Rumor Disneyland Tomorrowland Future - What to do?

We all know that Disney will have to do something with Tomorrowland soon, what do you want to see?

  • Demo it and start over with a new theme.

  • Demo it and start over with same theme.

  • Demo everything but Space Mountain and keep same theme.

  • Demo everything but Space Mountain but retheme the land.

  • Remove only certain attractions but keep the same theme.

  • Remove only certain attractions but retheme the land.

  • Go retro and bring back '67 Tomorrowland.

  • Don't touch Tomorrowland at all, leave everything the way it is, its my favorite land!

I think we’ve just been so accustomed to seeing the current layout of the land salvaged throughout each reboot that we can’t see anything past that.
There are some interesting areas to build off of that would make interesting views we’ve never seen before. These can even maintain the rumored Tron entrance, while also significantly improving crowd flow at the same time. The way I see it, with no insight, is that everything will be demolished simply due to the restraints on what can be built because of the current layout.

We have the land’s core, Pixie Hollow, and the Sub/Autopia area as fair game to work with.

The removal of Autopia and the subs is disappointing, the Autopia in particular, if for no other reason than it's literally the one Tomorrowland attraction that has survived since day one. However, other parks (namely, Hong Kong and Tokyo) have removed their car rides, so the loss here is relatively eased by that knowledge (but it would still be disappointing to lose the only Tomorrowland ride from 1955).

The thing that really bothers me is the alleged removal of Buzz, which for a brief time was one of the few attractions in all six castle parks worldwide (that is, until Hong Kong replaced its version in 2017 with the Ant-Man ride). This and the subs are themed to Pixar movies, so, as I said, to remove both would mean no Pixar attractions at all in Disneyland, which would make it not only the only castle park, but also the only Disney park, period, without any Pixar attractions at all. My hope is that either Buzz remains or they retheme to be like the one in Shanghai.

That's what I meant by it not being not nearly as drastic.

Likely whatever daring and creative ideas that WDI have for this project, will either be shot down or be removed within the first decade of this NEW New Tomorrowland. Just take a look at the mess that WDW's New Tomorrowland within that same period of time.

So you wanna keep around a shooter attraction just because it’s Pixar when they could simply create a new attraction themed to a Pixar property.

Also just FYI Autopia is not even the original attraction anymore. It’s actually the 2000 version merged with the FL version.

Um, WDW already does have Indy, it’s just called Dinosaur.

By that token Epcot also has Pirates of the Caribbean, it’s just called Gran Fiesta Tour.

Dinosaur is a fine ride, but pals to Indy.

The potential monorail reroute has me worried. As a WDW vet part of what I love about DL is how interwoven things are. I remember waiting in line at Autotopia the first time and thinking how much transportation was visible from that spot - the cars, the subs, the train, the monorail, the peoplemover. On both my trips I was behind people trying to understand what the PM track was.

Tomorrowland needs work but cutting the subs and shortening the monorail isn’t the answer, since this is the strongest part of the land outside of Space Mountain. If they want to fix Tomorrowland, they need to start with the wasted space of the Carousel Theater, pizza restaurant, and movie theater, as well as the crammed layout and lack of kinetics in the approach to to the land.

Tron would be horribly out of scale and out of touch with what makes Disneyland so special. I don’t understand the obsession with cutting and pasting this darn attraction everywhere.

It is pretty popular. Unless I'm mistaken, it's a crowd-eater, too. I also don't see the value in removing a dark ride like this, at least not at Disneyland, unless they intend to do an updated version of the same thing (preferably, as I said, something like Shanghai's Buzz).

Maybe the Autopia as seen today did not exist back then, but my point is, the basic concept remained the same: you drive around in small cars.

As much as Disneyland’s Tomorrowland needs work, I HATE the idea of Tron going there too. Can’t Walt Disney World EVER get anything unique anymore? I mean seriously. Disneyland is already the best Disney park when it comes to attractions....and not only are they adding Galaxys Edge, but Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway...and supposedly Frozen....they definitely don’t need Tron too.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: they can have some of our nice attractions when they share Indiana Jones, And all their unique attractions with us here at WDW lol.

98% of Disneyland has been imitated around the world, Florida included.

If anyone should be complaining, it should be us.😉

Autopia is an original attraction. None of the originals are the exact same from when they first opened on July 17, 1955, however they’re still originals.

We it’s a matter of semantics and perspective.

Anyways it’s day has come and it’s time to retire it.

You’re not seeing the value now because this is all rumor at this point. Once the plans for the actual redo are public then you might say remove it all bring on the new land.

I don't know. I'm not sure how I feel about Disneyland likely becoming the only Disney park in existence without Pixar attractions. One of these rumors is that Buzz will get a retheme or that it will not get a retheme or a replacement.

Well you can't please everyone I guess. But I for one have no issue with Pixar's removal from Disneyland, if that happens. At this point again we don't know all the details yet its still just rumor. We may or may not hear something at D23, similar to when they announced Marvel at DCA with little details.

Besides like I said what if they create a brand new Pixar themed attraction for the new new Tomorrowland. Then it'll just be Buzz (and Nemo) was replaced by a new Pixar attraction.

There are many possibilities in this new future Tomorrowland, including but I hope not just a lame new paint job like WDW.

But they have the Buzz ride at all other parks. At least, for a brief time they did, until they closed the one in Hong Kong in 2017 to replace it with Ant-Man.

I would think they would want to keep the moving track of Buzz and not rip that out. My hope is that they do a copy of the Buzz ride from Shanghai, which is similar, if not necessarily identical, to other Buzz rides out there.

It could very well be brought up at D23, particularly since the Star Wars land will have already been open by then and the Marvel land will be pretty far along.

I'm not sure why you think they care about having Buzz in every park at this point. Especially since you already acknowledged they rethemed one of them to Ant-Man.

DCA already has a better version of Buzz in Midway Mania. And by all accounts will be getting a second shooter in Spider-Man for Marvel Phase 1 (which will hopefully be even more advanced). So really I don't think DLR needs 3 shooter attractions. So Buzz's time to shine has faded, in my opinion. Its time to move on...
