Disneyland To Open Sept. 16th?

I was happy for the cast members when this was supposed to be a two week paid vacation, but I've really lost respect for them with all their kicking and screaming when the prospect of going back to work comes up. We've funded their 5 month vacation with our taxes while many of us haven't missed a day of work this whole time. I used to look at cast members and appreciate their efforts during my visits, but I don't think I'll look at them the same way in the future.

Honestly, most.of the cast members aren't the ones kicking and screaming, it is a combination of a vocal minority and the unions who never asked their members.

I think one thing I want people to remember is that CMs vary widely in age. I know that I personally tend to think of a CM as a 20 something year old college student working at DLR while attending Fullerton or another nearby college but there are a lot of other CMs who could be middle age or towards being "old." I have a CM friend who is anxious to go back, she is in her 20s and works backstage but I can imagine some of the older frontline CMs who deal with guests all day might still have concerns. In an ideal world I would say those older CMs who would be more severely impacted by the disease would be able to remain furloughed with their jobs secured but continue to collect unemployment but I know the reality is far more complex. All I hope for is that CMs who are comfortable are able to return to work and those who are still concerned don't get fired or lose unemployment and can't pay their bills. I personally am hopeful for either a September 16th open date or some date around that time, but I'm sure things can change, but there are multiple factors that make me thing this pushback is different from the standard ones and could hold some significance to the reopening date.

The first two phases allow them to remain on unemployment (assuming they haven't exhausted their benefits), the third doesn't, bit does allow for disabilities.

Why anyone would show up at a place with no shade during SoCal's worst heat wave in 20 years is beyond me.

This isn't even close to SoCal's worst heat wave in 20 years. It's hot, yes, but early July 2018 reached 117 degrees at DLR and mid June 2016 reached 114 degrees at DLR. We've had one day this year (last Tuesday) that reached 100.

I remember that 117 degree day in July 2018 clearly. I was at home and tried to fry an egg on the street. It didn’t work. I was very disappointed. Maybe Ill try it on a manhole cover next time.

I wasn't there on the 117 degree day but my last trip to DLR was in July 2018 and holy moly that's the hottest I've ever been in a Disney park. I went on IASW and took a power nap and then me and my friends went back to the hotel room to get new shirts, re apply deodorant, and take a nap and blasted the A/C to cool down a bit. It was a fun trip but man it was brutal.

35 Counties currently on the "Monitoring List"

The following 5 counties are now off the list and now begin their 14 day waiting period before moving forward

4 out of 5 of these counties are in NorCal with Orange being one of the 2 SoCal Counties along with San Diego to be off the list

The question is will this be a rehash of the guidance we saw back in May/June for reopening in person education in addition to bars, gyms, restaurants and salons (phase 3.1) or will this include entertainment like movie theaters, filming, and theme parks (phase 3.2) that much of the industry has been pushing for?

In some ways I could argue some of the phase 3.2 items are safer than 3.1 but I think much of the focus at least initially will be on getting K-6 education on a hybrid schedule on counties off the watch list first. Which will move some of these 3.2 items (including theme parks) to October at the earliest.

Note that, while this may apply to Disneyland’s closure, I take this to concern CMs who have remained on furlough despite park reopenings, due to lower capacity. That’s a considerable number of WDW cast members and will be a considerable number of DLR cast members once it reopens.

That’s definitely possible but if it was just for them why not just send it to WDW CMs? I’m sure there’s a filter for mass emails to CMs to exclude everyone outside of Florida. Having said that I’m sure that they are still pressing the governor for guidance and whatnot, seeing what the city of Anaheim twitter page has been saying if some schools opt in after the 2 week waiting period that’s been established and there’s no spikes after that I’m sure theme parks will be allowed to reopen at that point which would be right around the end of October beginning of November

Until I see the email myself I'm going to remain skeptical. To me it feels like California is revving up. Personally I think the hopes of getting a federal bailout have died and they want to salvage whatever economic activity they can.
