Disney's Streaming Services: Disney+ (and Hulu, ESPN+, Star, & hotstar)

So a glorified clip show to pad the Disney+ lineup.

While COVID has certainly impacted their ability to produce content, they really ought to hold off on price increases until a few new pieces of substantial content have launched.

I feel more willing to accept the price hike, seeing as for an extra $3 a month in Canada we will now get some sort of version of Hulu integrated into Disney+ through Star. (We pay yearly, unsure what that will come to).

Probably why the US is only $1 a month extra.

I’m more than happy about the price rise in the UK when we are getting Star integrated too. Obviously they have axed any plans to launch Hulu internationally which is fine.

My slight concern is that where Star will have so much content from all the adult content, it becomes a bit of a messy dumping ground. It’s like maybe more collections within star so it splits things out by 20th Century Pictures, TV, Touchstone etc

The Star section will likely lead to a page that divides things the way the Disney+ main page does.

A Lizzie reboot with a more mature edge than the original would've been difficult to market for younger audiences, and Disney is obsessed with marketability.

I just don't understand how this happened. From what I can tell the show actually made it into production and then they shutdown after a month and a bit of filming like ? That means the scripts had to have seen some sort of approval by that point. Something tells me we are not being told the full story here.

The irony is that a more mature LM would be on the Star section of Disney+ for most of the world.

I can see how they wouldn't want to have two distinct shows about the same character under two different brands.

Disney likely wanted something like the Saved by the Bell reboot, which modernizes the franchise in many ways but isn't dramatically different in terms of tone and target demographics.

Wasnt the LM show cancelled in the early 2,000's for similar reasons, lol. "disagreements between Duff and Disney" is what I remember. Its like history repeats itself. Pretends to be shocked.

Executives likely had no idea the show was going a more adult direction until they actually showed up during filming, afterwhich they shuttered production immediately.

Not sure I buy that eh. Like I get that Hollywood is messed up and all like this probably does happen but how did it make it past the development stage especially at a studio like Disney? Someone had to have seen those scripts before filming began. And saw the content in them.

I can't forgive Disney for this. This could have been a smash for them. Those who love Lizzie are grown up now, so the show grows up. It would have been a Millennial hit. They even said at their own Investor Day, they have a HUGE number of childless adults on their platform.

Am I living in crazy town?
Disney doesn't believe in evolution. Otherwise Donald Duck would be TV-PG and dropping toilet words like he could've done back then if not for the Hays Office.

I mean, I get it for some things... but if you are going to bring back Lizzie, with the original cast who are all adults now... it doesn't even make sense to float around the idea of making it a kids show. Your audience for that show are now adults.

Make a new show geared to kids, give us what we want, the adult Lizzie.
