Disney's Streaming Services: Disney+ (and Hulu, ESPN+, Star, & hotstar)

Disney says musicals are a big selling point for Disney+, but many they have the rights to are not on the service.

Their movie version of Evita*, the other Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals besides Sound of Music, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Doctor Dolittle, Star!, The Happiest Millionaire and others are absent. Lots to choose from if they ever get around to it. I see Hello, Dolly! is coming next week, though.

On a separate note, where are all the Fox Studio Classic titles like The Day the Earth Stood Still, All About Eve and so on. Are they going to be on Hulu, or just never put to streaming?

*can't be because Madonna wants streaming money, they got D*ck Tracy on Disney+

I'm assuming they're in distribution-deal-hell just like some of Disney's own movies that didn't hit D+ right away because of pre-existing deals. Just have to wait for them to expire. In the end the more adult ones will probably end up on Hulu.

This is an interesting change

I doubt this was abrupt. Mayer was expendable to Iger and Chapek the moment the international blueprint was laid out and the dealmaking was signaled to be over.

What's interesting is that he was hired by a company that serves a "one-and-done" industry and is also being investigated for possible espionage from the Chinese government.

As expected, Hulu get redesigned interface to unify it with D+ and ESPN+:

I still see Hulu and D+ merging at some point. I know people don't want to believe it because of the "Disney" brand or whatever, but its looking more and more like that is going to happen.
The Handmaid's Tale would be out the window on Hulu if Disney took over that is for darn sure.

Not sure what you mean "if Disney took over", Disney is in control of Hulu now. Also Disney has released plenty of adult content over the decades just under different names like Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, Miramax, and now Fox and Hulu.

They already effectively control Hulu and they haven't gotten rid of it. And they're not going to get rid of it because it's one of their signature shows. They've outright said they want it to run for 10 years. If it ends before that it'll be because the ratings drop or it becomes unfeasible for some other reason, not because it doesn't fit Disney's audience.

By owning multiple streaming services and only branding one of them with Disney's own name, they are telling audiences exactly where to go for family friendly content (i.e., not Hulu).
