Reopening guidelines coming Friday, per Newsom today, for various businesses and operations. Does this mean theme parks? Maybe not. But just wanted to pass that along if someone wants to tune in.
In an interview Josh D’Amaro recently had with The Dow Report, he said“…we don’t have any California guidelines for opening. And as soon as a date and those guidelines are set, I can tell you we’re ready.”
Also, If you look at the California COVID government page of guidelines, amusement/ theme parks are not listed with any new guidelines (or at all), though a few different sectors—predominantly childcare and schools—received guideline updates yesterday to be discussed today or tomorrow by Newsom.
So just reiterating what we all already know, and that is that we are still waiting. It will be curious to see this Thursday if Disneyland does their weekly “push” of reservations. Because this next push will theoretically (based on pattern) cancel reservations between Sept 12 through 18. And that magic Sept 16 date that has been the earliest date for booking falls in that range. I wonder if they are looking at opening hotels without the parks? I can’t imagine there would be as much demand, especially at those prices and without a theme park. I know WDW opened their DVCs like a month early prior to opening, but at least in WDW there is a plethora of things to do outside of the parks on property AND they had a hard opening date.
Governor DeSantis and execs from Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld are wrapping up a press conference right now. All three companies said that they are seeing travelers from out of state. They said the majority is those driving though. The governor endorsed increasing capacity. Disney and SeaWorld talked about their animal care and how both companies worked together on many aspects there. All three also noted that they have plans in place for CA parks but are waiting on CA government.
Maybe he got distracted by his ex-wife going on national TV promoting the other party while dating Trump's son.
Depends on what you want to do, I think the character interactions look better than the normal ones (for me at least), no waiting for rides simply means the trip will be more ride heavy than entertainment heavy and there is still the atmosphere of the parks.Crowd levels are great. The rest however leaves a lot to be desired.
Well, the state did make it clear the guidelines that were just released are not the guidelines for businesses expected later this week, so who knows. In an interview Josh D’Amaro recently had with The Dow Report, he said“…we don’t have any California guidelines for opening. Actually, there is another option: Buy enough of Anaheim and get it to secede from California. This is an odd idea, but is actually technically possible, unlikely, but possible. They're never going to be able to reopen in this state. Disney has a few options:
- Convert DLR into condos
- Convert DLR into a manufacturing facility of masks and sanitizers
- Convert DLR into a Costco
- Move DLR to Texas
Stranger things have been floated out there...Actually, there is another option: Buy enough of Anaheim and get it to secede from California. This is an odd idea, but is actually technically possible, unlikely, but possible.
Well, we know it is a minimum of 7 days for DLR, because they have to give their CMs at least that much notice before having them come back. And to reaffirm that, from the WDW Board:
So as soon as the California Gov't finally gives the okay, I don't think it will take long to reopen.
For passholders (at least Platinum), it is only $30, at least that was what it said when I logged in, so we get a very healthy discount. But one of the reasons it is more expensive is they are doing some form of shows/animal interactions. And yes, I though the timing was interesting too, but there may be logistical reasons for that.Interesting that sea world san diego is doing their food event through September 27th. I wonder if it will be as successful as Knotts. It's way more expensive.
Well, maybe they should.......let's just say if you head over the political forums, there are things they could get behind to accomplish this....meanwhile, behind closed doors...
(State of) Jefferson has been proposing it for a long time for Northern CA:Stranger things have been floated out there...
I remember when there was once a proposal to split CA up into 6 individual states.
Side note:
You know I'm still waiting for the day when @Darkbeer1 writes a book about Disney and Anaheim politics. It'll be interesting to read, specifically the chapter that goes over this time period. I'd just be curious what fun stories he'd have on the backroom talks that are going on between Anaheim and Sacramento in relation to Disneyland reopening.
Book is better as he can't post all the juicy details here.I don’t need a full book, I’m happy for a few posts as well, @Darkbeer1
