Eh, that's really not THAT rare when it comes to JC. It's an odd system.

No, that's not possible, as far as I've bee told.

Most likely a tire blew, and the boat somehow dislodged itself.

disneyland and disneyworld use different guide systems. While it's not easy for ours to dislodge, it's much easier in DL especially with torrential downpours causing high water...simply going too fast around a curve can and has dislodged the dl boats during high water

I was in DL the day this happened. The ride also broke down later in the day, just before dark, we were in line for it. Except that time there seemed to be a problem with a boat that wouldn't move just after the loading/unloading area.

Get the Mouse Tales books, there are several spots where it can derail if the boat is going too fast. Stuff like this has always happened, it was just covered up better. The difference is cell phones, the internet, etc. When the boy tragically died on MS in 2005, many on this board acted like no ride had ever caused problems like MS even though in the first year Space Mtn was open there were over 300 reported illnesses/injuries and one fatality (Realityland, page 137). You just never/rarely heard about it then.
