Yeah, I just really think they will find a way…they will never get another shot at this.

And the follow up because I just saw this... I think the abandoning of the third gate for an additional retail/shopping district is exactly the type of low-interest, controversial project Disney probably has in mind here when they want to avoid scrutiny.

I wonder what happens to that walking path from the Pixar Pals structure to DTD? On one hand they need to have a walking path to the parks but on the other it’s in a really interesting spot. I guess it can be worked around.
It'll remain I'm sure, its just a small footprint that they can take a couple feet away from any plans if needed.

Trying to think of what 1.9 billion can buy you.
In 2007, Disney announced a 1.1 billion dollar expansion, which is around 1.6 billion today. That got us Radiator Springs, Buena Vista Street, The Little Mermaid, World of Color and Paradise Gardens. Renovations to Orange Stinger, Mulholland Madness, Sun Wheel and games of the Boardwalk with some pathetic changes to Paradise Pier, Grizzly River Run and Hollywood Backlot.

So, maybe we get 2 E-Tickets, a D ticket and one or two C tickets when it’s all said and done.

I don't think Disney is going to blow this opportunity.

There will be a 3rd theme park in Anaheim is my take.
Not going to say it'll never happen, as maybe 30-40 years from now they'll do it. But a 3rd gate just doesn't seem likely anytime soon as others have pointed out.

But if they start building hotels and retail on Toy Story, and start expanding the existing Parks west across Disneyland Dr..... Yeah that may be the final nail on the 3rd gate....

Don't forget this little piece from 2015:

At a meeting that pushed into Wednesday’s wee morning hours, the Anaheim City Council narrowly approved a tax shield for Disneyland that effectively strips residents of their power to tax admission to the mega-resort for up to 45 years.
Council members extended the existing entertainment tax exemption, which has been in place since 1996, in exchange for promised investments to the Disneyland and California Adventure theme parks. Disneyland must complete a $1 billion expansion by 2024 to maintain a 30-year ban, and another half-billion dollar investment after that to extend the ban for 15 more years.
Did Disneyland really spend $1 billion dollars from 2015 until now?

If so, apparently $1 billion now barely gets you 1 E-Ticket, 2 C-tickets and a parking structure.

2015 to now has seen more than 1 e ticket and a couple c tickets. Also the parking structure is massive and probably cost 100+ million by itself

5th gate? Just build a new resort Bob.

Galaxy’s Edge alone filled that requirement if the rumors to it’s cost are true.

I wouldn't read too much into that "ban" as Anaheim has been debating adding a "ticket tax", which is another name for an entertainment tax, for years. It was brought up again as recently as 2022 to try to cover a budget shortfall, it ultimately didn't pass.

It’s how it’s integrated that interests me. How they have this path going right through/adjacent to the theme park. I guess you would just go under a bridge ( like the DTD bridge) and then have some sort of berm on your right side between the path and the theme park.

I see it no different than any of the other sidewalks around the resort next to the theme parks. They'll just account for that in where they put the berm border around any expansion, and under any expansion bridge like you said similar to the current DTD bridge.

It’s a little different in that there will be (the same) theme park to your left and right even if the distance and DL drive doesn’t necessarily make it feel that way. Anyway, I imagine the old DTD surface lot is one of the last areas that’s used as part of DL forward. After Avatar/ Eastern Gateway, Simba lot and the Toy Story lot.

In this case I expect it'll be exactly the same as the existing path that goes under the DTD bridge where you have DTD on either side of you, just in this case it'll be Disneyland.

The walking path from the parking structure doesn’t go under the DTD bridge. We would have to walk under the new bridge to get to the security gates/ DTD though.

I imagine that the walking path will feel like walking through a tunnel of trees after they expand.

does this plan close any of disneyland drive? Feels like you could get rid of the southern stretch and add quite a bit of land for expansion

What worries me is how Disney only builds one IP lands. They always include one-two rides, a restaurant and shop. World of Frozen isn't that great. It is just the retheme Epcot ride & 7DMT. Zootopia is just a smaller rethemed ROTR. I miss multiple IPs in one land. I worry that the ride to restaurant/shop ratio will be weighted against the rides.

I'm aware that the existing path from Pixar doesn't go under the DTD bridge, but the sidewalk on other side of the street does. That is what I meant when I said it'll likely be exactly the same as the existing path that goes under the DTD bridge for any new bridge for the expansion.

And I imagine the views will look pretty much the same as that path just maybe a bit more covering to block views, which is on the left in this picture -

Ah I see.

Further north up DL drive (adjacent to the old DTD surface lot) you have large trees that line the street to the left of the walking path. So between those and whatever berm they put up on the right side it could feel like a tunnel of trees.
