Disney's Hollywood Studios Name Change

What's not to love about a park named Larry!!!
Larry does lack in attraction count, however. More needs to be added to Larry. Granted, he does offer a few mega-hits such as ToT, GMR (yes, a classic in my book). But this does not excuse Larry for going cheap on so many other factors. Hopefully in the years to come, Larry will improve.

We're counting on you, Larry.

So they let slip that DHS is getting a name change ... that we knew was happening (see: Spirit of '74).

So to me this is like changing deck chairs on the Titanic - pointless and meaningless. Now if they could get some cleaners to scrub the damn deck.
Well the name change is obviously to accompany the overhaul we all know is coming. It's just how much are they actually investing in that that's the big question. Honestly the park needs a DCA sized budget overhaul, but I highly doubt it gets that. Probably 500m realistically.

It's not terrible. It is great Disney cannot use it in WDW. All we would get is a meet and greet, Captain America Mickey Mouse, a Marvel themed DVC stand and that's it. Its better in IOA with the best attraction in Orlando, Spiderman currently resides.

This discussion has been had thousands of times before. A search of the forums will get you your answer.

This thread is about the name change, not if WDW can use Marvel. Move on with this topic. Look it up. Let's just discuss possible names for the park.
Yep. If Disney used Marvel at WDW the way they use it at DL I would just as soon not have it there at all.

The only way 500m is realistic of any expansion of DHS is if it is 500m magic beans because $425million nets you only a NFL the way WDI costs stuff.

I certainly prefer Hollywoodland to Hollywood Adventure. Hollywoodland conjurs images of a glamorous age of storytelling. Adventure makes me think they are trying too hard...
I have no problem with Hollywood Adventure, I like the idea of Hollywoodland as a single land in the park but I don't think it necessarily fits as the name of the entire park.

It is bizarre to announce the name change before announcing any substantive changes. Wouldn't this have made more sense at the end of the presentation of new developments at DHS that we expect at D23? Why can't this company just announce things and get to work? Bob Iger has to keep giving us small carrots like this because it takes too damn long to get anything done. Didn't they announce Star Wars attractions two years ago almost and they haven't even moved dirt yet?

Disney did confirm that the name of the park will not be "Rogue One". I think given the original mission statement that Disney's (with the possessive) Hollywood Adventure makes the most sense of all the suggestions. For those that don't know the mission statement:

The World you have entered was created by The Walt Disney Company and is dedicated to Hollywood - not a place on the map, but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream and wonder and imagine, a place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic. We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was - and always will be.

I'm more inclined to visit a park named Alan:

Jim Hill had it first (below taken from my site):

September 26, 2014: On Episode 66 of the Unofficial Guide's Disney Dish Podcast with Jim Hill, Jim Hill presents the following information about the redo of Disney's Hollywood Studios:
  • Park will be renamed Disney's Hollywood Adventure
October 5, 2014: WDWMagic.com user marni1971 has reported that the investment into Hollywood Studios may be bigger than the investment into Disney California Adventure. Additionally, plans would include the Sorcerer's Hat as well as a name change.
October 28, 2014: WDWMagic.com user WDW1974 has reported that Star Wars, Cars, and Toy Story areas will be added to Disney's Hollywood Studios. He once again acknowledged the name change and mentioned that the budget would be close to the $1.2 billion spent at Disney California Adventure. The budget will be spent over the next 5 years and construction will begin after the holidays and accelerate after Easter. The only attractions guaranteed to remain in some capacity are Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Toy Story Midway Mania, Star Tours and Tower of Terror. He also indicated that there would be "a few" (likely two) major additions as well as minor additions and the park will be supplemented with entertainment (fireworks) during the construction. Lastly, he does not expect the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights to return in their current form in 2015.

I'm starting to think nobody actually read the article about this.

Iger literally 'let it slip'. A shareholder asked about it and he blurbed out a "yes" and then tried to take it back, and then admitted that yes, they were changing the name but it was too early to talk about it, and the name change was going to happen AFTER the major overhaul of the park, down the road.

Well they announced Avatar in 2011 wasn't it ..... rest my case.

Well yes it makes sense, in the same twisted screwed up logic of the modern Disney company - 'Hollywood Adventure' how unimaginative, how unlike the mission statement. Disney's Hollywoodland, at least that fits the retro part of the park. They should really move away from using the stupid dumb 'Adventure' moniker regarding the parks.

Spirit announced it before Jim Hill.

Now I understand why they are re-naming the park. After the Pixar/Toy Story project and STL is completed, DHS would be almost 2/3 new.

Hopefully this is the case. Now, if they we're to invest in major attractions like UNI, the future DHS would have a great foundation for success and a new beginning for the park
