Disturbing changes to the Flame Tree barbeque

There have been some recent changes to the Flametree BBQ.

1. The corn is no longer available as either a side, or in any of the main items. It has been replaced with a GIANT corn bread thing.

2. The portions are getting smaller. As an example, the pulled chicken sandwich is both a smaller bread roll, and much less filling than previously.

3. The seasoned fries are no longer available, they are just plain regular fries, and the serving size is much smaller than previously.

4. The chicken sandwich is removed.

5. The option to add a side salad to an entree for $1.99 is gone.

6. The desserts have gone up in price by almost $1 each.

I'm putting this down to the dining plan. Unfortunately, someone is paying for all of this, and it looks like its us.

I don't mind the smaller sizes or removed menu items. I'm just glad that they kept the pulled pork.
This gives me an excuse to purchase a couple more of them.:sohappy:

Thanks Steve!

The cornbread thing sounds pretty good to me (I'm not a big fan of corn with BBQ. Southern thing maybe   ).

I'm going to miss the seasoned fries. :( How small will the sandwiches be? Around the size of store bought buns? The large sandwiches are worth the price more so than smaller ones. Maybe they will end up changing back. I hope so.

No, no, no! No more seasoned fries! Those seriously were the best fries on property. I'm disappointed by this; Flame tree has always been our pick for lunch at DAK.

Flame Tree was my favorite AK eatery also! I can't believe the food is shrinking and the prices on everything else is expanding!

That's sad about the fries. They were SO yummy!

But, to be honest, I'm not too upset about decreasing the portion size. Those sizes are so huge! DH and I can split one CS meal there... Then again... it is nice to use one less credit... HEY! Bring back the large postion sizes!

I'll miss the corn (not a fan of cornbread), but I can honestly say I've never had the fries. I've also never had a sandwich there, always opting for the 1/2 chicken. I'm glad it wasn't cut down to 1/4 chicken. Portions are huge there, so a little cutback may not be a bad thing, but it would nice to see a small cut in prices too. :lookaroun Ha ha.

It's been this way for quite a while. I believe I reported on it in May when I noticed they gave me a corn muffin instead of corn-on-the-cob. That's ok, the corn on the cob there was icky. Flame tree is great for the pulled pork and the onion rings... mmmmmm..........

hmmm... I'm pretty sure they still had the seasoned fries in May though...

Yep they are small, similar to store sizes. It looks very much lost when its on the plate. Especially when you just paid $7 for it! LOL

Yep I think the corn went in May, but the reduced sizes seems to be a more recent thing. This probably wont be news for regular local visitors, but I know some people who make annual trips look forward to specific things being on the menu, and might not know about it. :)

The bean counters probably realized there was a food spot on property where people actually felt they were getting their money's worth and promptly sprang into action.

This is a great but sad update. We do look forward to eating there during our annual trip....sometimes several times during a vacation.

I have mixed feelings. I could do without the corn. We always purchased (used as snack item) the seasoned fries so that was a lot of food. However it was fun watching the ducks try to eat the corn on the cob :lookaroun :p

but don't take away the seasoned fries

I am just glad they didn't touch the chicken. I wouldn't want to be the one breaking that news to the wife

That's horrible! Flame Tree is a favorite of our and as you said, it's not much of a value paying $7 for a tiny sandwich.

How true is that! That would seem to make sence. Its funny how the portions shrink and the price does not, go figure. Thats always been my biggest complaint about Disney the food for the most part is average and is VERY expensive.

It's rare I find someone to agree with me on BOTH points.

I fail to see how Disney food is comparitively very expensive. At busch gardens, a bacon cheeseburger (no fries, no drink) is 6.50. A drink is 2.79 and Fries are 2.79. That would be just over 12 dollars for a counter service meal. At casey's corner, a bacon cheeseburger AND fries is just over 7 dollars, and a drink just over 2. That's about 9 dollars. 3 dollars less than the area competition.

IMO, Disney presents a better value as far as food and beverage than other area theme parks. Is it as cheap as McDonalds or Burger King? nope. But I would expect to pay a premium at a theme park.

But there are great values to be found all across property. Here's my favorite:
Sunshine Seasons at Epcot. You can get a wonderfuly cooked salmon filet with an amazing kalamata olive pesto, some field greens and some garlic mashed potatoes, a drink and all comes to a little more than 10 dollars.

Meh. I awlays get the half-chicken, so unless they start serving half-pigeon instead, I should be OK. As for the corn -- I'll have to admit that I don't care so much for corn on the cob because I spend the rest of the day picking it out of my teeth.

I do hate to see the portions go down though -- but here's a though -- maybe they're trying to turn this into more of a counter service place (which it really is anyway). Ever since it opened, it's been pulling "table service" duty (which generally has bigger portions) since there wasn't really any other option in the park. With the upcoming changes...
