Disney's test of centralized FastPass distribution at Animal Kingdom

Who needs a fastpass for Dinosaur? I think people don't even know the ride exists with how it is tucked away in its completely boring show building. I never have a long wait on that ride. I guess it's good to have that out front though...people can waste their fastpass on that to free up some slots on the others.

No it needs it. I've seen many times over the summer where the wait for Dinosaur was at least 60 and sometimes 80 minutes. People know it's there, they just have to look for it.

Geez, going to Disney will be worse than going to the airport...hundreds of people staring at a giant board with times trying to figure out what is going on. Disney is already confusing enough for the average person. This is turning it too much into a planned day rather than exploration. People trying to make times and getting stressed. I am hot and cold on FP to begin with...this makes it worse. Even though it will be better and more efficient for those that know what is going on, I just think it takes away from what it should be like to experience Disney.

Agreed.

To those posters who don't see the downside of FP, FP does not make lines shorter. It does not create capacity out of thin air. In order for anyone to receive any benefit from FP, someone else has to wait in a longer stand-by line.

On the forums, most people love FP. That is because we fans know how to make the most of the system at the expense of all the casual tourists who don't understand why the stand-by lines are so long.

I'll just throw this out there and let the firestorm begin: Paid FP, if done correctly, is a great idea.

a update

Screamscape sources tell us that the new FastPass Central area at Animal Kingdom is likely to stay open until Mid August or so, and then may return sometime near the end of the year for the winter holiday crowds. I’ve also been told that it seems the “abuse” setting has been turned off on some of these specific machines, allowing you to get a Kilimanjaro Safari FastPass and then walk over to the Dinosaur machine here to get one for it as well without having to worry about the 1 hour window rule. This only applies to those two rides however as the Everest machines will still block you as normal

Surprising, but I can't imagine that being an oversight....althout it's hard to consider it a ride and show...like at MGM where you can get LMA then ToT immediately...or as soon as you can walk across the park...

I totally agree. I have always thought the same thing. Its funny how the amount of things we did before and after fastpass was started really hasnt changed. Of course the "fastpass is great!", "fastpass stinks!" debate will go on forever, just like the monorail expansion.

I do think the centralized fastpass is a good idea, it will make walking to get them a bit better.

The other thing about fastpass that detracts from Disney is the fact that you are skipping the line. At Disney, sometimes the lines are as interesting as the ride. Let me see...how much money was spent on Everest on the queue, just to have half the people skip the entire exhibit and walk straight on the coaster?? What is the point of dropping millions of dollars in making this grand, authentic queue in the first place if so many will never see it? You should see the queues at 2K Leagues and Journey to the Center of the Earth over in Tokyo...amazing. A complete shame to ever skip over all that beautiful detail.

FP is so annoying to me...I hate running all over the parks to 'take advantge' of it, because if you don't you will most certainly lose out overall. Then you finally get your line skip, are happy for that 1 ride, only to be annoyed in the next line watching all the FPers cruise by "skipping" you.

When we head down there next week, we plan to skip the FP so we can see the que lines. It is something that helps you experience the attraction instead of just riding it.

And I've said this before to others, but I love the FP system because it is free. While regular stand-by lines do suffer from it, everyone has a shot at a FP for free.

I love the idea of not just centralized fastpasses, but the ability to get fastpasses for any attraction no matter where you are in the park. It saves the backtracking. Right now though, what this will do is prevent people some people from checking out the actual wait times, and may actually drive the standby lines down in the morning as people that would have gone to the attraction to get a fastpass, only to see a short line would have foregone the fastpass in lieu of the standby line.

The debate will live on and maybe this isn't the appropriate thread for it? I think the beauty of FP isn't that you're necessarily able to check more attractions off your park map, but by using the virtual queue, you can have a more enjoyable time by eating, shopping, visiting a M&G, etc., instead of just waiting for a particular attraction. And I don't believe the stand-by line is longer. As someone else stated, the stand-byers are standing both the virtual queue (FP) and the stand-by line. If someone didn't have a FP, they'd be in the stand-by line at some point. The other beauty of FP is that it's available to everyone, not just those who dropped a few more dimes.

Think for yourselfer
I was there a couple weeks ago and got to experience these new central fastpass machines. There was no sign, and only one CM standing out in front shouting that it was a central fastpass machine for EE, DINO, SAFARI. We already had just gotten KALI fastpasses, but were curious to see if they were tied into the main fastpasses, so we stuck in our tix in the DINO one, low and behold it spit out fastpasses. So we tried EE, low and behold it spit out fastpasses. Now, maybe this was just a temporary issue and it is fixed, but if its spitting out fastpasses on top of fastpasses this could be very bad.

Multi FP's @ centralized machines

I just used the centralized FP machines @ AK. I was thinking about how the system would work & decided to see if I could get an FP for KS & Dino at the same time. To my surprise it worked! I didn't try to get one for E:E because I am touring solo today & can use the single rider line. What I don't know is if these particular rides allow you to get multi FP or is it because of the hasty nature that they installed the test. What do you guys think?
