The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild - Premiere
Happy for First Class (which is showing up now) so I can finally do an X-Men marathon of the four later films. (Looks like only X-Men and Last Stand are left from the others - I noticed a big content purge recently where like 20 things disappeared from my watchlist. I wish they were like other services where they stayed on the watchlist but were simply noted as unavailable. I have no idea what I missed now. And don't get me started on the quantity view limit on the watchlist!)

Also looking forward to finally seeing Eternals.

Oh, and Boba Fett, but for whatever reason, I'm just not that enthused for it. Maybe I will be more when it starts.

The Wolverine is on HBO/Max. It will eventually wind up on D+ or Hulu.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is in the PPV market on a bunch of sites to buy or rent. It will eventually wind up on D+ or Hulu.

Logan is on Hulu.

Logan is on Hulu.
Both Wolverine films were previously on my watchlist on Disney+ but were part of the recent purge of 20+ titles that disappeared from my list. :(

However, Logan (as noted above), Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are on Hulu, so that's something.

Yes
The "Oswald: The Lucky Rabbit" Disney+ series has been cancelled.
I can see Disney and Steven Spielberg to making a new Roger Rabbit live-action/animated series for Disney+.
Here is my prediction for this:
Disney/Amblin to annoucing new Roger Rabbit live-action/animated series for
Disney+ to replacing Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series for Disney+ who was cancelled by Disney

1640645418931.png

Yes, Roger Rabbit is back from years since last Roger Rabbit short "Trail Mix Up" which released in 1993,
Disney and Steven Spielberg (Back to the Future, Jaws, Jurassic Park, ET, and Ready Player One) was thrilled to team up to collab to making a new Roger Rabbit live-action/animated series based on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) for Disney+ in 2025 to replacing Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series for Disney+ who just cancelled by Disney. The series will taken place in five years since the first film take place in 1947,
as now we'll have Toontown's new police dectieve, Chuck Valiant who was Eddie Valiant's nephew played by Chris Evans (Captain America films and Lightyear (2022)) to teaming up with Maroon Cartoon star, Roger Rabbit to arresting the criminals in the streets of Hollywood and Toontown. Steven Spielberg was so thrilled that he was so happy to work project with Walt Disney Studios
to making live-action/animated hybrid series based on Who Framed Roger Rabbit as he said "I've so proud that Walt Disney Studios wants me to do project again to making another Roger Rabbit project since 1993, we don't have a series title for Roger Rabbit live-action/animated series for Disney+ yet, but we'll revealing it at the event in the future. Who Framed Roger Rabbit was released in 1988 and it was saving Walt Disney Company's money to making more Disney films starting the Little Mermaid (1989). The movie was having its crossover with non-Disney studios such as Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal Studios and MGM to make cartoon characters cameo as friends with Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny, and Donald Duck and Daffy Duck. I can't wait to do project with Disney again." This new Roger Rabbit live-action/animated series will having returning other our favorite characters from Who Framed Roger Rabbit such as Jessica Rabbit, Baby Herman, Benny the Cab,
the Toon Patrol weasels and many more as new characters appearing in the series. We'll announcing more information in the future so like Porky Pig says "T-T-T-T-That's all folks!"

Even if that happens, I doubt that series will be able to recapture the magic as the original movie. Richard Williams died a few years ago and Disney has already abandoned 2D/Hand-drawn animation. Just look at Kaptian Kristian's video on the attention to detail for the movie.

And the fact that Robert Zemeckis (director of the movie) is currently working on a live-action/animation series for HBO Max called "Tooned Out" starring Christopher Lloyd.

No offense to Richard and his great skills, but if they really wanted to Disney has plenty of well trained animators that could handle 2D animation in his place.

The question is do they really want to.....

So I'm probably late to the party but the amount of talent in the HSM:TM:TS cast is off the charts. These kids are incredible. The show itself is super cheesy teenage melodrama but I'm not ashamed to say that I've had a bunch of fun binging it the past couple of days.

The only 2D animators that's still at Disney that comes to mind is Eric Goldberg and maybe Bruce W. Smith.

Branching off from the conversation in the Turning Red thread, the business model of essentially making direct-to-streaming movies for $200 million each is not sustainable.

The business model for streaming is that of mostly mid-to-low tier budget content that can be released relatively quickly, and Disney is now a company that struggles to do that.

Disney's all-tentpole strategy for filmmaking has put themselves in a similar picture as theme park development. They are fundamentally incapable of doing anything quickly, on time or on a budget.

The January release slate for Disney+ is pretty weak, and it's a symptom of something that has been building within the company for over a decade now, ever since they killed Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures. They've gotten used to releasing only so many movies a year and now they have a platform that demands far more than that to sustain and grow subscribers. To make matters worse this is still the case even after spending however many billions on Fox and there is still infighting over whether they should make "adult" content.

Disney has put all their eggs into this one basket and seems to think they can spend their way out of this problem. As a consumer it's great to have cheap, convenient access to Disney stuff, but I worry about how long they can keep this going before they either significantly raise the cost of subscription or make significant cuts to the quantity or quality of their streaming product.

The flagrant spending is a loss-leader so as to be one of the three remaining big streamers after the streaming wars are over.

It was the strategy of Amazon and Facebook. Years and years of deficit spending to kill competitors and then monopolize the space for profit.

Right now, Netflix and then Disney are in the lead. They intend to stay that way with yearly multi-billion dollar budgets for content. Disney is in the enviable position of owning a lot of disparate studios to churn out content for their own use. The other streamers have few studio-feeders and are bidding against one another to buy up content from the independent studios (which will likely be bought out by those streamers eventually).

The two CEOs have made it clear that streaming is priority #1 for the corporation and have put shareholders on notice of huge deficit spending in that department to make their streamers one of the winners of the streaming wars.

In addition to content, Disney is still spending huge amounts on infrastructure to make their streamers truly global. They expect their streamers to start to turn a profit in 2024 (I think).
