Disney's Hollywood Studios: What's Next

The Roger Rabbit Sequal has been in development for over a decade. It's no closer to happening now that it was in 1997 when it was in Active Development. It's not being made right now. I'm not saying it never will, but right now it has no steam. Don't expect it anytime soon. And don't expect it to fuel any of the upcoming rumored Hollywood Studios Projects. I would hesitate to believe that it will even have a place in the parks if it happens seeing as how Roger has been phased out over the years.

Is there even anything remotely planned at this point? I really don't want to read the past 30 pages to find out what the insiders are saying. And I know that I don't wan't to lose the Streets of America because then we would lose Osborne Lights.

Maybe Disney can start by giving us our Roger Rabbit silhouette back.

I was under the impression that Midway Mania was initially designed for DCA -- and was rather cloned for DHS (rather crudely IMO).

Add Soarin, RSR, and Mermaid to the mix and it starts to look like WDW gets DLR's sloppy seconds.

I think they were both announced at the same press conference, and built simultanously, with DHS version opening a few weeks before the DCA verson in spring of 2008.

To summarize...Apparently no solid plans....nothing greenlit...just TDO talking about how they need to do something. So no real indication of what it will be, when it will be, or if it is even worth getting excited about.

Thanks. That's what I thought. Thanks for clearing it up.

What's interesting to me is how the whole "Disney lost the rights to the Chinese theater" meme continues to spread.

Isn't that bunk?

I thought it was just urban legend that the ugly moonbonce sorcerer's hat was left up because TDO was too cheap to tear it down. Not because it's needed to hide the Chinese Theater because "Disney lost the rights to that". There's no way that Disney would have built the Chinese Theater as the center of the park on Sunset Boulevard if they could "lose the rights to it" a decade or so after the park opened. Makes no sense.

I don't think you even have to buy the rights to a building to use its image. Did the New York New York Hotel and Casino in Vegas need to buy rights to all the buildings they recreated there? What about miniature golf courses around the world with their mini-versions of landmarks?

The Chinese Theater is a famous landmark so I don't think there are any "rights" it holds that prevent Disney from having an unobstructed view of it in the park.

I have never wanted to see anything disappear as badly as I want the moon bounce hat to vanish since I had a big fat zit on my chin I wanted to disappear before the prom when I was 17.

I just hate that thing.

There will be no Roger Rabbit sequel.

I think Wreck it Ralph is as close to a "spirit" of another Roger Rabbit as we will ever see in the sense that Wreck It Ralph does to video games what Roger Rabbit did for cartoon characters.

I can see a Wreck it Ralph attraction if the movie is popular...maybe even combined with a Finn's Arcade for a Tron Ride next door.

I think the statement the Chinese Theatre is going away is completely false.

I hope the part about the moon bounce hat going away are true though.

I actually like the hat as a structure, just not there at all. I know it's a 'fake' icon created for marketing since the other 3 parks had a legit one, but just move it. It doesn't need a big 'reveal' like Cinderella's Castle or the Tree of Life, and isn't spectacular like Spaceship Earth, so just stick it somewhere. I think out front, where the Christmas tree (I mean, holiday tree) goes. :)

Although everyone here is chanting in angry mob "remove the giant hat!", I actually like the hat. I don't think that it is correctly placed, but I still like it. (that's probably because I am a Fantasia fan, but anyway) I think that the hat should not be removed, but transplanted. Possibly somewhere else in the park? Idk, but I like that hat, and it IS the biggest representation of the icon in any Disney area.... but Disney made the wrong choice of placing it in front of the Chinese Theatre....

I also don't mind the hat. I do agree that it is misplaced. If asked, I would suggest moving it to the section where they show you how they make animation. I would love to see that area expanded. I know it is not very exciting, but I found it to be very interesting. I loved the old Disney Animation movies and would love to see more of the classic characters honored. Perhaps the hat could become a great little water play area with the Fantasia theming.
