, actually; waved to folks as they left the hall and then left the stage with Mickey.

Well I would say that Moana fits better into AK than she does into Epcot. I mean I get the whole aquarium angle you were going for, but Animal Kingdom has more to do with animals, nature preservation, etc., that are a better fit for a Moana theme.

Been a while since I've seen it but if I recall the theme of the movie was not about nature conservation or animals, was about a human's journey to restore a stolen jewel to its resting place.

All off camera so no evidence of the potential boo’s
This is likely what happened.

Not that I ever had any bit of confidence in this Tomorrowland re-do, but, as @GiveMeTheMusic stated, that they felt comfortable talking about all those Blue Sky projects for MK, but didn’t say anything about our Tomorrowland is both telling and concerning, especially when one considers how many times D’Amarro kept mentioning how fans may be “scared.” Giving a presentation to a room full of Disneyland fans regarding a project that could cause potentially big backlash is more than likely something they didn’t want, and were thus able to avoid by not saying anything at all. I’m wondering if they’re lacking confidence that we’ll approve of what they’ve cooked up…

I’m betting the Tomorrowland project will likely be announced on the DPB. No potential angry DL fans in person and no booing lol.

It just seems like such a stretch. Epcot has a full aquarium and is getting a Moana theme too.
Avatar is in DAK, anything is on the table for that park if it can even loosely be tied to nature. I do find it a bit odd that they might have Moana areas in both parks though.

There is a lot of symbolism and themes represented in the film, including having balance with nature and being mindful of our planets ecosystem. I mean the story is literally about Moana returning balance to the physical embodiment of nature, Te-Fiti.

If those aren't themes represented in AK then I don't know what is, its not just about the animals.

Moana at AK doesn’t really bother me. Not perfect but it’s not offensive. Zootopia however… a metropolis of anthropomorphic animals?

I mean Zootopia does have zoo right in the title so its got that going for it lol. But yeah other than animals and maybe talking about symbiotic ecosystems not sure what else you need.

Honestly you don't have to do much mental gymnastics if you look beyond the surface of both films to see why WDI would use them as a jumping off point.

yeah I could see Zootopia coming to AK even though it doesnt really fit the parks mission, most people will just think zootopia in the disney zoo park so it fits. Also, if the land is awesome, as it looks pretty impressive in China, Id be down with getting a zootopialand in US somewhere

We re all messed up in the head as Disney parks fans because they wrote they playbook, followed it for years as our love for the parks grew and now they’re throwing out the playbook

That's it exactly!

Which is why Tokyo Disneyland is such perfection. Disney wrote a bible on how to run a Disneyland circa 1982, and gave it with great seriousness to the Japanese (along with plenty of legal contracts). Being Japanese, the owners and managers of Tokyo Disneyland studied that bible earnestly and dutifully, and then performed the park operation exactly to the letter, elevating it to a true art form. Just like how the Japanese studied American automotive manufacturing circa 1960, but elevated it to a true art form so that every cheap 1975 Honda off the line was even better built than an expensive 1961 Lincoln Continental.

And the result at Tokyo Disneyland was typically Japanese, and utterly perfect. And it still is to this day. Which is why when you visit Tokyo Disneyland the entire park seems fresh and sparkling new as if it just opened a week ago, when much of it is 40 years old now. And every Tokyo CM you encounter looks like they stepped out of a circa 1965 Disneyland episode of Wonderful World of Color, when their counterparts in Anaheim are now tatted up with untucked shirts, black fingernails, and in desperate need of a haircut and a shave.

Disney wrote the book on how to run a Disneyland, then they've spent the last few years tearing up that book and lecturing us to forget that their book and those old standards ever existed.

Burbank Execs: "Lowered standards are better for you! You don't want old-fashioned CM's like this!"

That's weird. I care 0% about the shopping, but joined virtual queues around 7:45 both days when I was up and about. Without issue.
Did you get into the WDI pin store queue at 7:45am?! (If you got any extra WDI profiles, let me know. :D )

I tried for WDI pin store, DSSH and 3rd floor LE Marketplace and all three from 6am onward (I refreshed for 20 minutes straight) said no availability.

It’s honestly worse than anything I ever could have imagined. WOW
Other than the back pain I'm still dealing with from having that Tron cover thing slam down on me, I'm still glad I went for the one day.

Am I sad I didn't get into any panels or signings or get the giveaway I most wanted? Yes. But did it make me happy to see a display of Marvel costumes and a photo op from the Ms. Marvel AvengerCon set? Yeah. :) And I like the swag I did manage to get. And I got to see people like Bob Gurr and Leonard Maltin at the vendor booths.

But if your goal is panels and signings, etc., then you should ONLY consider going on a VIP ticket. Not the general admission day ticket I got.
