Fabulous!

I have a hunch when you get to Costa Rica, most people won't be wearing masks in San Jose. Embrace the local culture! Don't look like a dorky American tourist. Take the mask off, you're vaccinated! 😷
Actually, we were told that they do wear masks and take much better precaution than the spoiled American folks in the good ‘ol U-S-of A. And I’m not staying in San Jose. Masks will be required for all during training, which we’re all happy to comply with.

Fascinating. Here's some hard data you can provide your gracious hosts outside of San Jose...

Costa Rica = 33.7% Fully Vaccinated (population 5 Million)
USA = 51% Fully Vaccinated (population 330 Million)
California = 60% Fully Vaccinated (population 39 Million)

It's no wonder they're still wearing masks in Costa Rica. Only a third of that small country is vaccinated. :(

Cool.

While we’re talking about it, let me make sure I’ve packed my extra pretty, flowery mask.

Stop wearing a seatbelt. Like…never snap one in ever again. For the rest of your life.😉

No. That would be stupid. Tens of thousands of Americans die every year in car crashes. Besides, the dashboard beeps at me if I don't.

I'm fully vaccinated. Against everything: Covid. Shingles. Polio. Tetanus, Diptheria, Pertussis. Hepatitis A & B. Meningitis A, C, W & Y. 23 forms of Pneumonia. Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. (I had Chickenpox as a child, and aged out of the HPV vaccine many decades ago)

Vaccines work. Vaccines are effective. They do not need masks to prove they work on Instagram. Vaccines just... work. That's because of science.

Although, since you are going to a poor, Third World country where few are vaccinated, it's understandable why you would still wear a mask once you get there. To protect those who are unlucky enough to not be American. Or British. Or French. Or German.

But a vaccinated person wearing a mask at the WalMart in Fullerton or the Chipotle in Irvine? That's just anti-science.

The covid vaccines' efficacy is starting to sound more and more questionable. This is an actual quote from the director of the CDC a few days ago:

"Our vaccines are working exceptionally well," Walensky told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "They continue to work well for Delta, with regard to severe illness and death they prevent it. But what they can't do anymore is prevent transmission."

I'm still trying to understand the rational for requiring everyone to get it if it doesn't stop transmission. At this point, it's no longer protecting others when you get it. It's only marginally helping you if you get it.

Do you not understand that the damage to your house would be a lot different if I turned on a garden hose in your living room versus a fire hose?

I don't think that's a good comparison, but even if it is, what business is it to other people what happens in my house? They've already said that they can't stop the water from getting in other people's houses either way.

Again, how much water gets in makes a difference.

Wearing a mask when you have the vaccine is like wearing a seatbelt when the car is parked in a lot.

Much like a mask, it depends where your car is parked. Near no one else? Take the seatbelt off and you are going to likely be fine. On the side of the interstate where cars are zooming by as it rains? I would suggest you and your loved ones in the car remain seat belted until things clear up a bit.

I bought a nice, light mask neck strap on etsy
Any cord will work.

Although I think masks are pointless, I have to say after visiting Disneyland yesterday that the indoor only requirement is basically more annoying than when they were required at all times indoors and outdoors. My wife and I forgot several times to pass off our kids masks to each other when we'd take one or the other, and we'd get stuck at the entrance to an attraction without a mask, sometimes after waiting in the outdoor section of the queue. You end up constantly taking out and stowing away masks, touching them constantly, setting them down, getting food on them, getting sweat all over them, getting multiple dirty hands on them as we shuffle in our backpacks looking for them as we go into rides or other indoor areas. By the end of the day, the masks were disgusting, and yet we were required to slap those things right onto our noses and mouths. This feels like the most counterproductive policy yet.

It kind of seems like a lot of people are staying home if you look at the attendance the last few days.
And I'm sure the fact that passes come back on 8/25 and people are wanting those instead of day tickets has nothing to do with that right? What does attendance level even have to do with your original complaint about having to wear a mask during your last visit anyway? Now that you know there is a mask mandate, if you don't want to wear one, then stay home.

Here's some interesting news...

Our neighbor to the north, Oregon (East Coasters please don't try to pronounce that, you only embarass yourselves) has just brought back the statewide mask mandate. Oregon has no major theme parks. It has two small regional amusement parks: Enchanted Forest just south of Salem (a Grimm's Fairytale amusement park in the woods), and Oaks Park in Portland (an old 1910's Trolley Park with a handful of rides, picnic grounds, and a roller rink)

And yet, California has no statewide mask mandate. Governor Newsom won't touch it. Won't even mention it.

Oregon = 56.5% Fully Vaccinated
California = 53.7% Fully Vaccinated

#46 Oregon = 690 Covid Deaths Per 1 Million
#32 California = 1,641 Covid Deaths Per 1 Million
