Disneyland Fantasmic Dragon Engulfed in Flames

I know it's a different effect, but the WDW dragon is back to shooting pyro from its mouth. I don't remember seeing it since the DL incident.
It's technically just a mini-fire breath. It used to actually shoot a physical fireball into the water to light up the moat. But this is the current B-mode due to a near miss back in December when the fireball pyro landed near some guests.

The dragon mouth as a whole was broken since around early-March (disabling the B-mode), but was recently fixed during its maintenance earlier this month. Just a coincidence of timing in which the DL incidient didn't really have any effect on.

Disney World still uses the head on stick dragon?

This is nothing but a cost savings move. The fire provided Disney with the perfect shield to deflect any criticism towards them for not running this very expensive and labor-intensive show. The show can, and has, ran without the Dragon and fire.

Sounds to me like they determined b-mode is not good enough, and they’d rather implement something better.

So instead of running the show during the peak demand period in the mean time? I don't buy it.

They wouldn't cancel the show for b-mode in the past... now they are going to cancel it ALL SUMMER because of it? Doesn't pass the sniff test.

They could run the show while they develop new concepts and then stop the show to do whatever build out and rehearsals were needed WHEN THEY WERE READY. But instead they chose to just NOPE out and keep it dark. Sounds like a punt to me...

To me it sounds like more damage occurred underneath the stage than originally thought and extensive repairs need to happen. Just because we don't see anything happening on stage doesn't mean everything is alright (or at least I hope everything is).

That, or they wanna give more time and budget to fix the side fountains.. ;)

I don’t know. I think they decided to likely run a night parade for the summer, while they work on something permanent for Fantasmic. :)

There was like a period in 2019 (or maybe 2018) when the show ran with just B-mode for like a month-ish. Whatever this issue was it (obviously) eventually got fixed, but it is doable like you said.

Interesting situation overall however.

I know the best thing is to have F! Back with either the 1992 or 2009 Dragon but....I don't understand why F! won't do a B Mode?????? It sounds like F! 2.0 has one and the Dragon Fiasco of 2009 had Mal. the person filling in the whole show every night until Murphy got Fixed.

Maybe F! can't run while a Dragon is getting installed????

This is Disappointing since it sounded like a F! B Mode was close..........

As for MSEP/PTN..........when was MSEP taken apart for offsite Storage(if that's rumor is true)????? in 2023? Or right after MSEP's 50th Run??

PTN Sounds more likely if it's still intact on onsite but If DL Park can't do PTN, how quickly can MSEP be put back together??(again, if that rumor us true)

The only thing that needs changing is removing the 50 from MSEP's Drum.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here.

They know exactly how popular Fantasmic is, and how much money they stand to lose by keeping it shuttered, and how the west side of the park will be affected at night. The fact that they built a Fantasmic storage area when they redid the area for GE points to them wanting to keep the show long term, and there's nothing that would have changed enough since then that would make them reconsider their stance. I truly believe they see Fantasmic as an essential part of the park experience. Given that, I don't think they'd make the decision willy nilly to just keep the show dark for cost savings during peak season.

Perhaps the damage is more extensive than it appears. Can any of us REALLY know how bad it has been? They've clearly been working on the area ever since the incident happened, and I don't believe they wouldn't start doing shows again tomorrow if they could do so.

The other possibility is that they want to implement some changes to the show, either for safety or content reasons, in which case the show is already down and this presents an opportunity for them to rework some things. Heck, maybe make lovers of the original Fantasmic happy by adjusting parts of it back to the OG show. While they could rework the content of the show while still performing in B-Mode, that's likely not true if there are safety-related adjustments. They'll want to get those taken care of before any shows resume.

Until there's clear irrefutable evidence that this is just cost savings, I'm going to assume that they're doing their due dilligence to get everything fixed up, potentially with improvements when the show reopens, and nothing more.
