Oooh a man standing in a field throwing a ball. Why not just watching it on TV?

Everyone likes different things. Some will spend $80 (as the other $17 is the film ticket) for a party. Some people go to ComiCon and pay $200 to get an autograph. Everyone values different things.

Yes, and some foolish people will pay $90+ for a movie and dance party because Disney. I get it, whatever makes you happy.

i get what you re saying and dont care how you spend your money but a sporting event is much different live than on TV where as a movie on Dec 17th is the same as Dec 20th..its still a fictional movie/event

the sports analogy to me is bad but if you re a star wars fan and want to fork out 100.00 have blast

people spending that kind of money should never rip disney for what they charge though (not saying you do) but i can certainly guarantee you there are people on this board who blast disney for charging so much for an AP but will go to this event

The extra value that you get from being live at the game (when you could easily watch the same exact game at home with a much better view, the benefit of replay, cheaper food, etc.) is actually pretty similar to the value that a Star Wars fanatic feels by going to a themed party with other crazy Star Wars fans to get excited and watch the movie together.

These things come along far less often than your favorite sports team playing a home game. It's like their favorite team playing in the Super Bowl after years of suffering.

Maybe buying Force Awakens opening night tickets is a good idea. Someone already listed a set on eBay for $10,000. Though I don't believe they are for AMC DTD.

i think we can all say if you spend 10 000 for movie tickets for something you can see a day later for 12 has some serious issues

I'll take the $17 ticket. You have to be a special kind of foolish to spend $90 on this.

what baffles me is.. that there are reports of people overbuying movie theatre tickets with the purpose of reselling for 100$ or higher in ebay.
What the hell?

They've annouced exactly what they are doing, there will be a DJ, launch bay will be open, Star Tours open and meet & greet characters.

Lots of theme parks do after-hours events and charge extra. Universal have a Harry Potter celebration each January.

If you don't want to go to the private party, don't go. Visit the launch bay a few dyas later with normal admission. But for those who do want to see the film and go to a party, don't call them foolish.
except.. you know.. they have more attractions than just "star tours" like (aka one) at Harry Potter

Disney is genius for buying Star Wars because aside from the fact that the property itself is a money pit, they potentially have decades and DECADES of milking this to its full potential. I don't know many fan bases that spend as much as Star Wars fans. All the merch, all the action figures...kids don't buy that crap. Adults do. They literally release a Stormtrooper with the same mold and 10 different paint schemes and the collectors gobble them up. Harry Potter, LoTR, etc are all beloved and sell on their own, but I would bet that even with the crossover of fans no one comes close to Lucas' cash cow creation.

I am ridiculously jealous of your ridiculous self.;)

Sorry.... I just had to do this event. I also completely understand the sentiment of not wanting to pay that kind of a price for what they are offering. For me, I have had to miss some events I would have much rather gone to (Star Wars Celebration, D23 Expo, SDCC) so I took the opportunity to try to get tix to this. I really didn't think I would even get a chance to get them either as that is usually my luck, but this time it worked out so I decided to go for it. I am looking forward to seeing what they have in store for the fireworks mostly, but am interested in the rest as well.

One last thing....
Can we just let each other enjoy this moment in film history and keep your opinions on whether people should be spending the money on this to themselves. You can have your opinions of course, doesn't mean you have to share every single one of them with the world especially when you bring other people down by doing so.

Had I not had a kid in high school and a Disney cruise to pay off by the end of the year, I would have been there in a hot minute.

I thought the saying was "All magic comes at a price" -- Disney's Once Upon a Time
Seems to be Disney's modus operandi with park passes, so why not with other events too? I wonder, does Iger have crocodile skin?
Yes. The saying is mainly said by Rumpelstiltskin skin (The dark one), also known as, Bob Iger.
