Sorry. I will always fight against anti-vaxx garbage.

Being told your sons are autistic because you chose to vaccinate them hurts even if you know it isn't true. (I did my research and read all the studies when I was pregnant with my oldest.)
I completely understand, I'm on your side. Just trying to save you the grief.

I think this is a fair point and I don’t necessarily disagree. A lot of business act in ways I disagree and so I choose not to take my money there whenever I can. I think there is a big difference, however, between a school refusing to enroll students who are unvaccinated and a grocery store refusing to let in the unvaccinated, or alternatively treating them as second class citizens. What that difference is, though, I still haven’t pinpointed.

I mean I don't expect EVERY company to shut people out lol. And yeah, in reality, most will just ask people to wear a mask, etc as they are doing again. As for school, again, I'm not saying no vaccine, no education, but you should still be tested, force to wear masks, etc. And it was also meant to imply college students who are the biggest groups that frown upon a lot of these things since they think they are invincible.

The only point being made is you can't just continue on with life like its pre-2020. Either you get vaccinated or you have to make some concessions. And yes if companies decide you have to be vaccinated to work, then its your choice if you want to stay employed with them or not. Most jobs I had, I had to give a mandatory drug test and if you failed it, you didn't get the job. That's been going on for decades now and no one blinks. 'Freedom' doesn't mean there are no consequences. Oddly in America, there are plenty.

There is no debate to be had here, or discussion. It's simple, if you go to the park you must obey park rules which means for the time being you have to mask up indoors. small price to pay for the park to be open these days. You are going to do it or not go. Simple as that. This is not a conversation. It's park rules now. in the words of Willy Wonka

I think, ultimately, it just depends on the will of the people. Have people had enough? Are they willing to continue to live their lives like this? Or will they stand up and take action to defy the established powers that be by denying the government's authority, stop shopping at businesses that require masks, and build their own companies that counter the mandates? There is a demand to a return to normal, if there wasn't we wouldn't be discussing a lack of vaccinations, the question is that demand strong enough to get us there.

And that's the irony, if more people just got vaccinated, I doubt we would even be talking about this now. We WERE on the mend. But again, you have to make up your mind, if you want to REALLY return to normal, get vaccinated. If not, then yeah, this is how its going to be for a long long loooooong time. And again, people act like America lives in a vacuum or something when every country is still going through the same thing only most don't have the ability to vaccinate like we do. I'm guessing if most of them did, they would jump at the chance.

England like America was one of the first to get the vaccine. That country is now at 90% who took one shot and 70% who took both. You don't hear them whining about bizarre conspiracy theories or the government is turning tyrannical over it, they want to be free of this mess ASAP!

Hope it’s soon! Last I heard maybe September for the next age group below 12?

I think it will be in the next 4-6 weeks.
The sooner the better. He's autistic, so developmentally I'd say he's around 7 or 8yo, but he's been hanging in like a trooper. I was really surprised at how easy it was to get him to wear a mask...no issues at all.

Part of our problem is that the virus, masks, and vaccines are being used as political weapons.

A couple of weeks ago Pfizer said they hope to submit data to the FDA for approval in September or October (for 5-11 years). If they keep that timeline, then (because the FDA is slow) vaccines for that age group likely won't be available until October or November.

That's right when we'll probably be coming out of the upcoming wave. In other words, not soon enough.

The opening of schools this year, may very well look like the opening last year. Which is to say, there were a lot of non-openings.

Holy crap... This is actually getting to be hilarious.

So... do the vaccines not work? Is that what the real issue here is?

I got vaccinated. I encouraged others here to get vaccinated. I drove a friend who doesn't like to drive on the freeways down to Soka University to get her vaccination this past winter. I like vaccinations in general (Shingrix, Twinrix, Boostrix, Pneumovax, etc.) and am impressed with American medical technology and the effectiveness that it got vaccines out to hundreds of millions of Americans. Meanwhile, rich countries like Japan are still less than 20% vaccinated and are in emergency crisis mode.

But apparently the Covid vaccines don't actually work? And if you get vaccinated, you still need to wear an entirely unregulated cloth mask of unknown manufacture and effectiveness from WalMart or the swap meet or Ebay or Aunt Carol?

The federal and/or state government should just tell us if the vaccines don't work. Do they work, or don't they?

Because getting vaccinated and then wearing a mask for all eternity for the Delta, Lambda, Nu, Omicron, Sigma, Psi, Omega variants was never part of this deal.

If it turns out that the vaccine does not protect against the Delta variant (as some are theorizing), I'm very curious to know how people think we move forward without just returning to normalcy and accepting our fate. I don't think anybody can handle another year+ of this.
I think it is more than just a theory at this point.

Plenty of people can handle this. It is not ideal but we still have a country where we can go out to eat and go to theme parks. Things are rough economically and hardships are abound, but don't make it sound like we are in a fall out.

For now.

We are coming off of just recently reopening things after a very long period of closures.

This is fresh in everyones minds and the possibility for more closures is still very real, especially as the mask mandates that disappeared a month ago are now being slowly brought back.

Now more than ever the chances of closure are very real.

The vaccines still work. They provide excellent protection against severe illness, hospitalization, and death. The problem is that the ability of the vaccines to prevent infection took a big hit, as did their ability to prevent a vaccinated person from spreading Delta.

The Cape Cod Delta outbreak: 882 people infected; of those, 653 were vaccinated (74%); of those original 882, 7 are in the hospital (0.79%). These numbers are about the only thing we know for a fact about the outbreak - anything else is speculation.

This translates to Delta spreading WAY easier than Alpha - even among the vaccinated. Add to this that Delta spreads like chicken pox in the period before a person is symptomatic and causes more severe illness in the UNvaccinated, and I'd be scrambling to get my shots right now if I didn't already have them.

The best things we can all do is to encourage people to get vaccinated and wear a mask when in crowded public spaces or around people whose vaccination status you don't know. The rules have changed somewhat for those of us who had our shots, but it's an entirely different game for the unvaccinated...and not one I'd want to participate in.
