The expectations that some fans have for Disneyland is grossly misaligned with the reality of how the place actually functions today, or even in the past. There's never ever been a Disneyland in Anaheim so incredibly perfect that it could stand up to the nit picking scrutiny from some of the posters here.

Wait, not everyone on these boards visits DLR often? I think I kind of assumed that most of us on here have APs. I visit about 1.5 times a month myself. I live about an hour away from the park but if I lived closer I would go way more often. Being able to get there early before the parks get crowded would be nice too. But I like my sleep.

On a positive note I think my distance from the park and the fact that I can't just go on a whim makes me appreciate it more.

EDIT: Not so much the distance because an hour drive isn't too bad but it's the traffic that keeps me away.

On another note, considering how crowded the parks are I'm seriously starting to wonder if the premium passes are worth the money. I feel like I would be better off with the So Cal Select, taking off work one Wedneday a month, save a lot of money and have a much better experience.
I live about 30 min east, had an AP for 12 years and have been probably 250+ times in my life. But no mas, a combination of less time, prices going up and up and up, crowds going up and up and up...but ultimately just a desire to spend our time doing different things. We'll go back, maybe once a year.

Simply stated - it was a special ostensibly to celebrate Disneyland, and the bulk of it was shot in a theater in Hollywood. I don't think anyone expected an in depth documentary (although ABC has done very nicely with those recently for Snow White and Captain America), but it would have been nice to place the musical performances IN THE PARK.

I knew it would be an informercial, I just wanted it to be an infomercial for DISNEYLAND and not every other marketing starved project in the company.

For a company that owns a TV network, they sure have forgotten how to synergize. It used to be in the DNA, not anymore. If they did Wonderful World of Disney on a semi-regular basis, maybe then they wouldn't have had to cram Zootopia, Pete's Dragon and all that other non-park related stuff into a park themed special.

I DVR'd the special but did not watch it yet...basically didn't watch it live due to the very negative comments I was seeing on Twitter. I'll give it a chance but it sounds pretty much like what I was expecting and not really interested in seeing, much about Disney but really not much about Disneyland. That's ok, as long as you adjust your expectations going in.

It needed a ton more Disneyland. As long as they were doing all these musical acts, why not a performance at the Golden Horseshoe? Why not perform The Sorcerer's Apprentice in the park with Mickey on the Fantasmic stage? Have Kurt Russell go in the Haunted Mansion and see the Hatbox Ghost! Have all these people I never heard of give better reasons why they love Disneyland than ''It's magical'' or ''It's the happiest place on Earth''. Don't have Whoopi Goldberg thank Walt Disney for Star Wars.

The 30th Annniversary Special Did this Perfectly....I posted the full version a several post back. But, here's an abridged version

The Imagineering Star Wars preview was just awful. Everyone knows I'm opposed to it being in Disneyland, but that doesn't mean I can't still appreciate a cool themed land and E ticket rides, even if they're misplaced. But the renderings and bizarre narration didn't excite me in the least. It was terrible.

Well yeah, I think many of us would have wanted that...a show 100% set in Disneyland showing and talking about the history with musical performances set in iconic places around the park. But once we saw fallout boy and knew that much of the show would be from performances at the Dolby theater, all of those expectations pretty much went out the window. My gut tells me I really won't enjoy it but I'll reserve final judgement for post viewing.

They should've dressed it up in gumdrops, lollipops, candy canes, candles, and pink & white frosting.

Interesting at that was the one thing that most of the social media posts I read actually liked. I thought it all looked reasonably good, the artwork was beautiful but the reality is, we don't know 100% that the land will end up looking like that. If it does, both the land and the dining options they showed, I'll be happy as it's incredibly immersive looking. The rides...hmm, not sure yet. The Falcon ride looks like it's simulator based (I won't be able to do...aka code V) but I can see the Stormtrooper ride being interesting if it's using the technology from Ratatouille. Call me optimistic, I know, crazy talk from a Disney Parks fan.

The Disney Applause app is not working. Kinda wanted to see it.

I tired the Applause app too several times.... and it would listen to the program.... but then disconnect for an unknown reason.

This morning I looked at the app again, and it had an explanation that they had network issues last night and if you recorded it on the DVR... then try it again.
IT oopsie on their part.

I was disappointed, but then I usually am.
Curious then, what are/were your expectations for SW land and I know you oppose it going into the park? I'm assuming you are a SW fan based on your nickname but I could be wrong.

I'm a pretty big SW nerd so while I'd prefer, like many, that SW land go in a 3rd gate, I also understand that a 3rd gate was not coming anytime soon and Disney has made the decision to move forward with the plan in place now. I decided I could either embrace it or stomp around like a spoiled child and rant how Disney is destroying the park for the next decade. The latter was going to change nothing. And you know that many of those that complain, the Micechat crew for example, will be the first ones in line at SW land and take advantage of all the "perks" that bloggers and websites get. Free Darth Vader cupcakes and a BB-8 sipper for everyone!

I thought Idina had a look on her face of "I have to sing this Let it Go again?!?!?"
Idina did have a fan base before Frozen and a well rounded resume from stage, song, and screen... but that song & movie has given her a superstar status and spurred her most successfully released single album, Holiday Wishes, critical acclaim for her Broadway performance of IF/Then, and she recently completed her first global concert tour in 2015. She was also honored with the Billboard award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year for 2014.

So as much as Let it Go rubs some parents, and adults the wrong way after hearing it replayed 100's of times... It became her 'Cash Cow' and a signature moment of her musical career.

If you aren't bothered by the yearly Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade specials being nothing but an advertisement then you won't be bothered. But, as Disney always seems to do, this was too.

It's Disney's song, not Idina's. She only gets a small percentage she performs it. The rest goes to Disney and the song writer (Robert Lopez). The movie is 2 1/2 years old now but Disney keeps pushing it because it was the only girly/royalty/merchandise item and they've had in a while and have yet to make another item to take it's place. But it is very overwhelming.

I gave up watching those years ago. As I've seen in many places, this show wasn't about the hardcore fans like you, me and the rest of the gang here. It's meant for the average joe and they attempt to appeal to the masses...which I think they still could have done if they set the actual live performances entirely in the park. But it is what it is.

You'd think they'd at least brought out Shakira for "Try Everything" for Zootopia but no....They just show the Skunk Butt Rug clip...Disney ladies and gentlemen!
