No, they replaced the original 70MM film projectors with new digital projectors back in '08. You could tell because when the show came up from its '08 rehab on November 7th, 2008 they had a few glitches where the image would stall and then reset. It couldn't have done that with the old film projectors, and a film projector couldn't catch up and reset itself.

The new digital projectors dramatically improved the clarity and sharpness of the mist screen images. There were details and scenes that no one knew really existed from the blurrier film of the last 15 years. What they haven't done yet is entirely edit and clean up the original film images, and that's what is coming this summer. Thus far they've just used far more advanced projectors to display the original film clarity. Just like editing and cleaning up an old film for its DVD release, they will debut that process this summer using the new projectors they installed last year. This is also the same technology they are using for the World of Color show, so it's a preview of that if you will.

Here's a YouTube video of Fantasmic! after it returned from its last rehab showing the digital projector glitches that first night. It also has the newly redone Finale' with the upgraded lighting and revamped pyrotechnics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0vUsMzOnrY

thank you for clearing that up and for the additional info. I was there the first couple of nights after it came back from the refurb and got to see all the glitches.

also, i just read an article about this new summer promo (oc register I think?).. they're calling it Fantasmic HD - Huge Dragon :D

MONKEYS! They are my favorite. I want that job.

I just found this video from the media event this week where Steve Davison acts out the finale' for the new Magical fireworks spectacular.

For those unfamiliar with Davison, he is famous for doing these wild interpretations of the fireworks shows he designs. And this Magical show sounds fun! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61ZOrS-hyaI
Davison's video makes me smile. :D:lol: He's so funny.

EDIT: I know I wasn't so sure about Dumbo, but I just watched the Dumbo segment and got major goosebumps. I'll probably cry during that part.

Just to clarify for those that haven't watched the videos, the new Dumbo is actually a puppet being designed by Michael Curry (he co-designed the puppets for the Lion King on Broadway along with Julie Taymor). Not sure if by "puppet" they mean that somebody will be inside of it, or puppet as in somewhat of an AA so I guess we'll see in a few weeks!

Right, he is going to be a puppet :) I remember reading somewhere (micechat?) that it will in fact be an AA.

So it's both? Interesting.

right, i just realized that doesn't make much sense. I meant to say it's an AA based on what i've read so far :animwink:

my guess is it'll look like the traditional puppets he designs, but it will be an AA since it'll move on its own?

Looks very nice!:D

Dumbo is going to be interesting. Is he going to be a prop, or a projection?
Dumbo is being designed by legendary puppet and production designer Micheal Curry. Curry previously designed Tapestry of Nations, aspects of the original Fantasmic!, the New flotsom and Jetsom for F!, many of the puppets for the Salt Lake City Olympic Ceromonies, Parade of Dreams, and Co-Designed The Lion King for Broadway with Julie Taymore, just to name a few of his credits.

Also its been said that Magical will have a confetti in the finale, you can see the one of the confetti cannons on the parade light towers, theres some new lights too on the top rows, also these are not the ones used for "Celebrate! A Street Party" as they're built in to the floats-

Also the new spot lights have been testing as well as Dumbo no pics of Dumbo though :( but theres some spot light pics :)

Disney's Electrical Parade-
the Tinker Bell unit can be scene here-
http://mintcrocodile.blogspot.com/2009/05/new-float-spoiler.html

You can also see new Tinker Bell effect on the parade (mainly the Peter Pan unit) as well as the return of the Snow White unit and Pinocchio unit, as well as the new fireworks on the finale unit-

Heres hoping the new Tinker Bell opening float dosn't clash to much with the rest of the parade...

Tomorrowland Terrace-
If your a Suburban Legends fan looks like they'll be opening for Summer Nightastic!
