Here is the most updated version (new pictures are being uploaded rapidly; I know there are some still missing from this), and hopefully you'll be able to zoom in a bit.

I thought twice about jumping into this conversation, but here it goes. Let a 54 year old gay guy ramble for a moment. The Orlando massacre was a tragedy first, an attack on the gay community second and an act of terrorism lastly. You can say that it's not political but it is. Folks need to let the LGBT community have this moment while we try to process everything that has happened. Many of us in the community do react with anger because every single day we hear horrible negative things about us. Our community has been constantly scorned since the beginning of time. We have been burned, we have been tortured, we have been denied our rights. We lived through the AIDS crisis when most of the country, politicians, doctors and our own president turned their backs on us or ignored us. So please let us process this all. Yes the killer was a terrorist, because I believe anyone that kills another person is a terrorist. And I believe all radical religions are to blame for the hate against our community. Radical christians are just as bad as radical islamists. Hate is hate in any religion. And I do agree that either you are for or against equal rights, there is no middle ground. That's like saying its okay to be 50% racist. It's just not. It really is a no brainer. Either you want to treat someone the way you want to be treated or you don't. And I do want to say, how much I appreciate the support I see and feel. I personally didn't care what Disney as a company said, it meant more to see the CM's posting the pictures. It meant more to see hundreds lining up to give blood. It means more that in the small town where I love in NY, there will be a vigil tonight and so far 500+ folks have registered to attend. Maybe, just maybe, this is the time when we as a country can come together and say ENOUGH! Enough hate, enough killing, enough funerals. We have to do something soon. Do we really want to be the most violent country in the world? Is this the future we want for our children? As parents do you want to get that last text message from your child that says I love you and I'm going to die? So that's it, the old gay guy is done. I'm not going to argue with anyone because we have the scrappy young lgbt folks to do that. Again, give us this moment, we'll bounce back better than before. If you thought we were too gay before, just watch out. We get stronger and more fierce with every battle. Peace!

Thank you so much for this - you put more elegantly than I or anyone else has put it so far (despite many times trying to write something even close to this).

The old gay guy is going to jump back in briefly to discuss the shooter possibly being gay himself. I'm not an expert on psycho-analyzing, but it makes a lot of sense. It's called internalized homophobia. Having heard some of his past with domestic violence with a wife and things that he has said, it could be very well that he was trying to suppress his sexuality and that the negative force of the radical islam and it's hatred of gays won out and he was forced to fight and kill the very thing he was. If its true, it makes the whole thing even more tragic. Again, things need to change. We need to build up our lgbt brothers and sister.

Also want to extend my thanks for this. Your years of wisdom and experience summed up what I've been trying to say. Hopefully these people will finally understand why we're angry
The people who are giving their time, money, blood, sweat, tears, prayers, love? You want these people to understand? Or should they stay away, because they're straight, so they obviously can't relate to you.

All I can say is- I am sooooo glad that the majority in the LGBT community do not carry around the same type of hatred as you do. I don't know where you live, but try visiting SoFla or Key West some time. Guess what? Homosexuals and heterosexuals all have a blast together!! Crazy, right?

It doesn't change anything about the homophobia argument. It actually makes a lot of sense and makes it even more horrific, in my opinion. Its pretty common knowledge that a lot of gay men suffer from internal homophobia
Oh ok. Because earlier you were just basically saying that it had to be a heterosexual right wing male and only homosexuals could grieve the losses. Just wanted to see where you stood today. Seems to change.

You just need to watch the news about this guy.
Lets not forget that there was ANOTHER guy , who was NOT ISLAMIC, who was also a HOMOPHOBE, with an ARSENAL ready to do the same in the other side of the country and was caught by pure luck (someone claimed there was a "prowler" around and they found his weapon cache).

Just an FYI, that guy has also been reported as being in a gay relationship. And it was also reported that he did not state that he intended to cause harm at the parade. He was on probation in Indiana for threatening his former partner with a gun and threatening to commit harm to the former partner and his co-workers.

This really throws off the narrative, too.

I decided to catch up on this thread but things are starting to take an ugly and heated turn.

I'm going to stay out of this discussion for the next few days until Shanghai Disney and Frozen Ever After opens and the discussions can focus more on that. Until then, see you on the Shanghai/Frozen Forever After threads.

You would have to assume that people on a mission of "it's me against the world" would actually care about facts.

It's been proven over and over in this thread that some people just can't be bothered with factual information.

I am NOT discounting legitimate issues that people in the LGBT community have to face.

What I am discounting is the incessant need to remain inclusive and exclusive which is what so many here seem to want. All that does is create a larger divide. But that is their personal choice to want to live in that manner. Plenty of others are not.

Considering his sexuality wasn't revealed until today, I'm not sure how we are "ignoring facts"
Let's see,

"A Texas Lt Governor said..."
"People are ignoring this was a gay club.."
No mention of Latinos..

Oh there's plenty more. Just read thru again..
This is just a new fact that was presented, and discounted.

At the end of the day it boils down to this- our hearts break with this tragedy. Sadly though a few here are more concerned with social media, if Disney is providing the 'acceptable' response, proving that the world hates them, and absolutely ignoring the outpouring of love around the globe.

Well, considering that as details of the shooter surfaced, there was no mention of him having a long deep seated hatred of Latinos, that aspect wasn't relative to the discussion at that point.

That was known pretty early on. It's not new information.

Regarding the shooter being gay, you don't see how that is a factor in a homophobic attack? Being constantly told by your father and others in society that how you feel is not only wrong but evil and immoral?

I've not heard any mention of the shooter being prejudiced against Latinos or any other ethnicity. Do you have a source?
I'm not saying this in a snarky way, I'm actually very much wondering, because that was a big part of the story and why he chose that night-
Do you only get your "news" from Twitter?
